In the heart of the peaceful Cotswolds, this 16th-century inn is rich in original character, with a wood-beamed bar and restaurant. The historic town of Cirencester is just a 5-minute drive away.

Score from 16 reviews Wonderful
Restaurant and bar was exceptional. Good food, warm welcome.
Room was cold and decor was basic. Shower wasn't attached to wall so had to hold it. Wifi signal was not strong enough to reach to my room so had to use the lounge and bar. There was no O2 phone signal reception either. so needed the wifi.
The accommodation was good and also the hospitality of the staff.
Can improve the wifi in the rooms....very poor signal and nothing in the room.
What a lovely characterful place. Lovely staff, chilled atmosphere and excellent food. The place is full of character and loved that the floorboards were wonky and ceilings low etc. would definitely come again.
I think some of the reviews are unfair, ok, it's not absolutely spotless but it's a 400 year old building?! What do you expect!
The atmospheric bar and restaurant is quaint, quirky and charming. The meal we had was excellent too.
The Bathroom lacks luxury and the water system is not good but is perhaps understandable considering the age of the building. There is no room for pwer showers!
Quaint inn good food great choices of beer and wines
Delightful, well-stocked bar; nicely decorated dining-room; very wet so didn't explore interesting garden. Staff very amiable.
Loo didn't flush properly; shaving light didn't work; bathroom floor and tiles not very clean; bath too small for an adult.
Loved the bed, room very clean. Nice and warm on a cold night.
Didn't like the dark lampshades
Fantastic room. Really lovely staff. Superb evening meal.
Room was too hot (but they always are for me). Continental breakfast was unimaginative.
The hotel is only a ten minute drive from Cotswold Airport. This was perfect for me as I was working there on this trip. I stayed in room 9 which was clean with a comfortable bed. The tea and coffee making facilities were useful and replenished daily.
The food was excellent.
The rooms were terribly shabby and very cold. Not at all good value for money we would have been better in a B&B.
If you like old pubs, this one is great.
The building itself
Staff were scarce, bathroom was unusable, toilet was so close against the wall one had to sit on sideways, shower was a drip, and only god knows who put the tap attachment on the sink!!!
By booking on-line breakfast was not included although the guest information in the room indicates for the same price it is included. The inn has a great quirkiness but the folliage hung throughout the bar area was to say the least overdone.
Restaurant and bar ok
The rooms are nowhere worth the £110, they are outdated, particularly the bathroom which was disgusting, it needs gutting and completely renewing. My family stayed as well and agree with my comments. Do not stay there.
Really classic English pub
One of the locals in the bar with very loud voice, not a problem unless every other wood begins with F, not acceptable when can heard in restaurant, or anywhere else really!!!!
Food ok staff vey pleasant lots of character in the bar area, good selection of ales and wine.staff tried hard to please.
Bedrooms ground floor damp and dirty in need of refurb had to change rooms lucky there was availability shower water pressure none could go on for ever somebody spend some money on this cute little place.
Cosy pub atmosphere Food acceptable. Evening staff helpful. Breakfast staff untrained.
Bathroom was not just tatty and old but also dirty. It was not an acceptable standard. Kettle in room stood on the floor/carpet. Wifi not working in room number 3. Public toilet dirty.
Comfortable bed good location charm of building
No bottled water Poor shower facility Poor breakfast arrangements A poorly presented room for the price charge Not good value for money
The food was good. The staff were fairly pleasant and the restaurant quite atmospheric.
The room we stayed in was, however, a different story. It was definitely the worst we have ever had anywhere. The bedroom was tiny and dark. The lamps were not working and we had to get down on the floor under the bed to find sockets to plug them in. The bathroom was no bigger than a broom cupboard. There was no room for even a toilet paper holder. There were no hand towels. The sink was a round bowl and the tap was so low in it that even doing your teeth was an effort. You could not even fill the kettle with it. One had to try and reach round a glass screen and use the bath tap. There was no upright shower over the bath. It consisted of a tube wrapped round the taps. The water came out of the bath tap in a trickle and by the time you had run about four inches you gave up. We stayed one night and left feeling that we had been robbed.
No water for shower or bath
Lovely old building. Friendly Staff. Lots of character with beams and sloping floor. Very reasonable price. With a bit of work this could be a super inn/hotel
Extremely noisy beer garden and residents's lounge under our room. Room very scruffy with lights not working etc. Bathroom poor, with cupboard door not closing and no shower curtain. Would have like to try the restaurant but the reviews were so bad it put us off.
Room nicely decorated Busy and traditional bar area
Poor service from bar staff-obviously not trained Main course was poor
Toilet Seat was dirty and unpleasant and rooms need decorating Over-charged by £235 on check-out after a two night stay ! Awaiting reply and refund
Lack of cleanliness Water in kettle Chipped and broken tiles Poor attitude of staff Poor after sales General untidiness of the room Everything to do with the experience
The room was not clean. There was mould on the bathroom ceiling around the taps & the top of the bath panel was black. I emailed the wild duck with my concerns but no reply.
