Score from 253 reviews Good
Friendly staff, good quiet location, choice of beers and good food.
Temporary wifi, rooms suffered from noise from bar - but this was turned off at 11 pm
Location and views to the coast from patio.
Old and tatty carpets in main entrance, on stairs to accommodation and in the tiny bedrooms. Creaking bed and weak shower. Poor management overall - meant poor service from some staff; food poorly cooked and presented. Despite this a couple of staff were trying hard to please.
Outside space. Atmosphere. Great staff, Real Ale!
Size of the bed
Friendly new owners and staff, very helpful and attentive. Comfortable bed, had a great night sleep. Breakfast was one of the highlights, absolutely delicious.
First Class Service
friendly staff could not fault anything
Staff friendly and helpful, bar and garden gorgeous - lovely place to sit and enjoy a drink. Stunning scenery and near cliff walk.
Rooms, decor in need of freshen up.
I literally couldn't find fault with this wonderful place! The bar staff, kitchen staff, cleaners and new owners are simply terrific. The pub/restaurant is gorgeous and homely, the food is out of this world, the rooms were lovely and comfortable with the cleaning staff doing a fantastic job each day. Even simple little touches like putting our children's soft toys on the pillows, pyjamas at the end of the bed etc. The bar staff are very bright, friendly and cater to your every need and you couldn't find a nicer couple than the new owners who have done a fantastic job already at bringing this place off the ground. The hotel overlooks stunning views of the coast, there is a great kids play area at the end of the extensive beer garden and the hotel is well situated for peace and quiet, buses, country walks, a village green shop and cafe and a short walk to Blackgang Chine for lots of family fun. Will certainly be coming back next year!
I'm usually very critical of hotels but I'm pleased to say it's very hard to find fault with this little gem!
Friendly welcome, Clean Rooms beds made and towels changed every day. Great location for exploring the Island. Play area for the Children. Good food, plenty of choice for breakfast. with food served all day.
Wouldn't say room was really suitable for family of 4 bit of a squeeze. Our room had a single sofa bed and a camp bed (at the foot of the double bed) for the children not what i would class as a 'family room'. Couldn't connect to the temperamental Wi-fi
The food was excellent, aside from an apparent inability to cook a poached egg with a soft yolk.
The rooms were shabby and in dire need of some TLC. The bed was very uncomfortable with a massive dip in the middle
Staff and new owners are lovely, very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing
Bed a little uncomfortable, creaked each time we moved! Buses to chale village stopped at 6pm which was inconvenient
The staff couldn't do enough for you, they were very helpful nothing was to much trouble, there was a good selection for breakfast, from cereal's to full English with good veggie option's. There was a 1 hour wait for food Sunday evening, we couldn't wait as we had to meet friends, but looking at the dishes coming out of the kitchen you could see why it is such a popular place to eat. I agree with a previous review, they don't need to change anything downstairs, but the Inn part does need a lot of TLC, hopefully the new management will take this on, if they do, it would become the complete package.
The mattress was so thin you could feel the slats of the bed base through it, possibly the worst nights sleep in a hotel
Room cleanliness, blocked shower.
Great bar Lovely staff Good food
Rooms need serious upgrade. To be fair the new owners are planning to do this but perhaps a reduction in the price may have been appropriate. Too many children.
The location was good and the staff were very helpful.
On arrival, although confirmed by Booking.com for 2 nights, advised by hotel only had reservation for 1 night. Didn't like having to move rooms and unpack and repack, used up valuable time of our very short break. Second room wasn't as suitable as the first room for travelling with young children. Bathrooms could do with being updated.
The staff were really friendly and helpfu. The pub was nice with good food. The rooms were fine.
Breakfast didn't start till 8.30am, which is far too Kate if you are there on business or have a young family. The hoovering of the pub also took place at the same time. Very poor wifi, but I understand that is due to be improved.
Very polite staff, food was good. Room was comfortable.
Bed was hard, shower was poor.
Hour wait for food Ditty bedrooms Moth eated carpets in hotel part No A/C
The staff were lovely and very obliging. They readily found accommodation for our bikes and even travelled to Godshill next day to return my keys to me which I had left in the room! Breakfast was excellent and we had a good evening meal. There was a family friendly atmosphere.
The room smelt musty, probably caused by the windows which need replacing. It gave the room a down at heel feel although the furniture was new and the bed comfortable.
Facilities for children travelling with us( staying at a different venue) .Child and Adult friendly staff
The rooms and building are in need of an upgrade, they appear tired.
Very friendly staff (they work very hard) excellent meals, very accommodating landlord/lady, lovely restaurant, plenty to eat at breakfast, lovely sea view from bedroom. Cant fault downstairs at all 10 out of 10.
carpet in bedroom hadn't been hoovered, windowsill was dirty, bathroom and decor in room needs to be updated. wi-fi didnt work at all so couldn't use laptop, whilst having breakfast cleaner was hoovering around us in dining room and also hoovering the tables!! (goes against all my NVQ training) all of upstairs needs new carpets, updated bathrooms and a jolly good clean.
Location Friendly, welcoming staff Bedroom size Recently taken over and new owners have lots of plans for this lovely pub. We always stay here as excellent value for money on the island and perfect for a family with young children.
Bedrooms need updating, looking tired now. Really looking forward to the improvements new owners are hoping to make.
Breakfast was brilliant. Service from staff was friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Great play area for the kids though it was a shame the soft play area was closed.
Rooms were very tatty but clean. Shower kept going very hot and then cold and flooded the floor. Mattress and pillows were hard.
Plenty of car parking, attractive pub.
cobwebs all around window. Decoration very dated, threadbare carpets. Food unremarkable.
Great location, nice & caring staff..
