Quirky old rooms, generally well adapted for guests. Public areas have a sense of history.

Swimming pool is a nice addition, but looks a little tired.

location-wise it was excellent as we needed to be across the road at the town hall for a civil partnership. The room was spacious and reasonably quiet which I had requested due to me having a neurological problem. Staff very helpful and this was especially so on Saturday night when I had a slight episode due to my Parkinson's. Breakfast was fine and plentiful. Tables cleared quickly by any member of staff that happened to be passing and saw an empty plate that had been put to one side and obviously finished with

floors creaked quite a lot but that is to be expected in an old building. Bathroom layout was a bit odd in that I would replace the oversized corner bath as it took up far too much space and the side of the bath was a touch high

    Location, room decor

Not much sound insulation, bed puts you very close to guests in corridor. In the original part of the building the walls aren't square and the floors aren't flat, which gives it plenty of character. But my bed sloped at five degrees, at least, from right to left, which made me feel as if I was falling out during the night (and on my own). Maybe they could put blocks under one side to level it?

The charm of the building and the great breakfast provided.

The lack of a lift and the heat in the bedroom necessitating the use of the fan provided.

The hotel was in a good location, good food, has character and the staff were very helpful, the views from the roof terrace were beautiful.

The only thing we found a bit annoying was the room we had was in the annex at the back and it was the area some of the staff used to use for cigarette breaks which is fine but not at 5am

Very central in Lewes and close to the station, this is an old coaching inn with an annexe. Our room in the annexe was spacious with a good bathroom (bath and shower). Excellent breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the Downs

The hotel has been considerably smartened up since I was last here. There are still a few areas that could do with tidying or refurbishment. Steep slope to the annexes would not suit the disabled.

Location, staff friendliness, restaurant service, super breakfast!

Room 23 too small and very hot. No air conditioning! We asked to change rooms and were given the larger room no.70. Karen in reception was excellent and we were pleased with the room change. Slept much better the second night!

The location and ambience f the White Heart is lovely and old coaching inn with plenty of history.

Sadly the staff and the state of repair lets this beautiful hotel down badly

Very nice large room in annexe. Lots of storage for clothes. Good hospitality tray with biscuits and tea and coffee. Lovely selection of toiletries. Excellent Full English breakfast in Restaurant. Reception looked after my luggage while I had breakfast Will definitely stay there again.

Room very warm due to weather ( hot sun, followed by heavy rain with hailstones!) Rooms need a table-top plug in fan.

The lovely chap at reception who made ever effort to welcome me.

The surly staff (over-heard one young English member of staff refusing to wipe clean a table by the manager) and uncomprehending foreign staff. The room had mould and staining. Last designed in the 1980s and really looking beyond tired. Ugly 80s compilation of buildings all needing to be up-dated.

    Good location.

Seemed understaffed and very tired. In serious need of a revamp. Swimming pool area bit of a health hazard. The sauna was cold and the steam room smelt like someone had died in it. Not exactly cheap.
