It was a genuine, down to earth pub as many inns in Stranraer still are (we discovered later!). I arrived earlier than my partner and was made to feel welcome and comfortable in the bar by the staff and regular customers while I waited for him to arrive. We had a 'chalet' attached to the back of the main building which was great because we could keep ourselves to ourselves or take just a few steps to join in the fun in the bar - and by the sound of it there WAS fun in the bar! But it didn't keep us awake and I wished we'd had the energy to join in! Our room was clean, warm and comfortable with plenty of parking just outside the door. We will stay there again. Not a place for snobs! But that was actually one of the reasons why we LIKED it . . .

The staff were very friendly. The locals of the inn made us more than welcome on both kareokee nights. Would certainly stay here again. The credit card machine did not work, or the wi fi signal was not very strong. This could be more of geografical issue, rather than the staff at hotel.

The thistle inn was ideal for us. We needed a one night stay in stranraer before we caught our ferry to belfast the next day. The chalet- type room was clean and plenty big enough for the three adults who were sharing a room.we also had our collie dog with us and she settled in well..the port was only 5 minutes away the next morning. The car park was very tight and not easily accessible for a larger car, also the televisions was very small up on the wall

U should have appalling rating for this place. Carpark entry into tiny Billiard Room with panoramic view and smell of Gents toilet (seat-up). Barman/Chef/Cleaner had tantrum + threw register across carpark.

At first I was wary of staying here after reading some bad reveiws, but could honestly not find a major problem with the hotel. We stayed in the chalets at the back of the pub and found the rooms very nice, even though in need of some small repairs, but still in verey good condition. The staff were lovely, very welcoming and friendly! We would definatly stay here again. The only thing wrong was some minor repairs in the room, the bathroom door was slightly coming away from the hinges and had to slam the door to shut it.

The chef was really friendly and couldnt have been more helpful, the lady in the bar who gave us the key was also lovely. The room was very comfortable and clean. I have a 1 year old son and he was catered for very well. Would definately stay here again. Parking was a bit tight and entrance to car park very narrow.

The manager/owner Sandy was empathetic when he saw that we were very upset about the noise level at the B&B. The room was clean and attractive. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and served in a timely manner. The chef was very pleasant and took time to chat with us the next morning. The proximity of the B&B to the ferry was the reason we booked it. When we first arrived, everything was handled by the woman at the bar who was not particularly helpful. We were unprepared for the fact that this B&B was directly above a very lively and noisy bar with loud music until 1:00 am. Parking was terrible as all parking spaces were full. We were instructed to park in an area which effectively blocked in any cars already in the lot. Fortunately we were the last ones in, and the first ones to leave, otherwise there might have been some problems. The cost of the B&B was a bit pricy for the value of what we got. There was no one at the check out counter when we left and so we are still unsure as to the final settlement.

This hotel advertised restaurant and bar neither of which actually existed. The hotel looked a little derelict from the outside. The chalets were at the back.

For a disabled traveller room 5 is excellent as the shower is easy access in and out being a twin room their is a choice of is a soft mattress and a firm one. The chef was very good and bought my breakfast to my room each day as getting up steps is a problem for me personally. Good for point of being able to park at door of chalet. For solo disabled traveller this hotel would be difficult to access if you are in a wheelchair or have problems climbing steps to public area.

The breakfast was ok. The cost for the standard was vastly overpriced. The locks on our doors would not meet compliance safety standards, I.E. Difficult to lock from outside, difficult to open and lock from inside. In fact, in our unit, we slept with the door unlocked all night, the other unit, in event of fire, you would not escape easily. Toilet seat in one unit was broken. No mattress protectors which we feel would be a health issue. The water from the shower did not drain away, and in fact covered your feet! I cannot remember the exact rating except it was above 7.5 - we feel it should rate well below that.

It was close enough to the Ferry terminal and train station to walk the rooom was clean and breakfast was good The toilet ran most of the night and dripping water sound coming from the wall. The curtains were not big enough to close out the bright lights shinning into the room from the parking lot.
