Abbington Hotel  

Everything! Room was very clean and bedding white - not dingy grey. Comfortale beds and hot water plentiful. Breakfast was absolutely excellent and we didn't need to eat again till 6.30 in the evening! A superb, well priced hotel with very friendly, caring staff.

Decor rather frilly and dated, bit like staying at Grandma's but not a problem.

Room was clean and just as the pictures, bed was comfortable. Tea and biscuits and complimentary bathroom products and ideas were of exceptional quality and thoughtfulness Breakfast was amazing

The stairs were quite steep, and there wasnt a lift, probably because I injured my knee this was more important to me. The TV in the lounge was in spanish

The owner / manager is a graduate of the Basil Fawlty Charm School who other staff agree exhibits no inter-personal skills and regularly upsets guests. For instance, we were woken during our first night and gruffly told the room had been double booked and asked to come down to reception to 'sort things out' - we declined. We decided to cut our initial two night stay short after one night due to a grossly unsatisfactory room and the unpleasantness of the first night to be told we had to pay for the second night anyway.

Although we only stayed for 1 night we were made very welcome, the rooms were spotless and had everything we needed, we were only sorry it was only for the one night and we would certainly revisit.

There was nothing that we did not like

I have atayed several times. The standards are good & consistent, staff friendly & helpful, rooms very clean and comfortabloe and the bathrooms work every time!

The only small negative is that if the large car paek at the back is crowded, some van drivers park across the front, making a latish return to the hotel very difficult as it can be like an obstacle course.

Not staying in main hotel ..having to walk 300 feet in the cold and wet to get to are room (house) witch was in another street (essex street )

The staff were very friendly, making us feel welcome and at home. They were interested in our holiday and greeted us at the end of each day with a smile. We loved the homelike environment and interior. Handy having free WIFI and meals were lovely.

Some improvement needed in cleaning of our room (dead flies on windowsil for duration of our 3 1/2 week stay) Male owner needs training in improving his people skills

The room was lovely, spacious with en-suite, telephone, tv and tea and coffee facilities. The price included breakfast for me and my friend. You had a great choice for breakfast.

Breakfast and just a couple of minutes drive from Stevenage train station.

Being cut off from the main hotel in a house 100 to 200 yards behind the main hotel. Thin walls in the house. Being given a room which also housed the boiler and listening to water running for extended periods.

Value for money and facilities

Friendly personal service. Quiet and comfy beds.

Furnishings now a bit scruffy.

Friendly staff; good breakfasts.

The en-suite facilities are a bit snug in size for persons of a larger size.

Excellent value, incredibly comfortable beds, great breakfast, very friendly and helpful owners and staff. Good old fashioned hospitality. Definitely recommend staying here. 3 minute walk to old Town, easy parking at hotel.

The staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfast was wholesome and well presented. Based on that I am sure other meals would have been the same. Great having a car park that didn't have to juggle cars and spaces.

On the final day of the weekend, most of the guests arrived for breakfast at a similar time. One couple sat at a three person table and so this had a knock on effect. W as a three person party, had to find a four person table and the only one free was in the dining room and wasn't laid up for breakfast. I think it would help if all the tables had room numbers on them so all guests know where they should sit. This would help the guests and also the staff to keep track of which rooms had had breakfast, and which had still to arrive.

Eccellent privately owned and run small hotel. We had a double room at the front. Very clean and comfortable with all complimantary extras you would find in a large chain hotel, toiletries etc. Good breakfast. We used as a base for getting to London, short taxi ride to the station and only 20mins away from Kings Cross. Recommended and would stay again.
