Very well looked after.
Friendliness of staff. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent
Our room had recently been refurbished and was very comfortable. The night porter was very friendly and helpful, as was the housekeeper on the morning of our departure. We had a nice breakfast in lovely surroundings.
On our arrival we approached the receptionist, who barely managed to look up and then just said Yes? Our impression was that she was unfriendly and not in the least bit welcoming. When we returned to our room sometime after midnight, we found that the toilet was continually flushing itself. Given the late hour, my husband took off the lid to the cistern and managed to stop this. When we reported this problem to the same receptionist on our departure there was no apology forthcoming for our inconvenience. Her only concern was the cost of the water being wasted. Her attitude spoilt a nice stay for us.
Sean , Oliver also the girls were very helpful, the hotel is beautifull every thing done to a very high standed, hope to go back again very soon, thank you again Anne
The location is beautiful, the room was fab, staff were so helpfull and always had a smile, only thing I would rate as poor was the reception for,the television, everything else was lovely, we really enjoyed our stay
The poor reception of the television,
comfortable quiet room. Good meal and service would definitely return
Bar area was not very warm. I loved the food but husband likes plain food so had a difficult choice at dinner, lovely breakfast.
Bed looked the business and was very comfortable. Bathroom was nice and clean. Staff very helpfull and professional
The fact that eventually I had to leave
Location, food,staff, accomadation.
Room furnishings incomplete Cooked breakfast saturated in fat Hot water system incapable of delivering constant temperature supply at morning peak
Beautiful countryside, magnificent building. Currently being upgraded so I'm sure will be even better soon. We had a huge room with a great view and felt like lord and lady of the manor
People were great, help and friendly Location terrific House gorgeous Food terrific Dining room nice room, good linen, but so much potential for a truly stunning space wasted - like a doctors waiting room with no privacy whatsoever - what a shame
Bed was SO uncomfortable, like sleeping on wood Bathroom - no shelf in the shower for shower gel, shampoo etc Far too hot No mirror anywhere except in bathroom - impossible to dry your hair - they gave me a tiny standalone one, it was OK but would expected a very great deal more from this class of hotel
Loved the grounds. Breakfast staff were brilliant. Rooms were lovely, decorated nice and clean. Great selection of teas, coffee and biscuits in the room.
Bed was too hard, we didn't get much sleep. And when we did, we woke up with pains and aches. None of the staff had name badges. Which I thought was strange. Just meant we couldn't praise anyone by name before we left. Also the no collar, no dining rule is a little out dated. As long as you look smart at dinner, that is the main thing.
Food was fantastic, staff hard working and attentive, attention to detail.....a bit of class.
The room was beautiful. Staff were wonderful. The library was lovely. The grounds were exceptional. Our many thanks to Anne who made our stay much more bearable!!!
No full length mirror. Shower was a pain to operate and parts of it did not work properly. The food at breakfast was very bad. Burnt twice, the bacon and toast. Fried bread was not fried just soaked in fat. Toast was cold on every morning. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was insipid. Only strawberry yoghurts on offer on two days!!!! Unfortunately, we have been spoiled by staying at some exceptional hotels. I feel that it be a great disservice if I were not honest. Especially without which you could not improve your service. The food at breakfast was a major factor in the reason why we did not stay in for dinner on at least one occasion. (my 49th birthday)!!! A hotel which could have been superb really let itself down on some quite simple things, like a full length mirror.
Quality of rooms and bathrooms and public areas along with friendly staff good food
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location, friendly and accommodating staff, lovely rooms and delicious breakfast. Just wish that we could have had an evening meal but unfortunately we arrived too late. I would highly recommend this hotel
As a Hotel and the breakfast was excellent.
The lunch and the evening meal was very poor.
A classic country house hotel in beautiful gardens yet only a short drive to the seaside and the moors.
Some refurbishment yet to be done.
Staff excellent. Food good. Location wonderful. Large comfortable bed.
Limited menu choice. Prices high. Cost of room was high for what you got. Bathroom small, nowhere to hang towels for 2 adults. Small unheated towel rail 2ft. from floor. Hot water took 3 mins. to reach tap and shower. Room heating was limited to a single electric heater. TV did not function correctly.
Lovely old gothic mansion room nicely decorated nice to see a deer roaming round on the lawn while eating breakfast. And breakfast was lovely.
There was a constant humming noise like a extracter fan or a water tank filling up drove us mad. And the vegetarian meal in the resteraunt was diabolical I got pasta in mediterainian sauce which was a whopping £22.50 for two courses & it was under cooked. Its something I would russel up in 20 mins on a teatime! But that was my only option I was very disappointed as I really wanted to love this place as it should be.
Location and grounds. Breakfast Wife liked fine dining menu but not my preference. Workmen on roof but informed not a problem to us . Good check out times Taxi called at our request (£8.50) . To scarborough the same back tp hotel
Signage on main road from scarborough direction good. Missed it from whitby direction if any. Also sign at gateway obscured by tree branches. System for recording evening meals caused us not to be booked in as requested on second night and booked in when not requested on third night.
The staff were almost all excellent, the food was amazing. Lovely setting and so wonderfully quiet.
One member of staff (not certain of her position) was not at all welcoming and her appearance was quite unkempt. The cost was expensive for the room we were given,a small attic room with a low ceiling. Disappointed really and would be reluctant to return because of this reason.
quiet location, comfortable bed
amateur staff Poor finishing in the deluxe room - cheap fixtures and fittings dressed up to try to look high end Quality of the produce at breakfast was very poor
Friendly staff, large rooms, good breakfast, lovely grounds.
Room 21 at the top of the house has no views and involves a long climb; should be discounted.
The building outside and gardens. Good water pressure in shower but in middle of shower and water went cold.
Bedroom very cheap, cheap mattress, cheap bedding, cheap and horrible headboard, horrible pillows, bathroom u had u squeeze to get thru a door 50cm wide, toilet was in tight squeeze with sink. Bedroom wasnt clean. Dinner cost a fortune for what it was, had a tournedos rossini and it was horrible with the pig liver all over it, my partner had a veil t bone but they forgot the tbone. Wine was cheap, Scallops for starter were overdone. Breakfast was dreadful, not many options, coffee tasted vile, orange juice was just concentrate, yoghurt tasted horrible, asdas cheapest price taste better. Went to reception to complain about room and the amazingly sarcastic attendant didnt attend the "helpful and cordial" school. A shame everything about hotel. In our way in reception was empty so we had to ring the bell and a gentleman wearing tshirt shirts and flipflops came around to greet us and of course get the payment. Do not recommend to anyone.
