The building is an amalgam of old properties tastefully refurbished yet modern interms of ecofriendly electrical installation etc. Well motivated staff - great dining room and super breakfasts The upper rooms are warm as heat rises despite the central heating being turned off

Excellent service from all staff. Grand building, nice ambience. In the centre of Southwold. On booking, no mention was made of the nature of the room. It was perfectly adequate, but calling it ' lighthouse room' did not indicate that it was one of a few some distance away from the main hotel. We thought we had secured a room within the original building and the 'lighthouse' rooms are rather like being in a motel. Even with the discount, £140 for a 'motel' type room was, we thought, quite steep.

Our stay at The Swan was lovely, complete luxury, with the lift, the sittting room the stair's and corridors I felt like I'd been picked up and dropped in the middle of an Agatha Christie novel. Complimentary room upgrade as well !!! Amazing breakfast and able to relax pretty much from the moment of check-in. Would reccomend the hotel to friends/family and will be coming back again (hopefully very soon). Thankyou to all the staff who made our stay very enjoyable.

Our bed was very cosy. Location excellent. Poor menu in the bar which was very expensive food of average quality and minute quantities. Used local outlets after first night which provided much better quality. Tv in room poor reception. No fridge in room. Welcome pack in room looked like a school child had made it as a gcse project; it was dog-eared and of poor quality. Breakfast ok but toast underdone like warm bread rather than toast. Generally felt like a tired hotel in need of bright enthusiastic staff. Would give it a 2 star rating at best. Need wireless access for the internat as standard if it is to have a 4 star rating. Won't be using or recommending the hotel again. Charged for a morning paper!

Very friendly and helpful reception staff, an expensive stay; but worth every penny as everything was seemless and hassle free, with a comfortable room and sea view. A place to relax in, with warm and friendly surroundings.

Good central position in Southwold It was disappointing that we were put into chalet style accommodation a short walk from the main hotel - and we were caught in a shower and got soaked going across for a meal once. It was a very expensive hotel so I felt that the inconvenience was not reflected in the price

Its old fashioned atmosphere. The stairwell could do with redecorating, with a few pictures adorning the walls of that area. The bannister itself is lovely, but is lost in its drab setting.

Being able to relax in comfortable surroundings and have staff attending to our needs in an attentive and discrete manner. Having visited the Swan Hotel over the years I would say that this aspect of the staff services has noticeably improved. It was unfortunate that the manner of the person who cleaned the bedroom did not match the standards of her fellow staff This was apparent when we went down to breakfast but even more so when we requested an extension to stay in our room until 12 noon so that we could change for lunch. Unfortunately we were delayed by 15 minutes as my husband suffered an epileptic attack and when I thanked her for waiting for us to depart her response did make me feel uncomfortable. She was not rude - just negative.

V. Friendly attentive service. Food good if a little expensive. Ideal location for exploring Southwold. Lounge comfortable. Pleasant relaxing atmosphere. We had our first 2 nights sleep disturbed by noise from the room above at 11.30 - 12.30.

Traditional hotel with excellent location in town of southwold Given garden room away from main building. Required walk across wet and windy car park to dinning room. Garden room s a reminder of holiday camp chalets very poor slow service from restaurant staff. On arrival at 3.10 pm reuested afternoon tea ,staff advised serving would commence 3.15pm. At 3.45 pm still no service we left and took tea elsewhere. Evening service ,no better asked twice for menu. Pre booked for 7.30 meal ,no food on table till 8 .45 pm

“This hotel is perfectly placed to take advantage of the local area. The White Lion retains old fashioned values and it's staff are excellent. The recent renovation has kept the traditional feel of the hotel without being overbearing in it's decor. The restaurant is excellent and above all the friendly staff made our stay perfect. Will definately be back.” Iain, Leiston |

“I liked the combination of old-fashioned atmosphere with modern requirements. The food was excellent. I liked the decor, one example being the shell motif in the bathroom. Staff were courteous and unintrusive. Parking was easy. I would consider staying again.” Anne, Oxford |
