We enjoyed our stay at the Varsity Hotel, coming from Cambridge itself we went there for a weekend break and thoroughly enjoyed. The room was clean and tidy and modern and we loved the bathroom and shower! The only things we'd comment on was the continental breakfast which we didn't much like and the spa which was a bit too small.
every thing in general in great about this hotel. it is a small building but do not fell like that. the location was amazing. the roof terrace wonderful 360 degree view of Cambridge. very nice staff and very welcoming.
the only thing that the restaurant did not have any elevator, my mother with really bad knees and did not have breakfast even it was paid for because of that.
Beautiful room and hotel in general. Rooftop bar is spectacular. Location is perfect.
Considering the rates of the hotel I would expect a complimentary hot breakfast - if one wants porridge, eggs, full English etc this costs extra so our breakfast was essentially cereal, yoghurt and pastries...
Fantastic location within walking distance of everything
Overpriced for what you get. Quite a small hotel although room was a good size (superior king). Seemed too many and not overly effective staff - definitely not 5 star treatment. Room was cleaned quite late in evening (5pm).
Breakfast poor Room somewhat spartan Bath pointless - it had no taps! Very expensive wines Poor room menus Restaurant nothing special and very cramped
The wifi connection was very unreliable
Staff, room, rooftop view and central location. Professional, reliable and efficient valet parking.
Very disappointed by the evening meal and general ambience of steakhouse style restaurant.
Comfy bed Beautiful bathroom with roll top bath Roof top bar with great views
Really poor quality breakfast
The balcony and roof terrace View out over the city Good quality technology in room
Full English not included in price
Great location in the centre of Cambridge, with a spacious, clean and very comfortable room. Facilities were excellent and the staff friendly. Cocktails in the bar were good too!
Wonderful comfortable rooms restaurant with great food 5 mins away from centre of Cambridge.
It is quite expensive. Cooked breakfast costs more.
Our second visit and again an all round superb stay - room amenities, staff, location, the breakfast and the roof top bar!
It rained for one day - obviously beyond the control of management!
Some staff were a little blunt
Nice welcome, Jacuzzi and the view! Very relaxing. The bar at the terrace fantastic view.
Wifi got lost most of the time in my room.
Central location Rooftop bar Clean rooms
Unhelpful staff Additional charges -- we were charged for toothbrushes/toothpaste despite paying 300 pounds a night!!!
The location so close to the colleges and river. The standard of the rooms were very comfortable and bathrooms was very good.
The staff were efficient but unfriendly. No welcoming smile on checking in and throughout the one night's stay and at the average breakfast no smiles or relaxed atmosphere were exhibited. The hotel has London prices but not the quality or style. Not good value for money costing £303 for one night including valet parking. Next time in Cambridge we will choose another hotel.
The rooftop bar The bed was comfy The fact that rooms have a kettle and tea bags
From the start we felt unwelcome, the receptionist who checked us in was unpleasant and it felt as if we were inconveniencing her by checking in. The fact that there is only one small lift means there's nearly always a queue to use it. The shower in the bathroom was tiny and the running water was very weak. I think for the very expensive nightly price you should get a cooked breakfast included/or at least warm eggs as part of the buffet - instead you have to pay extra to have eggs (which I saw most people doing as the continental selection was poor!). The waiters as well were rushed and cold in their manner. I had a fillet steak at lunch which was the toughest piece of fillet I've ever eaten in my life! Spa very underwhelming - tiny jacuzzi! Will not being staying here again, terrible value for money and I felt the photos are really misrepresentative of what it's actually like.
Location, room and bed, front desk staff
Spa is only a jacuzzi and a tiny sauna and Turkish bath. You are virtually forced to pay 19.50 punds per day parking fee. At breakfast they start taking away, or running out of, food half an hour before they close. Prices very high.
Rooftop bar. Friendly staff. Beautiful room. View from restaurant. Free wifi.
A little noisy one evening with rowdy students returning home across the road. But I suppose that's to be expected in a University town!
Quality of service, quality of buildings, value for money breakfast - outstanding given quality of hotel - £6.95 for a full English breakfast - you could pay £20 - £25 for far a so-so breakfast in a 3* London hotel.
Rooftop bar lovely but really over the top prices
Efficient, pleasant staff. Super and comfortable room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast (Sets one up for the day!)
Price there are as good for a lot less
Quirky decor Great location Friendly staff Free wi-fi Comfortable bed
Room was quite small Toilet roll was cheap No parking nearby
The hotel is very expensive but the rooms are tiny! On arrival the staff were very abrupt and unfriendly. The air conditioning in the room was broken (it was a very hot day). When we complained, the staff admitted they knew about the problem! We just felt they really didn't care about service. Our friends who were also staying there felt the same way as we did. Would never go back there!
Great location Breakfast excellent
Room a little small for the cost
