Swan Hotel  

We had a great stay at this hotel. All the staff were happy and friendly which makes all the difference. Our room was comfortable, warm and clean. Dinner and Breakfast in the hotel were both very good. All in all a hotel to recommend and the village is lovely.

Bathroom was "past its best" but this wasn't a problem as it was reflected in the price.

The room was comfortable and well equipped. We had an issue with maintenance and it was dealt with quickly even though it was a busy Saturday night. The staff were friendly yet professional. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the room rate included breakfast both of which were excellent quality and good value for money. Without a doubt will stay there again when visiting the area.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location in Thaxted is great - opposite the fabulous church and near the Guildhall. The food - both the breakfast and the evening meal - were excellent. The night's stay was an absolute bargain.

The bed was soft and "dippy". The room was cramped - the telephone was simply placed on the floor beside the bed! The bathroom smelt slightly of sewage. It was quite noisy - and I don't mean from the frequent airplanes which was expected - but was woken up at 12:30 and again at 1:30 by other guests.

lovely old pub, very polite, helpful and friendly staff. Good food - varied choice for both breakfast and other meals. Bedroom and bathroom both a good size, bed very comfy.

Bathroom had a sloping ceiling and shower attachment was at the sloping end so unless you were only 4ft 6in you couldn't stand under it and curtain wouldn't hang properly to stop water going on the floor!

The WIFI didn't work in my bedroom as it was located out in the courtyard - worked fine in the main building.

The bathroom was not very clean. The water glasses had not been washed.

The staff were friendly, caring and helpful. Central location Thaxted is well worth a visit along with surrounding areas and only 15/20 minutes drive from Stansted airport.

Not enough staff on duty-Breakfast tables left uncleared at the weekend. Espresso machine was not ready at breakfast time. Shame as some people enjoy drinking proper coffee. Booked a non refundable reservation (in other words an advance booking, but it was not charged in advance) . This is confusung for some people who think they have already paid and puts the reception staff in the difficult position of trying to assure people that they have not been double charged. Booking.com are apparently aware of this situation and yet still haven´t acted upon this. Bedrooms are in desparate need of refurbishment. They are tatty and tired looking. Who on earth thought it was a clever decision to place the toilet roll holder out of arms length when seated on the toilet? Breakfast was acceptable, but nothing extrordinary. Apart from the staff, it was quite dissapointing,but I suppose you canˇt expect too much as the Hotel is owned (I believe) by Green King who obviously don´t wish to invest in the property. If you do book a room here, bare in mind that some of the rooms can be noisy if you have the windows open on warm nights as smokers go outside to the front or the back of the hotel and obviously it can be loud especially at the weekends. Can´t comment on restaurant/bar meals as they weren´t consumed during the stay, however it is widely reported by people that a lot of menu items are pre-prepared off site. For a traditional home cooked sunday lunch, I would suggest you look elsewhere. It is the only hotel in Thaxted, but there are several bed and breakfast places which may be a better alternative. Booking.com- I would like to hear from you that you will act regarding the confusion over the advance payment situation.

Comfortable bed. Great shower. Really nice breakfast. Lovely young girl booked us in and served us dinner. Good view. Great location. Nice town.

The room had a really Creaky floor . It was a very busy little intersection. The traffic noise may bother some.

The location in the town is excellent but it is 21 pounds by taxi from Stansted Airport

There is no 24 reception so they close the main door and you have to use an emergency exit if you are leaving so early. The beds are not good at all you can feel some springs and there are some steams in the bathroom. We asked for an early breakfast and they didnt give it to us

Had to wait two hours for food to arrive at dinner even though I reserved a table.

The hotel is lovely. Thaxted is lovely. the staff were very friendly especially the young lady who served us breakfast and the food was good. The bed was very comfortable.

The heating was not working on the evening of arrival although Paul was very helpful in trying to get it working. The shower was not clean with hairs all over. The radiator was dirty and looked like it had not been cleaned for some time.
