Rooms are nice, location is good
Breakfast not served, we we're told when we arrived that because we were the only guests staying it was not worth them serving breakfast. When we discussed with the staff member checking us in, they said they were not proper hotel and there would be no one around to provide breakfast. We tried to check out at 9.45am and there were no staff to be seen. There was a sign on the reception desk with a number to call, which we did to be told that there would be no one around until 10am. As we were hungry we needed to leave so we're told to leave our room on the desk and see ourselves out! We expressed our disatisfaction however the person we were speaking with did not appear to agree that this was no way to run a Hotel (even if it not a proper hotel!!)
Confortable stylish rooms over a busy pub right in the centre of town on a smart street. We would like to return in Summer for a longer stay. Food was good quality using fresh ingredients. Pub has good decor and had a very buzzy atmosphere.
Wine list could have been a bit more extensive. Parking may be a problem other than on a Sunday evening.
Well appointed room, reasonable size above a busy pub.
No breakfast was available in the morning of the night we stayed.
Room good sized, bathroom and room clean. Staff helpful but very busy looking after pub regulars and christmas diners.
Not a top rate hotel, more of a good pub with rooms
Great place to stay and staff is fantastc. The tavern is a hot spot and you meet many locals in the evenings. Food is very good and just a few minute walk to major shopping area.
This place is not for the geriatric crowd as the stairs are narrow and steep. No elevator. This is not a problem for most just note this.
Old fashioned bar Walk in shower
Standard rooms tiny No-one at reception which you cant get to without a staff member, as is upstairs and you have to have a code to gain access to residence upstairs when you arrive Bar shuts sharp at 11pm No parking aside pay and display outside
I'm not a fan of big chains so this hotel was a good option for me and didn't disappoint. It was the right amount of quirky. Room was small but had all that was needed and the staff did go out their way to offer a service they wouldn't normally so great customer service.
Was woken up very early by the constant sound of bin men. Obviously not the hotels fault but a consequence of being in the location it is. It has a lot of good points but the odd not so good too.
It's in the middle of lots of things to do ie drinking, eating, cinema and shopping. Lovely rooms with everything you need :)
When checking out there is never anyone at the desk which is upstairs from the bar, so it's a case of trecking down to the bar to ask for someone to come up and sign you out which is a little anoying (have stayed here a few times, every time has been the same!) could do with a better system or realise people check out in the morning so someone needs to be at the desk!! Also didn't like the fact that people's information was on display via paper work and computer!!!
Set in a lively road, with great atmosphere. Our room was big and decorated beautifully, with all the extra little touches we needed, from a comfy bed and beautiful roll topped bath and seperate shower, to a iPod docking station and tea and coffee. The staff made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be returning again.
Great room, wonderful location and very attentive staff
The hotel is above a pub. The background noise from the downstairs music is loud enough to be a problem if on one of the lower floor rooms. Music stops at 11.
Restaurant food excellent as always, though service impersonal and hurried.
Our fourth annual visit, but no one knew that, feels like it has lost it's personal touch. Rooms feel a bit tired now, and the windows don't open. Nothing special, and at a price.
Location and ambience Food was good and staff helpful
No Elevator on premises
Loved everything. .travel all the time..can't wait to return. If you like history you'll love this hotel
The hotel and the restaurant are both very nice! The staff is so friendly and and well organised!
The WiFi in my room wasn't really good.
Good quality boutique hotel with lively pub/restaurant and good quality food. Plenty of bars & restaurants just steps away. Overall very good stay - exceptional weather for time of year helped!
Room was hot & stuffy even at the end of Oct, although good fan provided.
Cleanliness. Friendly and accomodating staff. Close to amenities. Excellent Food.
The room was noisy on a Saturday night with the pub music below.
We liked the people.
Excellent food, friendly staff, comfortable room. Was surprised how quiet and peaceful it was despite being on busy street above a noisy pub - no disturbances at all.
Room was overheated with no way of adjusting
Rooms refurbished in early 2014 to a high standard, everything tidy, quality with comfy bed. Food excellent, staff friendly and went the extra mile. Highly recommended,
The fact that it was a very old building; It was furnished in keeping with the age. The staff were great carrying my heavy bags.
Really narrow stairs and no elevator.
Excellent staff and food
Can be noisy with bar /restaurant beneath
Comfortable and clean
A bit expensive for what you get
the room was well designed and furnished with a nice en-suite .
the heating system was not controllable resulting in needing to open the windows to cool the room ( not ideal in a city centre location ).
All staff were incredible. All helpful and nothing was a problem. Great having the half pint cartons of milk for tea/coffee in the rooms.
Narrow steep stairs.
