“ The good old Swan Hotel. We keep going back. Just a comfortable friendly place to return to after a day out walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Excellent breakfast. Great staff. ”

This 4-star hotel is in Southwold town centre, 200 metres from the sea. It has free parking, a bar offering local Adnams ales, and an à la carte restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes. Parts of the Swan Hotel date back to the 14th century. It mixes the traditional character of an English country house with modern comforts. The Swan's award-winning restaurant serves modern dishes and traditional favourites, made with fresh, local ingredients. The hotel's drawing room looks out over Southwold's market square and offers English cream teas. The traditional en suite rooms have a TV, hairdryer, and facilities for making tea and coffee. Some of the rooms look out over the garden and have their own patio area. Effeciency of the staff, comfort of the bedroom, and the general relaxed, but effecient atmoshere. The food was exceptional. The tired appearance of the decor and building, which,I must emphasise, did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay! The fried eggs need to be cooked to order and not kept warm to form a crust on the yolk.

Lovely location, right in the centre of Southwold. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom were very spacious. Will definitely be returning. Car park was a bit tight for space.

Excellent old world charm with great service. Dog friendly garden rooms are first class. Great location in the middle of a lovely town. Adnams on tap in the hotel and plenty of friendly pubs and good places to eat within walking distance. Nothing.

Good accommodation, helpful staff. Hotel in good position in town centre. All of the staff without exception appear eager to assist customers. Decor a little tired in some areas. Although this is all part of the character I suppose. The fire alarm activated at 1am and 3am on the first night. It was very loud and shocked us both awake. It would have been good to have been offered a gratuity like maybe a free meal as our nights rest was disturbed because of the faulty system. Staff were apologetic but dismissed it as a minor issue.

We love going there, it's in the middle of the town so everything is just a walk away, and the staff are brilliant. You will have read our negative comment, but the hotel didn't charge us for accommodation because it wasn't up to their standards. On our last visit we were in the garden rooms and the fire alarm went off twice during the night, at quarter to one and three o'clock. So we didn't have a good nights sleep.

Pretty near everything The Duvets on the beds were to big, they kept sliding off the bed and this made it difficult to sleep

Very pleasant room: quiet, clean secluded. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Restaurant is not as good as it sets out to be: on a previous visit last year our food came cold to the table. We ate elsewhere this time. Lighting levels in the bar too bright and harsh.

All staff were extremely friendly, helpful and informative The Swan is very centrally located for the town and beach and has its own car park We had a room in the courtyard - which was nice but badly in need of some tlc. Eg paint worn off in bedroom and window pane wood in bathroom in need of repair The Swan is an expensive 4-star hotel, but the English breakfast was quite sparse and not value for money

The Swan and Southwold are about ambience, reminiscence and sheer quaintness. The staff are very pleasant and seem content and motivated; the personal service is very good and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast and lunch were absolutely superb - sausages and egss cooked to perfection. The bed was comfortable. The fabric of the building externally (and in parts, internally) are in need of sprucing up. The heated towel rail could not be turned off. The TV was too small. The deluxe room we were in adjoined the backyard and was a bit noisy at times.

Great location, a few minutes walk to the sea Good breakfast Comfortable bed Masseuse available Plenty of social areas Good view of market place (room 20) Small bathroom (room 20) We paid £99 for 1 night due to a last minute deal; would have been disappointed had we paid more (particularly the hotel website price!)

Staff and bedroom and hotel Breakfast portabella mushroom not cooked as I asked, if you are going to put a fried tomato on the plate then cook it, the inside was hard. The poached eggs very well cooked but cold.

Staff were lovely, bed was incredibly comfortable! It was a freezing snowy weekend and the hotel wasn't warm. Needed more fires on. The reception area is soulless and not welcoming at all.

Good position. Easy parking. Comfortable room Pubic hair in bath. Noisy extractor on all night. Staff's unsympathetic reaction to complaint about extractor. 'Health and Safety' quoted as reason for extractor. Poor cooked breakfast.
