Owned by Henry VIII and visited by Queen Elizabeth I, this historic 13th century hotel successfully blends its existing architectural features with a twist of modern design.

This 16th-century coaching inn located in the historic village of Hamstead Marshall. The White Hart Inn is a 10-minute drive from both Newbury and Hungerford.
Score from 204 reviews Very good
All was good, minor negatives like the carpet in the room was in need of a spruce up and the floors were creaky as you'd expect in an historic building.
Location excellent in lovely town. No noise from bar on a Monday evening despite it being a pub. Friendly staff, private car parking at rear of Hotel.
Shower and taps far too hot with insufficient adjustment. Going by web site we expected a bath in a superior room. Decor showing some wear and tear
Friendly staff . Convenient to many local towns and places of interest. Nice historic small hotel.
Poor choice of fruit at breakfast and overlooked eggs
Staff were rude and unhelpful. I arranged a late checkin and then was told by the night porter he had no reservation. When pressed he did find it. When I came to check out there was no one available/ could be bothered to check me out.
Late check in
We stayed in one of the new courtyard rooms last time and they were absolutely superb. This time we were in the main hotel and the room was fine but not as good as the courtyard one. The bathroom had an excellent shower and everything you would expect in a bathroom, which worked just fine, but it badly needs renovation.
Pretty well everything. The evening bar meal was very good and the breakfast was superb. The staff were all good and the bedroom was very spacious and comfortable.
Soiled duvet and bed linen. Filthy bathroom. No way worth £90 a night. Photos on booking .com did not look anything like the room we were put in.
Nothing at all. Worst place we ever stayed in.
A little expensive in comparison with other similar hotels.
As the breakfast was really good, we had our evening meals as well excellent.
Needs a bit of up- dating.
Convenience for relatives and friends in town.
The friendly staff nothing seemed to much trouble very pleasant place to stay
my room was a bit too hot.the bathroom radiator wouldn't turn down.
location in the town near to the station.
Nothing bad to report.
The Swan Inn is a charming historic coaching inn which is perfect for overnight or short stays and conveniently located just off the A4 (an Old Roman Road London-Bath road) in the ancient market town of Hungerford near the train station. The station should be viewed an advantage for those using that mode of transport and carrying luggage. I did not hear a single freight train and if there are any in the night they are hardly that frequent. The hotel is a minute walk from a 24 hour Tesco that is tucked away from the street if you need any personal supplies! The hotel appears to have gone through a fairly recent refurbishment so we found it pristine and the staff welcoming and friendly. Although opposite the town hall (?) clock and looking onto the road, we had a surprisingly peaceful night (Saturday!) which I have rarely had in many city hotels even with double glazing. We arrived by car and the FREE car park was sufficient for the hotel. (Many modern chains charge these days) For complainers about size of car park, where on earth could they extend it to since the hotel has been there for centuries and been built around. Whilst the car park (around the back) was not signposted it did not take much effort for my husband to get out of the car and walk straight into the reception and ask directions (or for anyone to use their common sense and work it out). If things are signposted very often those who do not need to know where something is start to use it. You can always park and pay in the Railway car park you have to drive through if you prefer? For such an ancient property we had a surprisingly roomy room with tv, large bathroom. Whilst we were expecting a fold up bed for our daughter, the room boasted a proper single bed at the other end of the room (from us) and a sofa so exceeding our expectations The website photographs did not do The Swan Inn justice actually. Many comments I have read on Booking.
dinner was appalling with somedishes having to be returned
location was good breakfast was nice breakfast staff friendly
Dirty entrance, worn damaged carpets, Limited tight car park. Proximaty to a railway line with freight usage during the night. Opposite a town hall clock that chimes on the hour.
Bathroom plumbing is old and does not work properly. Water temperature changes constantly making it difficult to have shower. There is noise from street because windows are single pane. The furnishings and furniture is old and very dated. This could be fixed if owners renovated the rooms because there is potential to make this a great hotel. As is, this is just an average to decent hotel. Hungerford is small town so there is not much competition in Hungerford. The other choice is the Bear Hotel a short walk away which looks like it was renovated recently and is a good place for a meal. The Three swans have a better location if you travel by train.
The hotel is in a good location, right in the middle of the high street and a short 5 minute or less walk from train station. Breakfast is excellent with many choices of hot cooked to order. There is full English breakfast or smaller options. There is standard breakfast buffet with cold items like fruit, juices. The WIFI is mostly good but can be weak signal at times. The size of room is big with full size bathroom and LCD TV. The staff are friendly.
No signage for car park - had to go in and ask. Room numbers were not signposted in the lobby.
Location in High Street. Quiet warm room. Plenty of hot water. Good breakfast.
Bedroom cramped compared to US service it could be improved
pub atmosphere location
Bar was a bit pricy
Friendly and efficient staff, Well appointed and comfortable room, Free parking
We could not get the heated towel rail to work
excellent location, pleasant bar with good ales overlooking the beautiful Christmas lights of the High Street. Room was fine for our stop - not that large but sufficient for a stopover
It's a bit of a wander through corridors to some rooms but this is not a major problem.
Location was good and room was comfortable with good bathroom and good TV service. Breakfast was good and service was generally prompt and courteous. A nice touch is putting notes on the history of Hungerford and of the Hotel as well as suggestions of things to do In Room Guide to the Hotel's Services
There was nothing to dislike.
This was a one night break on the way to a holiday. When we booked it said a continental breakfast was included but at breakfast were told we could have anything (i.e. help ourselves from the cereals etc followed by a full English). A lovely surprise and very good value in a very clean and well located hotel.
Very friendly staff Excellent location Good food Free car parkig
