This August my wife and I with our two children (11 and 6 years) completed our 8th consecutive summer on the Isle of Wight staying at The Wellington Hotel, Ventnor. The reasons for this, a unique classically styled Hotel, wonderful location, great sea views from your balcony and above all a lovely welcome, clean functional rooms and a great breakfast! We all love it! Having looked to leave a review, I took time to read some of the recent reviews, which to say the least were harsh and unfair. I'm sure some visitors have encountered a few issues, which can normally be resolved, but there's always some who expect far more than is on offer. As with many very old buildings, up-keep can be an issue, but the management, within the price range that they charge per room (which is excellent value), do a very good job keeping on top of this...new good quality carpets all round in the general areas being the latest up-grade. This Hotel has character...some of the rooms are large, and some not so large, but just give them a ring and ask them for a idea of what you're booking...they're very helpful! The dining room and especially dining terrace when the weather is good, can't be bettered for breakfast. A crisp white table cloth etc, drinks served at the table, with a buffet breakfast. (six hot choices plus numerous other cold selections...all fresh produce), which is far better than their original order and wait service. On the parking front...it is restricted, but the answer is either get back to the hotel early and grab a spot, or drop off the family/luggage, park five minutes walk away and enjoy the architecture of neighbouring properties on the way back! Just to finish off, with any Hotel like The Wellington, you have to take a few idiosyncrasies in your stride and embrace the Isle of Wight, which in general is very similar. The general Manager Lefteris is both approachable and welcoming!
