In picturesque Woodstock, just 20 minutes’ drive from Oxford centre, Macdonald Bear Hotel offers free parking and a restaurant. Set in a 13th-century inn, the charming rooms have period features.

Great location - right in the centre of Woodstock. We were a party of four and one couple had a room overlooking the garden and the other couple had a room overlooking the street. Both were quiet. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The bedrooms and shower rooms were very clean.
It would have been nice to have had a guest sitting room. The town house is welcoming but the decor is a little tired.
We liked the helpful staff, the informality whilst being efficient, the breakfast was very enjoyable and substantial.
The room was on the small side however we were aware of this prior to booking, and the stairs were steep again we were aware of this it would not be very suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
This was the third or forth time that I stayed at the Town House. The location is great, the staff is extremely friendly and will do everything to accommodate the guests' needs. I recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to Woodstock and/or surroundings.
The only thing I didn't like was the pillow. It was a bit too hard for my liking.
The location was excellent - right in the centre of the village. The accommodation was a good standard, clean, all facilities, friendly and welcoming hosts and a good breakfast. Overall, good value.
Only a couple of minor things I can think of. The size of the duvet felt undersized for the bed and it would have been good to have heavier curtains to help block out the light.
Friendly but unobtrusive service. Quiet location. Excellent breakfast. Homely feel.
Best breakfast in Woodstock and great hosts
A gentleman greeted us, very friendly welcome. Carried my bag upstairs, to a very pleasant 1st floor room at the front. Very clean, warm and comfortable. He explained where to park our car for free. Asked time we would like breakfast, which was lovely, freshly cooked to order for full English. Middle of small town and next door to Blenheim Palace, lots of shops & eating places around us. We had dinner at The Kings Head, food superb, with some friendly interesting chat from Luis our waiter.
A little noise from the road & could hear traffic from the main road too, because we like a window open. But it would definitely not stop us coming again.
Excellent location for visiting Blenheim Palace and many nearby restaurants and pubs. Comfortable and warm accommodation.
Parking spaces outside the property were full on Sat night and Sun morning, but there was free parking a few minutes walk away.
Could be better sausages and nicer croissants but overall good
The bedroom, bed and bathroom were very clean and comfortable (apart from the heat — see what we didn't like), with everything we could need. There were many helpful brochures, including the bus timetable to Oxford. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were plentiful.
We couldn't turn the bedroom and bathroom radiators down enough for our comfort so we were too hot in the night. There was an unpleasant smell of cooking fat in the breakfast room which the staff tried to eliminate by opening doors and windows, which caused some draughts. The television was on all through breakfast which made it difficult to have a conversation with each other, let alone with the staff and other visitors. We would have liked to be more friendly with the two staff members, but it was difficult to chat with the television on all the time. We would have preferred a choice of whole yogurt (i.e. not low fat) with breakfast.
CLEAN PLACE PLUS PEOPLE WHO KNEW THE AREA
Friendly and helpful owners Character Breakfast!!!
Loved The Townhouse, right in town & convenient to restaurants. Clean, tidy & well organised
Staff, comfort, location,
Nothing to not like
Clean, welcoming and friendly. Everything you need.
We were visiting Blenheim so this is a great location. The twin room was really comfortable, there was loads of hot water and a power shower. Breakfast in the conservatory was fresh and plentiful.
We liked the location, also the breakfast was very good and the people very friedly
we didn't like the tiny double bed ( I was travelling with my grown up daughter and would have preferred twin beds). Also the mattress was very creaky and uncomfortable. In consequence we could not sleep waking each other up all the time because of lack of space for 2 adults.
The Town House is a perfect location for Blenheim Palace in the charming village of Woodstock. The staff are kind and helpful and comfort has been carefully considered. The breakfast was excellent. We also run a Four Star bed and breakfast and would stay with them again.
A very attractive property which puts you in the heart of Woodstock. Owners could not have been more helpful and tuned into guests having a positive experience. Homemade marmalade is awesome.
Breakfast is a challenge due to the poor extraction, leaving the dining room smelling of cooking oil and butter. Our clothes smelled the same after breakfast. Rooms at the top of the house are a little cramped.
The location Friendly welcome Great breakfast
Parking was not that easy as its restricted to 1 hour or 3 hours outside the B & B, More parking is available but its a short walk away.
I think this was the best ever hotel breakfast - cooked while we had some cereal and juice.
The stairs were a little steep if you have creaky knees!
This B&B is excellent. It is very clean and very comfortable. The owners of the place are most friendly and helpful. As strict vegetarians, they went the extra mile in the preparation of our breakfast and suggested places to visit, complete with addresses for GPS guidance.
The narrow steps of the stairs.
Very close to the Palace gate in the middle of the town, Woodstock. Friendly greeting, very helpful. Visited with my daughter,we had a room each, a double and a small double. Very clean and lovely bathrooms.Good quality bedding Excelent breakfast.
We were on the second floor. The stairs were quite steep and the treads narrow, as you would expect from an old property.
I had a lovely stay - my huge room was superb with a spacious bathroom. The staff are really lovely, answering online queries and in my case sending a PDF of the local bus service. I arrived much later than expected but the host was very welcoming, doing everything in his power to ensure I had a lovely stay. As for the cooked breakfast, I can honestly say it was the best I've ever had. Was very sorry when it was time to leave.
Very helpful staff and a wonderful breakfast.
