This 17th century stone country inn is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the ancient and unspoiled village of Grittleton. Grittleton is situated a few miles off junction 17 of the M4.

Score from 87 reviews Very good
Very comfortable bed, big bathroom, peaceful location. Didn't eat on this occasion but food and beer were good on previous visit.
Staff don't answer the phone when you ring.
location food rooms peaceful
Excellent rooms, clean, great towels, great pillows, fab water pressure, great wi-fi coverage, lovely staff in restaurant.
Boilers disturbing nights sleep
Quiet location with gurgle of the stream, comfort, excellent food, friendly staff
Excellent service. Great real ale. Good evening meal.
The blocked drains need to be sorted out: the smell of sewage outside was awful! The ventilation of the old room wasn't good. Not air-conditioned. It would be uncomfortable on a warm night.
menu in restaurant could do with lite bites and simpler choices
The whole experience was as we hoped for.
There was a whiff of sewage on the night we arrived but all gone in the morning. So not a real problem.
The staff were excellent - helpful and friendly. Breakfast is fantastic, even if you only have the continental! We would recommend this Inn for its location and for the marvellous hospitality.
The Inn was easy to confuse with the other White Hart, which is less than a couple of miles away and actually in the village of Castle Combe. The Inn is actually in FORD. Still gorgeous, but embarrassing to arrive at the wrong one with a full bar and luggage in hand! There were quite big damp patches on the wall of Truckle Room, (side of the TV), but hopefully staff are aware of this issue already. Could put some clients off.
Surprising location, old Inn style place, brilliant staff, food and ale good enough, accommodation adequate. Had the cooked breakfast option, not brilliant value, but hearty enough to keep you going. The wildlife by the stream is stunning if you are lucky enough, I managed to see a what I suspect was a Kingfisher darting its way along the bank. Was away from home for only 36 hours but it felt like a good relaxing break, We will probably go back just for the fun of it.
Noisy guests arriving at 04:20, and taking a while to settle, creaky upstairs floors and the sounds of doors and plumbing, just poor soundproofing and late guests. I suppose it is just the luck of the draw.
You could tell upon arrival that we were going to enjoy our stay here. Beautiful decor, friendly staff and the restaurant looked cosy. Had a lovely meal in the evening with yummy food and a totally relaxed stay.
Sound proofing in the room is the only thing I can fault but due to the age of the building I'm not sure if this can be improved. We were in the coach house so may be worth checking if the rooms in the main hotel are any better. I think we were just unlucky in that we had an inconsiderate couple come back late and talk really loudly for over an hour. Wouldn't put me off going back.
Everything in the room and bathroom is very well designed and thought out, to the smallest detail, making it beautiful. We had a very comfortable stay. Setting is beautiful too.
Accessibility difficult without a car. Also, no phone in room to ring reception and it takes a few attempts for staff to pick up your call..
Noise from other rooms.
Setting. Dining area was lovely
Dreadful smell from nearby river? Could not leave windows open in the bedroom because of it. Breakfast not very inspiring
Location was stunning and food great.
Room was converted barn(?), but still shouldn't have damp walls. Clock broken. Only continental breakfast included. When we stayed the septic tank/drains were in need of emptying - a bit of a pong!
Food was good Service was excellent ,staff very friendly and helpfull Exteria of Inn charming
Terrible smell of sewage through out the hotel Had to sleep with our window closed,it rained in the night and water leaked in on our case. No place to put your soap in the shower no toilet spray. Poor quality furnishings in bedroom Not well sign posted as it's located off the main road
The shortbread biscuits. Bed linen and nicely decorated bathroom. Gardens and outside areas very attractive.
Noisy creaking floorboards from the room above and a noisy coded main door next to our room. Beds seemed unusually small. Dinner served on wooden blocks.
Nice toiletries, fresh coffee in the room, nice linen. Excellent value for money. Have paid twice as much in similar locations. Enjoyed good food at dinner in a picturesque location
Noise from kitchen door below room, constantly banging during evening until closing time and again at 7am
The pub was excellent and the room was very clean and comfortable.
The room down stairs smelt like sewage.
Very nice and cosy inn with touch of long history. Food was very good. Staff nice and helpfull.
Only disadvantage is that food offered for breakfast was really limited
Atmosphere, staff, room was nicely equipped and food was good. Very picturesque
Advertised as "Ford, Castle Combe" it is not in Castle Combe!! The bed and room were very comfy but we were constantly woken by the noise of either a pump or boiler which was noisy and could be heard quite clearly at different times through the night. I liked the hotel but this would possibly prevent me from staying again.....I did mention on checking out and was told "sorry about that" but no goodwill offer of a reduction which was disappointing!!
clean, tidy room and obviously recently refurbished. Good sized bathroom.
No drawer space - had to leave most clothes in travel bag. Bed was to firm for us which affected our sleep.
Friendliest staff in the history of hotels. Excellent location Rooms well-decorated
Unstable WIFI, but passable Continental breakfast leaves a little to be desired
The country setting was out of this world. Food was excellent in resteraunt
lovely seating inside and out . The room we had was full of lovely touches ,homemade biscuits to ground coffee in a little jar . White company toiletries also .
Food was a bit disappointing but staff gave great service and the atmosphere was good .
