Score from 126 reviews Wonderful
Hotel was quiet. Lovely helpful staff. Very clean room with good up to date features. Right next to the beach. Very pretty and tranquill
Poor phone reception and wifi mainly due to location of hotel near seafront
The view The balcony The comfortable bed
Noise from the bar below the room in the evening and at breakfast time
Cleanliness, welcoming staff, good food, great location. Room with blacony was very good.
Very minor points but toilet paper was so thin you had to use multiple shhets so it was false economy as wew the napkins at breakfast. If these were the worst points in a hotel then it must be worth a visit.
The view Friendliness and helpfulness of staff The staff were excellent and saved the day but they were let down by lack of maintenance of the place. The owner is lucky to have them.
The owner needs to close for about 6 weeks and completely refurbish then get advice as to room layout and ambience of hotel, restaurant and bar. Also acquire some land down from the hotel to make much needed parking. I thought it expensive for what we got..
loved the views over the sea. Food was excellent Room was excellent and clean Location was great and easy to get to
We loved the view from our balcony and the delicious breakfast. The staff were extremely polite, friendly and professional. We would go back to the hotel in the future, as Ventnor has much to offer and the hotel is a pleasure to stay at.
The views of course are stunning and we were personally shown to our room by the receptionist. Can't remember when that last happened!
Cold room, no dressing gowns, hotel in need of fresh paint, worn carpets. Poorly turned out dining room staff although the breakfast was OK.
Paid extra for superior room and balcony was enormous. Loungers and table were supplied outside. Loved the Edwardian? style window fittings and modern minimalist decor. Really liked the architecture and the food in the restaurant (evening) was excellent. Breakfasts were good and croissants out of this world!
My husband ordered the full English breakfast and i had tomatoes on toast as i thought the mushrooms might be overcooked. They were, little dried up black things.
location and views were superb - 2 minutes to both town centre and seafront. lovely balcony with reclining sun chairs, looking out over sea. bed very clean and comfortable. breakfasts were really excellent - liked the fact that you could just help yourself to everything. evening food in restaurant was beautiful, as was the restaurant - with great sun terrace for both breakfast and evening dining. staff were wonderful and the bar manager was a fantastic host. we would definitely return for these reasons.
the rooms and communal corridors were very shabby - could do with a real overhaul. no fridges in rooms was a disappointment. furnishings rather tired. this could be an amazing boutique hotel with the right designer. despite this, we would still return as the positives far outweighed the negatives.
Tim in the reception area was very help-ful
Very friendly welcoming staff, lovely views from the room. Very laid back and particularly liked the restaurant the food was excellent! We ate there both nights. Breakfasts out on the terrace in warm winter sunshine- waiting staff very efficient
Poor phone reception
Dinner was excellent.
There were very noisy children running around first thing in the morning and in the evening.
Staff very helpful
A wire hanging out in bathroom from the radiator to the sink! Not good for small children. Coffee table top is not attached to base! Very dangerous!
Comfortable room with spacious balcony. Friendly staff. Outstanding dinner and service, again with a view overlooking Ventnor and the ocean.
Car parking was a real squeeze.
Location and view from room balconies and bar terrace spectacular. Drifting of to sleep at night listening to the sound of the breaking waves. Food in restaurant very good but limited choice on menu; don't know how often menu changes. However must mention the White Chocolate Brule; exceptional!! A real winner. Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. A great place to go for a quiet weekend away to unwind.
Run out of yogurt for breakfast. One member of staff seemed reluctant to book meals and drinks on to room. Was told they don't like doing it because the bar & restaurant were run as a separate business to the hotel and the paperwork becomes difficult. I must reiterate that this was only one member the rest of the food and beverages staff were excellent.
The whole ambience of the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities were excellent. Only downside was that I was with my elderly mum and she had a bit of a struggle with stairs to restaurant. However, it was worth the struggle, food excellent!!
It's not "didn't like" but parking could be an issue in high season, we didn't struggle. Only access to restaurant was via two flights of stairs which some folk might find an inconvenience
Beautiful views, hospitality very good, lovely hotel. Highly recommend.
Can't really complain, if one thing was parking but it was ok.
Sea view was a nice feature
Damp inside the room unpleasant Strong smell of damp in the corridor 2 singles put together to make a double - uncomfortable Broken window they were unable to fix Location of family room a struggle to get to with bags & young child Hotel in very bad condition Minimal cleaning done, didn't change towels unless asked, bins, and cobwebs everywhere Beach was stone Had difficulty finding good fresh dining locally Sadly unable to recommend it to anyone
The staff are the hotel's best asset. Exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and the restaurant supper was excellent. Great location, my room had access to a balcony where I could read in the sunshine with unrivalled views of the ocean.
The only downside for me was the very slow and variable wifi.
The food at The Wellington Hotel is wonderful. We intended to eat out but had all our evening meals in the restaurant - absolutely fabulous! We've piled on the pounds and will have to do some serious exercise before we visit again! The staff were all very helpful. The chef even popped up to Reception to tell us what delights he was planning for the evening menu. We loved the view of Ventnor Bay from our balcony - enjoying a glass of wine as we watched the moon reflect on the sea......
Our only criticism is the parking, but I'm afraid there's limited parking all over the isle of Wight during summer months! The Wellington Hotel does have some private parking and there is a public car park nearby, so not a huge issue.
Wi-Fi connection could be better.
The staff were helpful and pleasant, the bar was clean and tidy including the breakfast area and sheet and towels were clean.
The room was worn and very unclean, there was loads of dust and dirt under the bed and down the side of the cabinets, there was cobwebs, the windows were painted shut and only a few were able to open as the paint had been unstuck, the bathroom had a very strong smell of mould and was unpleasant, I also found a used condom wrapper a drawer.
Beautiful view from balcony. Great to hear the waves at night. Friendly waitresses. Good central location
Evening meal was OK but rather expensive.
the place was incredible, the staff was professional and helpful, great breakfast with beautiful view,
Wonderful room and balcony with superb views. All the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfasts and dinners very good.
