Friendly, helpful staff, good food, great location
Noisy neighbours upstairs, woke me in the middle of the night. Room overlooked beer garden, which was noisy with music one evening.
Restaurant service appalling
Staff were very helpful and friendly.
My particular room was on side of hotel next to busy road with constant traffic.
Pleasant 10 minutes to high street. Staff efficient and pleasant. Food was very good. We will be back. Thank you.
It was ideal for what I was looking for and would certainly would book again should I visit Canterbury again.
restaurant excellent, breakfast outstanding
The bathroom was poor, has anyone who designs these rooms used them? Luckily we visited in the summer, if the towel rail had been on, I would have burnt my knees on it when using the toilet. Also there was not one place to stand between the bed and the bathroom without standing on a creaky board. (The same in the room above us as you can hear every step from the occupants).FIX THE FLOORING!
Room was perfect and had everything you could need including a hairdryer. Bed very comfortable. Night porter very friendly.
Very noisy. Had some kind of generator humming the whole night which drive me mad. In the morning there was continued slamming of doors, plus road noise. Gave me a headache.
Very attentive staff. A peaceful setting with only a 15 to 20 minute walk to the old city.
Like most hotels without a/c it can be a bit uncomfortable in hot weather
Hotel was clean and comfortable with on site parking, which is important to us and within easy reach of Canterbury Centre.
Furnishings were a little tired, but did the job. Perhaps a refit could be considered in the future. We also had a chipped mug in the room, but as there were 2 of us in a 3 bedded room we didn't need to use it.
within walking distance of all the sights of Canterbury, the Victoria is a quiet haven with good helpful staff, plenty of parking and a restaurant with a reasonable selection of nicely presented food. The room was comfortable and clean.
Some of the reception furniture is looking a bit tired.
Reception staff were EXCELLENT, breakfast offered excellent choices, accommodation was big enough for a short stay, bathroom well-appointed and superbly clean, bed was comfortable and I slept soundly despite overlooking a busy road.
Having to check out at 11.00am on a Sunday, nearly missed a crucial chunk of The Archers omnibus. And one, tiny, detail - the waste pipes of the washbasin and the bath needed attention - they were very slow to drain.
Extremely comfortable beds and bedding! Also generous selection of tea, coffee and biscuits and very friendly staff.
the attached bar and restaurant
no air conditioning
Staff extremely professional, friendly and helpful. When I explained my problems below they were immediately dealt with as though in a much better class of hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff on Reception or the Restaurant and bar and they were really friendly too.
Room was shabby and not as clean as I would have liked; grit on carpet and bathroom floor. Mattress was so soft I had difficulty sleeping and still have backache. Pump system for water is so loud I was woken at 6.45 daily when next door had shower. Wifi variable, mine worked but sisters next door didn't. When I checked in there was no soap, bath towel or bath mat available and my main light did not work. Decor very tatty, even in Reception sofa covers were ripped. It needs a major overhaul
Easy parking, a short walk into Canterbury, quiet.
The room was quite small.
Was expecting this place to be a bit noisy in the evening but I couldn't of been further from the truth. Nice pub, quiet rooms. Would highly recommend a stay here. Close to the city and train station to the coast just a 10 minute walk.
There really was nothing to dislike,
room a bit small
The breakfast, the staff, within walking distance of city centre
We had a really big family room which was brillant, but only one small fan for a room with 4 people is NOT enough and a very warm night. Location of room right next to a roundabout was not optimal.
The room was spacious and clean, the staff was helpful, the place was cosy. Competitive room rates.
The room could be too warm during summer time (windows in our room could not be wide opened and it tended to be stuffy sometimes). The wifi connection was quite poor inside the room. The hotel itself was a bit far from the main action in town -- 15 mins walk to West Gate. This was a real challenge when you take you luggages to / from the train stations.
A big CCTV monitored carpark at the back. Within easy reach for the ferries to the continent. Good food in the restauarnt. Staff friendly.
Not ideal for the city centre especially when you've arrived after a long drive. Our room faced the roundabout outside so it was too noisy to sleep with the window open.
Convenient parking, lovely pub atmosphere.
Menu needs more salad type foods and lighter options. See Jamie Oliver recipes.
Location was nice, a short walk to the city center.
Sound proofing in bedrooms could be better
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Jackie was most accommodating and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was good for the continental breakfast. The restaurant was very nice and cozy.
Wifi week in the single room I had. I was unable to connect in the room as it was not close to a hub. In order to get a connection I had to go in the hallway and then go to the stairs to sit. Maybe need more hubs throughout the building.
