Staff and food good
Disappointed with room, tired and worn.unable to empty the very small bath, had to report it to staff.torn carpet and broken tiles.
The whole place I like and the food was great
The only thing is that there is not a lift has my husband has Copd and got breathless walking up the stairs
Efficiency, range of basic facilities, Sunday lunch, value for money
Pool needs a scrub, room for improvement of changing rooms and showers
The only positive was the friendly & polite staff
I could go on for ages...but the easiest thing to say, if you can avoid staying here do it. It's a time warp, and not in a good way!!!!
The staff were friendly on our arrival and able to answer any questions. Although we did not use the spa facilities, they did look very inviting! The general dining/drinking areas were very lovely with some beautiful fireplaces! Breakfast was a real plus!! Plenty on offer, hot and cold buffets to suit everyone! Our room was very large with some beautiful views over sussex!
Our room ead mostly clean however some lime scale remover could have been used in the bathroom as well as a a more thorough cleaning corners where dust seems to be mounting up! The bed was also a bit uncomfortable, great size but the mattress has clearly had better days as you could feel te springs an the base through it!
Everything with the hotel was great we had a fabulous time weather was good to us too.
Breakfast was excellent
The shower was freezing.
Venue for function good.
I can honestly say there was nothing to like about this hotel
It was very dirty, out dated, service was poor, breakfast especially mushrooms served with peppercorns and scrambled egg looked like some one had been sick. carpets thread bare, smoke detectors de activated. Bed had springs coming out of it. Noisy party until 12 at night management refused to deal with it. Pictures on website are not true pictures of the venue. Spoilt our weekend
Staff friendly and helpful, historic building.
Dinner tasty but overpriced; portions small.
The log fire, and the old building. Also the pool.
Evening meal in the hotel not very good.
Beautiful hotel with a lovely character! Very charming room with great breckfast, excellent value for money :) x
Beautifully cooked breakfast, clean room, location.
We went into the bar and there was no staff. We also asked a member of the staff in the dining room for afternoon tea and he told us he was busy and it would take 10 mins to take our order. Also there were no scones left imply cheese ones and this was 3pm in the afternoon.
The hotel has some classic features and seating areas
It mentions a spa. Unfortunately I was really disappointed by it. The changing area was really basic and messy. The tiny hot tub really wasn't hot at all. I had to go back to my room and warm up in a bath.
Great to stay in historic hotel that is family run and not part of a chain. A warm and friendly hotel!
It has a charm consistent with its 17th Century age with some sympathetic (although shabby) fixtures and fittings. Excellent location and priced consistently with the standards offered. On balance I liked it and went back repeatedly over a couple of months.
Some rooms not so good as others and the Annex shows a lack of refurbishment over decades. No wifi in the rooms, unless you are adjacent to a lounge and limited in the older public areas. Menu is limited and the chef likes pepper too much. Has the potential to be so much better, but would then charge accordingly.
An excellent location in the centre of the historic town of Lewes. A good breakfast eaten in a sunny conservatory. Use of a swimming pool.
Very old and tired looking furnishings. The hotel needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to the standards that people now expect.
Quiet at night and comfortable room. When we could not get a taxi the staff helped us carry our luggage down the hill so we would not miss our train!!
I stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is tired and in need of a big facelift. This would be fine but my first night room stank of old frying fat- so much that I woke up in the middle of the night several times. I moved for night 2 to the 1970s annexe where the door didn't quite seem securely locked and the alarm had been tripped so buzzed all night. After dropping off, I was woken by my neighbours who, although not shouting by any means, appeared to be in my room!
Swimming pool and location
Its very run down needs alot of tlc. Bed very uncomfortable.
Location good and breakfast good. Hotel atmospheric if a bit shabby.
Car park entrance narrow and on steep slope. If the car park is full (as it was for us) extremely difficult to manoeuvre out of.
Breakfasts excellent, location, access to car from rooms for dogs perfect from lower annex. Shower hot, room fine, Harveys on pump, good bar and lounge area. Would definitely visit again.
The bed had broken reported to staff, car park uncontrolled barrier constantly up so restricted access to room. Shower room compact!
WE stayed in a four-poster bedroom, in the historic part of the hotel. The Room was excellent, we particularly liked the wooden beams. The fact that hotel had an on-site pool was a major bonus. The location, right at the heart of Lewes, was good too.
Elements of the decor were a little 1980s-tastic!
the hotel was easy to find with a car park around the back. however if we arrived later there wouĺd have been no where to park. bed was comfortable and clean like the rest ofthe room and bathroom. breakfast was delicious and staff were helpful and friendly.
the tea provided in the room my friend said it tasted funny and the biscuits provided were a bit chewy or off. rooms were lovely n warm for d kids although there was no option in the room to turn it down apart from opening the window
