The location was good for what we needed, all the staff were very helpful, friendly & courteous. The breakfast was good but............(see opposite)

The décor was in serious need of an update, bathroom window was clear glass & overlooked main road so blind always had to be down. Was disappointed that there was no smoked salmon to go with scrambled egg at breakfast although it was advertised.

Great atmosphere, nice staff, helpful and very pleasant. Food menu has enough choices to suit most tastes. Breakfast can be small or large, cold or cooked as you wish. Very relaxing. This was our second time this year and will probably return at some point.

Room 17 is not in the main hotel/pub bdg. Only real issue was the layout for the shower - why put it at the end of the bath where the ceiling slopes, the shower curtain pole slopes which also means that the curtain doesn't hang straight??This results in a wet floor!! Why not run the pipe work under the bath to other end and mount the shower/curtain at an appropriate height? We also stayed on a Saturday night which is a busy run rate for Stansted airport - which slightly spoils the ambience of a romantic getaway!

Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. The breakfast selection was good but was slow service

The toilet was dirty the room had mould above the window, the room carpet was worn and rucked up. There was no spare toilet roll on the last night and the water glasses were left unwashed. It took over an hour for the hot part of the breakfast to be served

    Comfortable bed.

Decoration a little 'tired' and bedroom furniture a strange mixture.

Liked the location my mother was born in Thaxted and we can back to visit family and see where she had grown up. It's a beautiful town and we loved the people.

The weather was warmer than normal and there was no fan in the room. Would have liked screens in the windows so we could leave the windows open all night.

Pretty location opposite a beautiful church, with a view of a windmill and some quaint almshouses. Very charming inn, full of character. Plenty of guest car parking. Useful to be within walking distance of village shops. Staff very friendly. Food delicious and good choice.

Sometimes it seemed to take a long time for our food to arrive, but we think the normal chef may have been on holiday. If we were being really picky then it would have been nice to have bedside lighting in the room.

The food was excellent - I particularly enjoyed the seaside sharer. The real ale on draft was very good also - unusual to find a Blackburn beer, Thwaites, so far from home. The locals were very welcoming and friendly. We stayed over night and our bed was lovely and comfy. The breakfast in the morning was superb!

We both struggled with wifi when we were in the pub, though this is a signal fault not really the pub's. I can't think of anything else negative to say about this pub!

Excellent view from room 5 in the front of the hotel. Good food, very good value for money. Comfortable, very pleasant hotel. Thaxted is a lovely small town, in a very nice part of Essex. Recommended.

Hotel is on the road through the town so there was traffic noise at times, particularly when it was hot and we had the window open - there is no air-con. The church clock strokes the hour. Room 5 had a problem with a noisy toilet cistern that didn't flush very well.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We really liked the fact that they were all from the locality so it felt almost "family". The food was great and the breakfast especially good value for money. The situation was fabulous for exploring the north part of Essex and we found it a beautiful county. Ideally situated for Saffron Waldon and many attractions. We will certainly be back.

We spoke to the manager as we checked out about the smell in the bathrooms, and apparently there is a slight drainage problem. The rooms were very clean and we were at a loss to understand the smell however it would seem it is a village problem! It didn't detract from our stay as everything else was perfect.

This hotel was situated opposite to where we attending a meeting so it was very convienient. The room was clean and tidy, with a plentiful supply of tea coffee and biscuits. We were there 2 nights and fresh towels were left along with top up supplies of tea and coffee on the second day. The breakfasts were very nice with choice of a continental type or cooked including smoked salmon or croque madame which my husband opted for on both days as well as a full english if required. On the second night, wanting a change to pub grub, we had dinner in an Indian restaurant 25m down the road, very nice.

It was on the flight path of Stanstead airport, which took some getting used to as due to the extraordinary hot weather we had to have the windows open during the night. That is not the fault of the hotel

Good location & good value for money at a reduced rate on a Sunday night

A bit tatty around the edges (no shower curtain); bit grubby by coffee facilities' bathroom could do with a refresh. Nothing terrible, but could be better.

Hotel , staff and food were great.

Sadly the location was not perfect. The traffic noise around the building and the planes flying over were rather intrusive. Spoiling an otherwise lovely stay.
