Legacy White Hart HotelHigh Street, BN7 1XE Lewes (Show map) Review score 6.9 Score from 288 reviews“Easy access to town centre food was very lovely staff very friendly and professional”
Tracey,
Bradford
A former 16th century traveler's inn, this hotel rests in the heart of the picturesque and historic Lewes, offering modern facilities while keeping its old world charm. Rich with history, the hotel is known as the cradle of American Independence, where Thomas Paine forged his radical policies in the debating club of the old inn. His pamphlet "Common Sense" sold half a million copies in 1776 and inspired the Declaration of Independence, signed later that year. Wood paneling, oak beams and open fireplaces all create a welcoming atmosphere. The White Hart Hotel has been substantially developed to offer a health club, restaurant and lounges for guests and locals alike. Hotel Rooms: 52, Hotel Chain: Legacy Hotels.

Architecture, History, Location, Spa Facilities (if the swimming pool was open) The fact that our main reason for booking this particular hotel was to enjoy the swimming pool. It was closed.

Staff were all helpful. Breakfast was good and I appreciated the use of Fairtrade tea/coffee/sugar in the bedrooms. Very well located 5 min walk from the staion and right in the centre of Lewis.Good views from the dining room of the surrounding hills. Although the room was a single it had a double bed and was larger than many singles. The age of the building had great charm but furniture and furnishings generally faded and scruffy. Bed sqeaked dreadfully when ever I turned over. Room was very hot despite windows being open and there was a smell of drains in the bathroom. No lift so I had to carry a heavy suitcase up two flights of stairs.

The food quality at breakfast was good. Not a stick of soap or shampoo in the room and off hand staff. I paid my bill at 0730 then when leaving at 0800 the member of staff who had taken payment asked me if I had paid my bill. In other words there was a lack of investment in staff training.

Convenience of location right in the town. Breakfast good and now the new owners have started to use the conservatory the restaurant is light and airy. The new owners have begun to make improvements. They take dogs and made no extra charge. The price of the room We stayed in the annexe. It is very dated and our room was in poor state of repair with trailing flexes for the kettle etc draped over the radiator, pieces missing from the carpet. The bed was very, very uncomfortable tThe ensuite was the smallest I have encountered, barely 3 feet deep so the door lock bashed onto the vanity unit. You had to squeeze in and shut the door before you were able to get Iround to the toilet. The shower was fine though.

The location and the friendly staff Our room was on a slant so i Kept rolling to one side in bed. Everything was basic and could do with a refurb, but then I suppose the rates would go up. As long as its clean....

The location The hotel had a faded look about it, and could probably do with an update with the decor and furnishing. We had booked a double room in the hotel, but when we arrived we had been booked a twin room in the annex. I felt this was misleading as the annex was down a steep slope in a modern building, so would not have met our expectations of a stay. We complained to the duty manager, Francis, who was very understanding and obliging and changed our room, albeit to a twin, in the main hotel. She also provided us with a drink at the bar.

The staff, reception, dining room and spa, were professional yet friendly. Cooked breakfast was good. Room was a bit dated but comfortable enough for one night. Lot of noise as room (23) was facing the front street.

The staff were great and breakfast was good The bed was so uncomfortable it hurt. The room sloped and your cup would slide of the table. There was only one elect pulg in the whole room and the lights fused when turning on the kettle. The spare pillows had used pillow cases on them. And the fire works in the street (bangers on the 12 nov) kept us awake all night it was like being in a war zone- not the hotels problem we know- would stay in Lewes again but not here.

Perfect location, good breakfasts, has character. Staff seemed a little tired as was the room with its 70s pink bathroom suite. Busy hotel but quiet at night.

We had stayed at the hotel a number of times in the past but this will be the last! Previously we had stayed in the main building which is old, quirky and full of character. This time we were put in the 'anexe' which was a poor quality, poorly maintained copy of a premier inn. A change of ownership has also seen a change in the restaurant and sadly not for the better! Oh and now they charge a surcharge for credit card payments!

The location was convenient for visiting family nearby. Very shabby and in dire need of updating. Musty smell in room and bed seemed to have very little in the way of springs!

It was an experience to stay in a very old hotel, with slopping floors in our very cosy bedroom, many original features, yet the other areas were full of light and bright, and gorgeous views of snowy hills. We were there on probably the coldest night for a long time, everything was being done for our warmth as possible. One member of staff organised an 'under the pillow ' Fire Alerter for my use, when she became aware that I was profoundly deaf. Brilliant. The spa masseur was excellent. All staff were very friendly and professional. The tea was very weak. The pool was closed. The curtains on the second floor landing were filthy.

I have to say - I base this Questionairre on my first night at the hotel where I was in room 53 in the annex. It was horrible, needs a serious re-furb, and smelt really odd (I had to sleep with my head under the sheets) I only booked with then again as there was no where else available and then had a brilliant room (27) in the main hotel which was the polar opposite - lovely bathroom and bags of character. So if I booked again and I might have to I would insist on room 27 or similar. Do something with the annex guys.
