Set on 1100 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, this AA 4-star hotel has excellent recreational facilities and luxury rooms with stunning views of the 2 championship golf courses.
Score from 233 reviews Wonderful
On the seafront in the heart of Brighton's 'Lanes', this friendly hotel has a pool, gym and free Wi-Fi. It is well located for nightlife, restaurants and the beach.
Score from 2421 reviews Good
In historic Lewes, this 16th-century townhouse has been tastefully restored to create a stylish hotel and conference center, mixing elegance, history and modern design.
Score from 422 reviews Very good
Price was reasonable
Although the hotel was clean it desperately needs upgrading
4 Poster bed and the tilting floors. Doors locks need updating - long keys difficult to operate in old locks. Difficult to read a book or paper on the furniture & with the old fashioned lights if bulbs work. If updated I would recommend other travellers.
Loved the beams, old wood doors, big key for the room. Also, very helpful staff and good food.
A tricky drive onto the High Street after the stay, but remember this was a coaching inn and should be as it was, traffic-wise! Really, no problems; it would have been nice to stay longer!
We really enjoyed our swim in the hotel pool - it was both relaxing and refreshing. The food was good and we had a pleasant stroll round Lewes town centre; just step out the door and turn right!
Staff and food
The room was small cramp and uncomfortable
Location was ideal for Brighton and Newhaven
Room was connected to next door, so sound proofing was non existent.
I liked the location the views the gym and the staff were generally helpful
The food was cold and the tea was stewed
Location great - very cosy and comfortable !
In need of some repairs and redecoration
Location was very good for what we wanted to do in Lewes. Rooms and service also good. Value for money
Not the hotel's fault, but as it is a very old building, the floors were very creaky and they also slope in various places which makes it difficult to walk on.
Free parking Good breakfast helpful staff fantastic view over the south downs.
Wonky shower head Low water pressure in shower. Hairdryer low down under a table.
The food and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Location is excellent. Staff are extremely helpful at the desk. Facilities eg pool and gym very good. Breakfast is served quietly and restaurant has wonderful views.
Our bathroom needed updating , but the room was fine.
The hotel was central to everything we wanted to see in Lewes. We enjoyed looking at all the antiques in the hotel and found the room very amusing in a historical style.
I found the room a little basic and bit overly warm and stuffy and thought it slightly over priced.
Location, Car Park and 'querkiness'.
Poor TV reception and very small TV No facilities for electric shavers
Friendly and helpful staff, perfect central Lewes location, excellent breakfast, comfortable 4 poster bed, dated yet adequate pool and sauna complex, free parking.
Tired decor, squeaky floors, dated pool area, overall in need of some TLC.
Location great. Beautiful old building and rooms. Not a bad breakfast.
There's something amiss: badly stocked bar, staff don't seem all that happy. No internet in the room: come in, it's 2014 and not hard to achieve, even in such an old building.
Quirky old fashioned feel, high street location
Slightly down at heel decoration for reasonably high price.
I loved the olde worlde feel with wooden beams and the staff who tried so hard to make our stay a comfortable one. The room is small but comfortable. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful. Great gym and pool. This is so much better than the chains of hotels and you will enjoy if you understand this is a very old historic building.
Breakfast Selection Gym Facilities Car Parking Ales on tap
Musky smell Dated decorations Unsecure windows and patio doors Stained Carpets Cobwebs in the corner of the room No Wifi connection Bathrooms can be heard of other guests
The location was very good with the added bonus of private parking. A building with a lot of history. A four poster bed. Well cooked food at breakfast and dinner and well presented in a nice dining room. Very helpful staff. Spa facilities
Quite noisy at the front of building. The lock to our room was difficult to use. Some parts of hotel could benefit from an update.
Breakfast was superb Efficient check-in Characterful room On site parking
Lane to car park narrow
great character we have been going to the White Hart for many years
place needs more general maintenance
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I had previously requested and had confirmed, 2 adjacent rooms in the annexe. When we arrived we had been allocated 2 rooms on different floors in the old building.
Super location in the middle of Lewes. Good parking, friendly staff. We didn't use the leisure facilities, but they are a definite asset. Good variety of rooms available for afternoon tea, drinks etc. Conservatory was a plus, although it could have done with a bit of a freshen up, especially the drapes on the ceiling! Comprehensive buffet breakfast, including both hot and cold options.
Felt that there was a lot of missed opportunity. Location of hotel should have a made it a showpiece hotel, but it generally felt a bit tired. Drapes in conservatory were very dirty and detracted from what should have been a super space. Lewes is well known for its live music, with many pubs in the town offering this at least one night a week - could this have been an added attraction. Generally needs a bit of brightening up - water damaged pictures, stained carpets don't help. We kept losing the signal on the TV in the bedroom, which was frustrating. Room also got very warm at night with little option of increasing air circulation. Didn't really feel like a nearly £100 a night room.
Quirky old rooms, generally well adapted for guests. Public areas have a sense of history.
Swimming pool is a nice addition, but looks a little tired.
