The manageress was fantastic and very helpful, the location is good for peace and quiet breaks There was not a lot of choice on the menu and the restaurant is too closed in, I had a panic attack whilst in the restaurant and had to leave. When the manageress is not working the staffing levels do go down

My friend and I were very impressed with the hotel. The staff were very helpful and efficient and we had a very enjoyable 2 night stay there. We did some touring round the beach area of Scarborough etc., but liked going back to the quiet and comfortable hotel of Wrea Head which was mainly in countryside. The only thing I would say is that the sign on the roadside should be more prominent. We didnt see it and had a little trouble finding the hotel.

It is a pleasant old house, which could, with the appropriate investment and renovation offer a reasonable location. It is within easy reacvh of excellent country side, though regrettably offers no really impressive views The hotel is part of a local group which is apparently in administration. This does not seem surprising, in that it appears to have been under invested in over a long period and now has a very worn out, unloved tired feeling to it, with accommodation and facilities which make the rack rates look around 30 - 50% over priced, Did not eat dinner in restaurant, but breakfast was very disappointing. As a package it was prett appalling so avoid!

The exterior of the Hotel looked great, the public areas were full of character but a little worn!, Bed was comfortable, staff were polite. The exterior and public spaces were as I would expect, our room (9) was a broom cupboard!, It was so small I could only get into the 4'6" double bed over the end!, I had to move furniture to get into the bathroom and when on the toilet my knees hit the shower. The decoration of the room was in a bit of a state, the carpet bar on the bathroom was missing. The breakfast room was being re-decorated, at least all the pictures were missing leaving dirty marks on the walls. I had poached eggs on toast, the eggs were over cooked and tasted strongly of vinegar, the toast was soggy where the eggs were not drained.

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful location with wonderful views. Our room was very spacious & had a lovely view. The staff were very helpful & the food was very good. Our only gripe was that the alternative breakfasts to a full English breakfast - such as kippers or smoked salmon were an extra cost. In most hotels these come included. Apart from that I can't complain!

We enjoyed the atmosphere. It appeared busy but as it accommodates a smaller amount of guests it didn't affect noise levels. Very laid back. The meal in the restaurant was very nice and they accommodated me well as I did not like the fish on the day's menu so they kindly offered me an alternative. The superior room is in dire need of refurbishment, particularly the window frames as we had to obtain assistance to open just one of them. The other one wouldn't budge at all. There was an awful smell in the bath as when you emptied the sink, the mains were obviously blocked and would bubble up into the bath! The shower was very cramped. The hotel and buildings in the grounds are showing signs of neglect which is rather a shame as it must have been such a grand place at one time. They appeared to be in a rush upon our arrival and we were somewhat neglected although they did apologise for this. We forgot to ask to order a paper as one is normally asked at booking in stage. We ordered one for the next day and they had forgotten (very sloppy!). We had a meal in the restaurant. The table had not been laid and did not have serviettes or some of the cutlery. Having said all this it was a nice area to be in. I think maybe we would not waste our money on a superior room.

Ref: 730471247 My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Wrea Head Country Hotel. We are both extremely angry about the experience we had. As soon as we set foot in the bedroom No17 it was claustrophobic and we requested another room straight away, it seems there were none and we had no option but to stay. As you will see from the reference number we paid £210 for the 2 nights stay and for that we got an attic single sized bedroom . The mattress was atrocious and we both suffered back pain the following mornings. The décor should always come second to a basic need for a decent mattress. We have never had this problem with Premier Inns !!! Then there was the problem of the heat in the room, it has been a very hot weekend and the temperature in that room and especially through the night was horrendous. After the first night of not sleeping due to a poor quality mattress and excessive heat in the room (with both small windows wide open) we asked again to change the room if possible and were offered an electric fan, which we declined, it was almost impossible to sleep with all the other factors without a noisy fan buzzing. There was also a problem with the TV remote it did not switch off the TV and the only way was by the wall switch under the TV. The remote only worked intermittently. The bathroom shower was extremely weak although the bathroom itself looked nice again the basics had been overlooked. This is our first time in an English Rose Hotel it was to be a special break to celebrate my birthday. It has been an occasion to remember for all the wrong reasons and I am extremely disappointed and aggrieved. What you see on line IS NOT what you get where rooms are concerned. Sent to English Rose Hotels 4/7/11

Beautiful setting, building and garden. Public rooms full of antiques, period features and character. Cooked breakfast was good, although buffet part of breakfast was a bit sparse. Hotel room wasn't great, decor was tired, curtain was hanging off and wouldn't close completely, bed extremely hard.

The position of the hotel is reached by a long drive which is very impressive. It is very good for a quiet break, with excellent service and good food. The superior bedroom allocated had good views over the gardens and to the Yorkshire countryside beond. Lack of a lift to first floor and the poor plumbing-almost impossible to use the shower through lack of water pressure. Elderly guests who form the main type of guest staying here should bear these points in mind.

I only stayed one night after attending my sons wedding at the hotel it was lovely having the wedding, reception, and evening all in one place and the fact that there was enough room for all the family to stay the night afterwards. the staff were very helpful one gentleman even went out of his way to get my 4 year old grandaughter crisps from the kitchen when she asked for them. the only downside was the fact that there is no lift and we had to carry our cases upstairs and along corridors with stickers telling us to beware of wet paint. fire doors were properly closed but this did make getting through them with suitcases rather difficult. Some help would have been greatly appreciated.
