The location. Once you have parked your car (and this was a lot easier than some website comments had led us to believe), there is quite a lot to see which is easily accessible on foot. There are many good restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. If I went back I would actually negotiate just a room only rate - it would be very easy to get a good breakfast round the corner - and probably cheaper. When you walk up the main staircase, into the accommodation section, there was a very strong smell of blocked drains. Luckily this did not reach our room, but it was a bit off putting. I was surprised that the staff were wearing t-shirts. I would have expected shirts/ties/blouses, particularly at the wedding reception we attended. Two small things - room 110 - as is often the case - the toilet roll holder is in the wrong place. It should be on the side wall instead of the back wall. Also, room 115, there should be a ceiling light just inside the door. The mirror is totally useless without this. In fact, both rooms could have more powerful lighting. Having said that, I would go back, and I would recommend it. |

I liked the fact that the hotel was so central and we didn't have to drive anywhere. The hotel has a warm and welcoming lounge area with an open fire. The breakfast was also very good and a good range to choose from. The only negative point was that the other people travelling with us did not have quite such good rooms, altho we stayed in the Pickwick rooms which are due to be refurbed, one of the other rooms had a damaged shower head and the other no shower facility at all, also one of the rooms had no mirror apart from in the bathroom, this made it difficult for a lady to apply makeup and dry her hair as you had to lean into the bathroom from the bedroom, room 436 I think it was needs a mirror in the bedroom! |

I was at the Hotel for a particular event and hosted a lunch there. I found the staff, in particular, helpful and problem-solving in the midst of a complicated schedule involving a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. |

The central location, the pleasant and helpful staff and the overall atmosphere. The room was pleasant but - see below. The poor lighting in the room (460). The single bedside light was effective only when the book was held right under the lampshade. Also the 'red' tap produced mostly cold water with only occasional bursts of very hot water. The refurbishment cannot come too soon. |

I loved the log fire in the lounge. I did not like the bar prices at the hotel .£6.50 is a bit much for a class of wine. |

The hotel was well situated, comfortable and provided good service. I liked the traditional exterior. I would have preferred a more traditional interior in keeping with the age of the hotel. |

Not too good. Looks lovely from front, we had a room in an annexe, on tothe road, very basic, not romantic, lots of street noise, I expected a Regency room - it was clinical in decor and furniture The room - I chose to say here for the Regency look of the hotel - I have had better rooms in Premier Travelodge - clean, clinical, boring - my room was in an 'annexe' & was on a side road, dustmen at 7.15, removal van, 7.30, Sunlight Laundary van at 7.35, got up & left by 8.15. |

location, food, staff helpful and friendly The first room offered had a broken toilet and we had to up-grade. We were surprised because we would have expected this to have been noticed as the room had been serviced. |

Staff were very friendly and helpful.A nice mixture of the old and modern rooms and decor.Very comfortable, especially the beds and pillows Car Parking can be a nightmare although,in fairness,I have to say that the staff handled the situation very well and we were not inconvenienced. There was a porter whose sole job appeared to moving cars around for guests to get in and out of the small car park |

I liked the decor of the room, it was very modern and the room was very clean The bed was so soft, I felt like I was sleeping on a bouncy castle, and the pillows were also very poor. |
