Situated in one of Cirencester’s oldest streets, this delightful, privately owned hotel and restaurant boasts an oasis of tranquility just a 5 minute walk from the center of town.
Score from 179 reviews Very good
In the heart of the peaceful Cotswolds, this 16th-century inn is rich in original character, with a wood-beamed bar and restaurant. The historic town of Cirencester is just a 5-minute drive away.
Score from 383 reviews Excellent
With a lakeside setting in the middle of open countryside, this 4-star Cotswold hotel features a luxury spa and stylish rooms.
Score from 548 reviews Very good
Stratton House Hotel combines traditional elegance and style with modern amenities. The hotel is located close to the centre of Cirencester, the recognised 'capital' of the Cotswolds.
Score from 226 reviews Good
Room 9 the yellow room was nice and comfortable although a little smaller than the pictures suggested .
10% service charge in the restaurant was a bit cheeky as the table service was poor. Obviously a locals pub which made getting to the bar difficult.
I arrived at 11:30pm (before check-in closed at midnight) but there was no one around, the bar was locked up and no answer when I phoned. I was left completely stranded. When I phoned to complain the next day I was told in passing "they locked up early because there were no customers". The manager didn't return any of my calls over the next two days and I was actually charged for my night's stay! It took weeks to get a refund via booking.com and still no word of explanation or apology from the hotel. Absolutely disgusting!!
Dining room and bar - great atmosphere
Bedroom and bathroom not up- to scratch. Rooms in main building are great but in the modern bit - well, poor.
Staff, food, building.
No phone reception. Bathroom abit cramped.
Beautifully decorated/furnished, comfy bed. Friendly helpful staff
due to time if year it was cold although an electric heater was provided which warmed the room we had to have it on all night as was quite noisy. Only other thing was could have done with a bigger quilt on bed
Awful room, tired decor, cold & certainly not as described.
Central heating had broken down, shower not working and took 23 mins to run half a bath. Tv needed two controls to work and instructions on how to use would have been useful
Location and Building. Food was good. Staff were friendly and pleasant.
Bathroom not as clean as it could be. Decorative state very poor. Furnishing bizarre, out of character, and poor. Equipment ie. TV, Wifi, Light fittings, Telephone and plumbing all either broken missing worn out or badly maintained. The walls around the windows were devoid of paint and damp. The bedroom was overwarm the bathroom was unheated
Loved the location. Fabulous food, the bed was really comfortable, and refreshing not to be able to use technology, and just relax. Pefect hidden little gem.
Classic country inn feel and charm.
Lovely old country pub with good food
Wine left on the table unopened Given a soup spoon to eat dessert Pub toilets very grotty The bedroom was cramped and a bit grubby. Ridiculous sink in the bathroom- a poor effort to be modern and completely impractical
Because we arrived late on Christmas Day we only met the staff next morning. The arrangements to let ourselves in to the hotel were sufficient and we were pleasantly surprised about the size of the room. We took our two dogs and the location is great for a walking holiday and we wished we could have stayed longer
Terrific atmosphere of a traditional country pub and excellent food
Bathroom needs a bit of an upgrade but uderstand this is in progress.
Restaurant and bar was exceptional. Good food, warm welcome.
Room was cold and decor was basic. Shower wasn't attached to wall so had to hold it. Wifi signal was not strong enough to reach to my room so had to use the lounge and bar. There was no O2 phone signal reception either. so needed the wifi.
The accommodation was good and also the hospitality of the staff.
Can improve the wifi in the rooms....very poor signal and nothing in the room.
What a lovely characterful place. Lovely staff, chilled atmosphere and excellent food. The place is full of character and loved that the floorboards were wonky and ceilings low etc. would definitely come again.
I think some of the reviews are unfair, ok, it's not absolutely spotless but it's a 400 year old building?! What do you expect!
The atmospheric bar and restaurant is quaint, quirky and charming. The meal we had was excellent too.
The Bathroom lacks luxury and the water system is not good but is perhaps understandable considering the age of the building. There is no room for pwer showers!
Quaint inn good food great choices of beer and wines
Delightful, well-stocked bar; nicely decorated dining-room; very wet so didn't explore interesting garden. Staff very amiable.
Loo didn't flush properly; shaving light didn't work; bathroom floor and tiles not very clean; bath too small for an adult.
Loved the bed, room very clean. Nice and warm on a cold night.
Didn't like the dark lampshades
Fantastic room. Really lovely staff. Superb evening meal.
Room was too hot (but they always are for me). Continental breakfast was unimaginative.
The hotel is only a ten minute drive from Cotswold Airport. This was perfect for me as I was working there on this trip. I stayed in room 9 which was clean with a comfortable bed. The tea and coffee making facilities were useful and replenished daily.
The food was excellent.
The rooms were terribly shabby and very cold. Not at all good value for money we would have been better in a B&B.
If you like old pubs, this one is great.
The building itself
Staff were scarce, bathroom was unusable, toilet was so close against the wall one had to sit on sideways, shower was a drip, and only god knows who put the tap attachment on the sink!!!
