Next to Coniston Water, Waterhead Hotel has lawns running down to the lake shore and a restaurant with spectacular mountain views. The centre of Coniston is a 2-minute walk away.
Score from 146 reviews Very good
With stunning and exclusive panoramic views of Lake Windermere, this beautiful country house is set right on the lake’s shore.
Score from 103 reviews Fabulous
In the heart of the Lake District, The Sun Inn offers charming rooms with period features and free Wi-Fi. It is just moments away from the shores of Esthwaite Water.
Score from 158 reviews Very good
Rothay House is a guest house, set just off the main road and a 5-minute walk from Ambleside town centre.
Score from 180 reviews Fabulous
The rooms were very clean and the food was excellent. The staff were very helpful, as we needed an early breakfast on two mornings. Good range of beers.
Unfortunately, we stayed at a busy weekend with Coniston lake swim and also many other visitors enjoying the late summer weather. This did mean that the staff were stretched, but they were very polite and helpful.
Room quality and food
Few flies around but pub is out in country.
The relaxed atmosphere, that you can bring your dog with you and they can stay in your room and are allowed downstairs in the pub. Lovely place
The bed! It was so hard (my bed at home is very soft), I struggled to sleep the first night & woke up with back pain the whole stay
Excellent room large enough for stay
Would not mark down on anything
Great place as our base for walking. Rooms very contemporary and clean. Good night's sleep had. Homemade pizza for supper was very tasty as was huge full English breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly despite being very busy due to it being a bank holiday weekend. Will be back
Location, staff were generally helpful
Grubby tables in bar, tables left with plates and glasses on
Lovely room, excellent food, dog-friendly
Just managed to get a table for a meal in the bar on Saturday, no chance of an evening meal Sunday, far too full. Had to drive elsewhere. Would have liked to be warned in advance so we could book table before coming. Village event made it worse.
Food and location us bar atmosphere
Lack of space or facilities to hang clothes up
It was OK in general but quite expensive
Friendliness/helpfulness of staff. No complaints except for... no lounge to sit in. Downstairs full of people eating, nowhere to sit except bedroom, or bar, not a place a woman alone would choose to sit.
See last page. No chair in bedroom. Nowhere to sit except on bed for a whole evening.
Nice room, friendly staff and good food
People smoking outside the restaurant below my window
The Breakfast was burnt ( Black ) My sons Omlet was crispy with Black bacon in it. My Daughter did not eat any of her food because it was burnt.
Room lighting and general decor.bar food was very good as was the beer garden
Beautiful setting and views over fields and hills. Good restaurant serving good range of meals. Adjoining Wilson's "deli" handy for snacks and ice creams
Only grumble might be the bedding being too heavy/warm but it was a rare summer heat wave!
Location,Dog Friendly,Food.Helpful Staff.
Rooms too hot on a Summers night.
Friendly, excellent food, dog friendly, Would return.
Can get too hot in your room in the warm weather, needs a ceiling fan
Everything, especially the bluebird bitter!!
Delighted with the bedroom. Quality fittings and specialised lighting.
Confused by the breakfast menu with what was included in the price and what wasn't.
The whole experience
I have been going to the Wilsons Arms for many years , but unfortunately not very often in the last 17 years. Mrs Mayvers is still the perfect hostess , and the development and modernisation in keeping with the area. Myself and my wife had a wonderful evening , with excellent good , followed by a simply fabulous breakfast, the next day. Can't wait to return, maybe for a few more days next time.
Nothing!!! Love the place!
Breakfast was very good. Bathroom spotless.
We Wern't informed there was a party on the Saturday night so we couldn't eat there. Very disappointing .Bed was very squeaky
Smart room, but rather small. Described as a superior double room, but apart from some fancy fittings it was only "fair"
We looked forward to our evening meal, but it was very mediocre. Very greasy meals. Staff "hovering" to collect plates. Meal expensive for what we got. Breakfast on last day took an hour to serve! No apology from staff... they blamed the "chef". Undercooked sausages and strange tasting eggs. After the first evening meal we made other arrangements.
Great location nice and clean
good food, good beer, good service, very clean, very efficient, great location for walking
