The last hotel on the A9, The Ferry Inn at Scrabster is newly renovated and has wonderful sea views. Just north of Thurso, Scrabster Harbour is the gateway to the Orkney Islands.
Score from 163 reviews Very good
Offering a restaurant serving fresh Caithness seafood, Pentland Hotel is centrally located in Thurso and provides free WiFi access in public areas. A lounge bar with snacks is at the guests' disposal....

Located close to the centre of the small town of Thurso, this is an excellent base for exploring the North Coast.

Plenty hot water and shower
Your bar food was poor ,I had fish and chips with veg everything was cold including the plate. Our friends had f /chips and steak pie they were also poor.
we were warm and breakfast was very good
Needs modernising The pull cord in the bathroom was filthy and the bottom but was missing. The girl at breakfast had no customer interaction!
Bed was comfortable and the room was nice and warm
On arrival, having travelled 14 hrs by car and an outside temperture of zero to be allocated a cold moldy shed with beds that the heating was broken and then having to pay extra for a proper room that was cleanand warm. OUTRAGEOUS.
Bad bed, aged interior, didn't feel safe.
it was not well heated very cold the bathroom was like an outside toilet very cold too cold to have a shower we had to go to ask for service in cafe the chips where over done Would not stay there again for that money
beds where comfortable
room was warm when we arrived
Very Basic. But wouldn't pay more for an upgraded one
Near the ferry. Food served in the bar. Warm little room.Excellent breakfast served from 7am
Found used cotton buds on bed
Everything! It was a shack at back of hotel. Cheap but nasty
In need of redecoration Eating area Breakfast and whole dining area experience. Most tables were left with dirty plates etc and not taken away when finished. Carpet in reception area was a hazard
Size of room and bathroom although we upgraded to the hotel room due to poor responses about the lodge rooms. View was fab
The lodges would benefit from an upgrade, to include carpets and soft furnishings. We are so glad we didn't go for the standard lodges.
linen and towels were very good. bathroom clean and quite modern. Breakfast and evening meal very good.
there was nothing i did not like.
the staff were in touch with me making sure my requirements for my family were ready for our arrival. the service and meals were excellent. i could not have asked for more. i would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for making our stay perfect.
Accommodation tired but acceptable. Rustling of the mouse kept me awake.
Staff anf food good.
No wifi in rooms Nowhere comfy to sit whilst using wifi Needs a quiet public room away from mad kids
Quiet room Decent breakfast
The lodges they were very basic probably as basic as you could get no comforts although very clean.
We upgraded to the hotel .The lodges were tucked round the back they were very in attractive and slightly depressing looking. The hotel was wonderful a complete contrast to the lodges. This rating is for the lodges not the hotel. I would recommend the hotel but definitely the lodges.
The evening menu looked good so we decided to invite 4 relatives to eat with us. The food was absolutely delicious BUT the service awful. We soon realised that one lone waitress was rushed off her feet and the bar extremely busy. We had to go to the bar to say we were ready to order and likewise to order deserts. The poor waitress just could not cope on her own, with occasional help from a member of bar staff. She grew more and more surly throughout the evening, we had to go to the bar to get our own drinks and one of our party spilt full pint while carrying it back. This was met by "Thats all I need" as she threw a roll of blue paper towel at us. We had to point out that it needed a mop and bucket and offerred to mop ourselves. Memories of a wonderful stay were tarnished by a shortage of restaurant staff.
The View from room 209 was wonderful. Breakfast was lovely with courteous, prompt professional service. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was spotless with the fresh fruit left daily on the tea tray, a welcome extra!
difficult to find any
l travelled with my eldest son .we both found our stay way above our expectations in every way.staff were so helpful.room was very good.food was excellent & a wide selection available.breakfast was a dream.well done & thank you.we hope to return some day.
bit tired for block with room 24
parking, room size, ok bar meal
Rooms looked a bit tired and could do with a bit of a refresh. Walls paper thin and could hear next rooms tv! Would pay extra to stay in a room in the hotel if going again tho if just wanting somewhere for a bed for a night, it's fine.
Location good, staff friendly, in particular bar staff. Meals nice enough.
The amount of the evening meal and breakfast was fine but the quality of the materials poor as was the cooking.
The view The staff The facilities
Rooms were 'tired' Light string in bathroom of '4' was filthy. Lot of traffic noise. Swear I heard a mouse squeaking and scratching rustling about through the night.
Breakfast and meals were excellent. Proximity to Scrabster. Staff excellent.
