“ Central in Lewis-the little touches that make a difference, very quiet, great breakfast, friendly & helpful. ”

Coventry, Uk
A former 16th century coaching inn, this hotel rests in the heart of the picturesque and historic Lewes, offering modern facilities whilst keeping its old world charm. Rich with history, the hotel is known as the cradle of American Independence, where Thomas Paine forged his radical policies in the debating club of the old inn. His pamphlet "Common Sense" sold half a million copies in 1776 and inspired the Declaration of Independence, signed later that year. Wood panelling, oak beams and open fireplaces all create a welcoming atmosphere. The White Hart Hotel has been substantially developed to offer a leisure club, restaurant and lounges for guests and locals alike. Hotel Rooms: 52, Hotel Chain: Legacy Hotels. The most recent booking for this hotel was made on 25 May at 17:20 from United Kingdom.

Experienced lots of good changes in the reception & service level than I stayed there during my 4/5 visits to Lewes especially around 2 years earlier. Now I found more friendly staff than earlier. Hope they will maintain same level when I stay thete next time. Nothing bad except they should go for digital TV rather well small screen TV set on Table.

The Location was great , the food was consistently excellent and the helpfullness of the staff are memorable. I requested a quite room and thats what I received. The room in the roof of the attic was very hot despite having a window open, the bed was mature and therefore saggy and the shower was faulty allthough this was explained as user error . The television signal was inconsistent. Staff informed me that the signal was going to be fixed. I think the rooms need to be refurbished - the room price reflects the quality of room so pay your money and take your choice

Central location, original building, wifi in main hotel, breakfast choice. Annexe, smell in lobby, no sound insulation, can hear normal conversation and toilet noises from rooms around and above, floorboards creak at every step, bed not very comfortable. 12" CRT tv with 5 channel freeview box didn't work for more than a few minutes at a time. No wifi. Parking for about 15 cars for 50 + rooms. Breakfast choice good but taken in conservatory which is shabby and in need of a good spring clean.

Great location and value for money. Staff really friendly and helpful, and a relaxed atmosphere. A quirky old-world style that we kind of liked. The bed was too squidgy in room 42 to get much sleep and everywhere was in need of a revamp, but overall we got good value so we were very happy.

The staff were really helpful and the hotel itself was great. Our room was small but lovely and the hotel was full of character. There was a very nice terrace and the breakfast was fantastic. Really enjoyed our stay in the white hart and would definitely recommend it. We liked everything!

Public rooms were good and the breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice. Rooms very shabby, really need refurbishing. All the underside of the bed was hanging on the floor, although it was very comfortable.TV Didn't work, took 2 members of staff to get it going. Unable to work the shower .

Price - you get what you pay for The Front of house - old part. Gym and Spar etc... Breakfast. Freindly staff. Run down rooms. Television not working even reported it but no 'action' a porter who tells you that he agrees with you (re Tele) but says owners are not willing to put any more money into the hotel! H&S dangerous metal steps from Sun terrace to outside rooms. Bottom car park full of debris.

A lovely friendly hotel. Building has amazing traditional character and a contemporary side too, so suits all. Buffet breakfast is very good and room tea and coffee facilities very generous. Shower in room was basically hopeless and reported to reception on leaving.

Location Bed in room 42 was very soft like sleeping on marshmallows. Impossible tp have a good night's sleep on it. Bathroom - door wouldn't close - cistern gets in the way and you can only flush by putting deat down. In sum poor design and no investment in decent beds. I told the receptionist in the morning to advise the manager.

I really liked the breakfast I enjoyed the character of the building & the lovely view of the South Downs The staff were friendly & helpful and I felt comfortable. The parking area was difficult to get out of once you realised there weren't any spaces. Lots of cheap long stay parking in North Street.

The room we were moved to The room we were moved from. We booked a period hotel with spa and pool facilities for the one night of my birthday, unfortunately coinciding with a funeral in Lewes we were attending the same day. The room we were directed to was in an ugly separate building behind the hotel with no adjoining area to the spa (ie: had to walk through the car park in order to access pool etc.) Fortunately after ado we were moved to an adequate space

Location and breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. Awfully old fashioned and the "lodge" is desperate for a refurb. The car park at the very rear is a nightmare with concrete blocks to scrape your car on. Yucky blanket instead of duvet. Bathroom smelled horrible. Bed sagged and rocked on its old legs. I could go on and on.
