This 4-star hotel is in Southwold town centre, 200 metres from the sea. It has free parking, a bar offering local Adnams ales, and an à la carte restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes. Parts of the Swan Hotel date back to the 14th century. It mixes the traditional character of an English country house with modern comforts. The Swan's award-winning restaurant serves modern dishes and traditional favourites, made with fresh, local ingredients. The hotel's drawing room looks out over Southwold's market square and offers English cream teas. The traditional en suite rooms have a TV, hairdryer, and facilities for making tea and coffee. Some of the rooms look out over the garden and have their own patio area. The coast can be reached in 3 minutes’ walk, and there are numerous shops and restaurants available along the nearby High Street. Such a comfortable bed and duvet. A spacious clean hotel room. Although it was very windy outside as the wind rattled around the rooftops we (two ladies) were very cosy. The radiators quickly heated up the room. Perhaps a larger tv is needed. A bright bathroom with lovely french lemon smelling toiletries. Kettle and drinks and biscuits were very welcome and refilled promptly by our willing cleaner. The bottle of water was a nice touch. The paperwork promised a turn down service which we missed mainly because we anticipated a chocolate! Sunday lunch and breakfast in the main dining room were more than good. We ate in the bar for a more intimate early evening meal. The waiter even told me how I could make the celeriac at home. Lovely large soft white towels!!! Very clean quiet and pleasant. Getting around the car park was a challenge. Luckily we got the last parking pace there before Sunday lunch. Trying to get out the next morning we found our exit blocked by a delivery truck. Thedriver was very appologetic and heled us to reverse through the Adnams yard. After returning again we were lucky enough to get the last parking place. Dont know what we would have done if we wre any later.

Its old fashioned atmosphere. The stairwell could do with redecorating, with a few pictures adorning the walls of that area. The bannister itself is lovely, but is lost in its drab setting.

The Swan is located in the centre of Southwold which is ideal for our needs. It has a very comfortable air about it. The slow service in the dining room each evening we ate in.

Traditional hotel with excellent location in town of southwold Given garden room away from main building. Required walk across wet and windy car park to dinning room. Garden room s a reminder of holiday camp chalets very poor slow service from restaurant staff. On arrival at 3.10 pm reuested afternoon tea ,staff advised serving would commence 3.15pm. At 3.45 pm still no service we left and took tea elsewhere. Evening service ,no better asked twice for menu. Pre booked for 7.30 meal ,no food on table till 8 .45 pm

Excellent service from all staff. Grand building, nice ambience. In the centre of Southwold. On booking, no mention was made of the nature of the room. It was perfectly adequate, but calling it ' lighthouse room' did not indicate that it was one of a few some distance away from the main hotel. We thought we had secured a room within the original building and the 'lighthouse' rooms are rather like being in a motel. Even with the discount, £140 for a 'motel' type room was, we thought, quite steep.

Comfortable. It is good to escape from the standardization of modern hotel design in which every room is a minor variation on a standard plan. Poor quality of the 'English' breakfast, particularly the flavourless mushrooms and tomatoes.

Our stay at The Swan was lovely, complete luxury, with the lift, the sittting room the stair's and corridors I felt like I'd been picked up and dropped in the middle of an Agatha Christie novel. Complimentary room upgrade as well !!! Amazing breakfast and able to relax pretty much from the moment of check-in. Would reccomend the hotel to friends/family and will be coming back again (hopefully very soon). Thankyou to all the staff who made our stay very enjoyable.

Our bed was very cosy. Location excellent. Poor menu in the bar which was very expensive food of average quality and minute quantities. Used local outlets after first night which provided much better quality. Tv in room poor reception. No fridge in room. Welcome pack in room looked like a school child had made it as a gcse project; it was dog-eared and of poor quality. Breakfast ok but toast underdone like warm bread rather than toast. Generally felt like a tired hotel in need of bright enthusiastic staff. Would give it a 2 star rating at best. Need wireless access for the internat as standard if it is to have a 4 star rating. Won't be using or recommending the hotel again. Charged for a morning paper!

Very friendly and helpful reception staff, an expensive stay; but worth every penny as everything was seemless and hassle free, with a comfortable room and sea view. A place to relax in, with warm and friendly surroundings.

Comfortable hotel with reasonable standards of service in an excellent location. The hotel is reasonable in all respects with the exception of value for money where the enormous premium charged for location, in the absence of any real competition, is not justified by the level or quality of service.

Good central position in Southwold It was disappointing that we were put into chalet style accommodation a short walk from the main hotel - and we were caught in a shower and got soaked going across for a meal once. It was a very expensive hotel so I felt that the inconvenience was not reflected in the price

Sadly, we were very disappointed. We have stayed there before, in the main building. We were consigned to one of the smaller chalets, & were told it was delibearte to have the fan in the bathroom going 24 hours a day. I investigated & found in other rooms it ran when the light was on, told them & despite denial an engineer confirmed I was right. The folding shower panel on the bath was filthy & damaged. The bedside light was too weak to read by. Breakfast was tasteless fried/scrambled egg, chewy bacon & toast only done on one side. Once one thing is poor, you begin to notice everything else. Not as good as it was.
