The bed and bath
Central in walking distance of all local attractions and walks Friendly staff Parking Lovely large bed and cotton sheets, very comfortable Very good breakfast
Slightly tired pool and spa Room was too hot
Friendly staff - excellent spa facilities especially Jessica who does an excellent facial. A must try is James cocktails his enthusiasm and knowledge excels
We love the lakes and the walks a great place for a few days away
Hotel food at dove restaurant poor .seating poor waiter very poor will not go back .
Reception staff were helpful and courteous.
We asked about food in the afternoon , one staff member was quite rude , another staff member then came and explained that as the wedding was on and they were busy, they could not serve food.
Loved the evening meal in restaurant next door Nice clean accommodation and comfortable bed
The long walk from reception to our room When we arrived staff continued talking without acknowledging our presence for some time
Food in the Signature restaurant
The bed was uncomfortable.
Bedroom & en suite very comfortable. A couple of beautiful public rooms.
Some tired furniture. Crowded dining room reminiscent of package hotel. On one evening, organisation of dinner schedule was chaotic. Very surprised at AA 2-rosette restaurant award. Suggest AA pay another visit.
difficult to use the Signature Restaurant because of the lack of vegetarian options
Reception good, room servicing was good, food at dinner good but overpriced, wine list very comprehensive, dining room staffing good, lift availability very good. All in all a good stay but spoilt by - see next column.
Failure of maintenance to rectify heat output from radiator hence cooked at night. Completely chaotic service in breakfast room due to useless maitre d.
Great location in the centre of the village. Good grounds and parking.
We were encouraged to book for evening meal in the hotel, on the grounds that it would be a very special experience - but then we were only offered one specific time when we could eat. If I stay in a 4 star hotel, I expect to be able to have dinner when I want. Actually the meal was OK but the experience was not that special. Food was of good quality but the service a bit haphazard. On our second and third nights in Grasmere, we ate at the Grasmere Hotel and the Jumble Room respectively. The Grasmere Hotel was substantially cheaper with higher quality of food and much better ambience - and we got to choose the time we wanted to eat. The Jumble Room was about the same price, better ambience and more imaginative menu. So my best advice is do not choose the half board option. I chose the Wordsworth because it was advertised as having"the only swimmable pool in Grasmere". This may be true but my swimming experience was spoiled by the screaming child who ignored the displayed rules about not running and diving. The management needs to appoint a person who actually supervises the pool area. The jaccuzi had no water in it for the duration of my stay. At breakfast, the time between finishing my cereal and the arrival of my cooked breakfast was 45 minutes and 50 minutes on the first and second days respectively. On the third day, we got up early and it was OK. Really, this is supposedly a 4 star hotel and the management of the restaurant ought to be better.
location was excellent right in centre Grasmere and facing gingerbread shop! The pool although relatively small was warm and we had it to ourselves also bed very comfortable and nice tea/coffee facilities
Hotel looked tired and old fashioned Bedroom had overly powerful smell of polish
Free upgrade Attentive staff Location Good food in Bistro
Jacuzzi out of order. Wasn't highlighted to us on arrival.
Location is great. Room very comfortable and clean. The fire was lovely. The evening meal was enhanced by good canapés in the bar, and also a surprise starter.
It was a pity that the jacuzzi was out of order during our stay. The floor around the pool and changing rooms are very slippy - so be careful.
Ambiance, Food, Relaxed Atmosphere, Most staff friendly and helpful
Surly waiter in the Bistro, Jacuzzi not working for our stay
Location excellent, staff polite and efficient, breakfast food and sevice very good .
Pool was closed for the day which we specifically booked for. Room very small no 36, I had gammon in bistro, tough as old boots, at 12.95 expected much better. At 138 pound a night I found it a let down.
Nice room, great location. Good restaurant.
Spa was a let down, dirty changing room & lockers that didn't work properly (found 1 on the 3rd attempt). Room too hot even with heating off, poor sleep.
Super food and wine, we only stayed or one night, but it was one very enjoyable and very relaxing evening. Thank you.
The Courtyard room we had was tiny and not good value for money. it was also too hot and there was no fresh air to to the location of the room. The fan provided did not work.
Comfortable, elegant lounges Relaxed atmosphere Proximity to cafes, village shops
Breakfast could be better Room was too warm and mirrors in room poorly lit
Restaurant waiter Domenico Made us feel special. staff excellent
Can't think of anything
Tranquil, fantastic living room areas and gardens and wonderful restaurants
The hotel itself was much better than we expected, was a beautiful night away, wish we could of stayed longer! We opted for the dove bistro, and although we had to wait a little while it was well worth it- some lovely veggie options too and well worth leaving some room for the desert menu! The staff made us feel very comfortable and we would love to return in the future!
One negative I noticed was that the drain in the bath was blocked and very slow to drain, hardly a disaster but maybe something that needs checking!
proximity to village centre
