All the Staff were very friendly and a great atmosphere in the bar. Great breakfast.
Slightly shabby but cleanliness made up for it.
Thaxted is a beautiful town, very close to Stansted airport. Nice breakfast as part of the B & B. The staff were very helpful.
The pub area is very nice. The food is reasonably priced.Chris was over worked but very professional. I think he was let down badly with his staff
Room was dirty and everything needs replacing. Staff on the whole have not got a clue
problems solve with politeness, promptly and with a smile
a little bit haphazard breakfast service but food excellent
Beautiful old inn, well maintained, staff all very friendly, smart, and helpful, enjoyed a nice meal in a cosy position, pretty good value for money, our room was spacious and nice and all set in a lovely old Tudor village.
Only two things, could have done with slightly bigger food portions, although it was lovely, and the room near the boiler vent is a little noisy.
The staff went the extra mile over the Christmas period to make sure everyone had a good time. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clearly some time and effort had gone into making it look good.
The hotel itself needs money spent on it. The level of maintenance was poor. Leaking ceiling, bathroom and corridor lights didn't work. Greene King needs to invest in the building. It's a beautiful pub/hotel in a nice location but sadly the lack of investment is letting it down.
The pub was lovely; the breakfast was tasty.
I chose this spot because I thought it would have more character than the Premier Inn the rest of the family was staying in. When we arrived the pub was busy and it took a while to register for our room. I had been told there was free parking on site but there were no spots in the car park. I mentioned this to the desk clerk and told him where we had parked. At no point did he tell me that we couldnt park there so I was surprised and unhappy to get a pariking ticket the following morning!!! We got the keys to our room and the bed wasnt even made. We went back and got keys to a different room which was adequate but the windows were open (on the coldest day of the year) and there was only a thin duvet on the bed so it took quite a while to warm up!!! The pub / car park was noisy until 2am so overall I wasnt impressed. The staff works very hard, the pub is beautiful and the town is lovely but I unfortunately I'd have to opt for the Premier Inn next time.
Food, location, ambiance
Wi fi uneven
Food excellent, good menu choice. Bed very comfortable.
Disabled toilet remained blocked in spite of informing staff. Not enough staff on duty thus affecting service. Dangerous light fitting in bathroom which exploded just after my wife left it. Nowhere in shower to put soap. Decor very tired. In desperate need of a refurb.
We have stayed at the Swan several times over the last few years. Thaxted's a lovely place. The pub atmosphere is good and staff very pleasant.
The standard of the rooms has improved over the years, but it was let down by the curtains being suspended on a wire as most of the fittings were broken. Also the toilet needed cleaning when we arrived. Small issues I know but it didn't help the first impression.
Friendliness of staff Comfort of hotel Very accommodating to a gluten free diet. Quality of food
Excellent food and comfortable room
Wifi signal non existent in room
Beds and evening meal
Mould, blocked toilets, propped open fire doors, open fire escape door, light bulbs missing, light fittings shade missing, big damp patches, toilets not flushing, one member of staff on for breakfast and hotel full, manager promising things he then ignored, no pastries, poor choice of fruit, orange juice ran out and not refilled. Awfull stay.
*location *courtesy of the staff and the service *the traditional and cosy style of the bar and dining area.
The hotel was full and more staff were needed. The staff who were there struggled very hard to try to keep up with the demand.
Good location, comfy bed, good breakfast.
The room lighting was inadequate, with just a single wall lamp over the bed operated from a switch next to the door. It would have been impossible to work at the desk after dark. There were no bedside lamps, making it difficult to return to bed after turing out the light. The Wi-Fi was so weak that not all our devices could pick it up. Staff seemed very "haphazard" with their customer service.
Staff were most helpful, Breakfast was excellent. Room was located in one of the annexes, quiet enough. Overall okay for our one night stay.
Cleanliness could have been better, we reported some faults so hopefully these will repaired for next guests.
We use The Swan as it is close to visiting relatives. Good beer.
The bar area and food( including breakfast) was very good. Staff very accommodating. Helpful.
Cleanliness of rooms need to be addressed. Bathrooms tired. Need updating.
A lovely hotel/pub with a very friendly family atmosphere. We were only there for one night en-route to the airport, but enjoyed it tremendously. Lovely to see all the locals in the bar with their dogs! Staff efficient and pleasant. Food good. Breakfast substantial, with hot and cold.
Nothing not to like about the Swan. Our only mistake was that it was a bit far from Stansted so had a very expensive taxi ride!
no hot water for evening shower, toilet flust useless needed repairing.
Pub was nice . Food was ok.
Bathroom not totally clean . Saw a silverfish on the floor
The location is quite central, Thaxted town, quite well linked to nearest town centre Great Dunmow by bus and some food shops nearby, Post Office, and other sort of shops and restaurants and another comfortable and clean B&B close to the Swan, just in case for some reasons you should rush out from The Swan Hotel...
Fleas in the room and in the lounge area because they let enter dogs, to whom it may concern beware for I experienced quite annoying allergic side effect for some fleas' bites. Had to leave quickly also for poor hygiene conditions all over the premises, showers' plugholes blocked in several rooms, poor or non-existent Wi-Fi network availability in the rooms, I had to go downstairs in the lounge area to have a fair Wi-Fi network connection powered by "The Cloud" - a word to the wise then.
Staff were friendly and helpful, a good choice of breakfast foods.
Possible damp in the room, there were off colour patches one on the front wall and one on the back wall. If not damp, there is some sort of defect.
