The location was excellent for Christmas shopping, the room (junior Suite) was very nice and clean with a great bathroom. The car park staff were very helpful and friendly. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with were the breakfasts. Although the eating area was clean, the waiter/waitresses helpful, I felt the breakfast menu was a bit limited. The food itself was very nice and cooked well, it was more the selection. The menu had light bites like cereals and heavier options like a cooked breakfast, however, for the price it should really have been all options. Its the first time ive been to a hotel where you had to choose between one or the other, usually you get cereal, as much juice as you want and then a cooked option, and then small pastries if you want them, but we didnt get any otpion here, which for the price of the room was a bit tight. I would have expected juice, toast, cereal, cooked and pastry like everywhere else.

From the moment of arrival the staff were helpful & friendly. The location was picturesque, the food was wonderful, reasonably priced as was the Wine Menu. The room we booked was listed as a Deluxe Double, which I booked for for a romantic break. The view was directly level out onto one of the hotel roofs, a flat roof with noisy air-conditioning units jutting out. The bed was two single beds pushed together & the ridge down the middle could be clearly felt. The room was dated, not by the the Art Deco design but the tired carpets and paintwork. There was no fridge in the room, although complimentary warm still water was provided. The temperature of the room was very warm, although there was air conditioning , which was quieter than the noise from the roof. The bath was small, I am 6ft 2" & medium build & struggled to comfortably get in it. The bathroom wall & ceiling was cracked, which spoilt the luxury of a hotel bath for my girlfriend. The shower cubicle was so small when washing ones hair you had to come out of the shower to add the shampoo ect.. So it was not immediatley washed away whilst applying. Once again for a man not a lot of room. I would have liked to seen another Deluxe Double to compare, but was told the rooms were all booked. It is of my opinion all the Deluxe Double rooms were more than booked & lesser quality rooms were being passed off as such. I can only draw this conclusion as all the reviews we read prior to booking were highly praising. Had the booking been for more than one night I would not have stayed in that room.

We stayed for 2 nights at New Year. I cannot fault the staff inany way or the hotel itself. From the moment we pulled up in the car everything was taken care. Highly recommend the Angel for short breaks or business. There is normally something I can find to mention but in this case nothing. The only tiny small issue was that we offered a turn down service when we checked in but never actually received one, no real hardship though.

We enjoyed the very friendly atmosphere and the helpful staff. The food was excellent and the room luxurious, with the proximity of the Abbey an added bonus. Downside was the limited parking though staff were always available to move cars

I cannot fault this hotel - which is unusual, as I am not easily pleased. The staff were without exception courteous and helpful, and efficient without intrusion. I had made an error when booking - this was dealt with smoothly and I was made to feel as if the mistake was not mine - even though it clearly was and considerable to say the least! Well done and thank you

We enjoyed the comfort of the hotel and the helpfulness of the staff, as I had a leg in plaster. Christmas had been a difficult time for us and at last we were able to enjoy a short break where we could relax. Nothing was a trouble to the staff and they looked after us very well. The room we had was spacious and well furnished, very comfortable and warm. It was nice to have our car parked for us and our luggage taken to our room. Your staff were pleased to help wherever possible. We were sorry that the seats by the fire in the lounge were reserved and then no one sat in them all evening. However, we decided it would have been too hot there anyway and were perfectly comfortable where we were.

It was clean and covered basic needs. The breakfast was satisfactory. We visit Bury regularly and visit friends who live on the next road so were looking for a regular hotel. We booked our room here to celebrate our anniversary. We were woken at 7am by an HGV delivering toilet rolls which was level with our room at the back of the hotel. It continously bleeped for an hour as the lift moved up and down, less that 6 inches from our window. I reported this to reception who offered an apology but were not really interested. It ruined our morning. I would strongly advise not booking out this room if you are expecting extensive deliveries!

The Angel is a lovely, comfortable, design oriented hotel right in the middle of Bury St Edmunds. The food is wonderful and available all day, and the lounge area very comfortable and busy with visitors and locals. It was a great base to see Bury from and to entertain my daughter. The service was friendly but a bit haphazard. We had to wait a while to get shown to a table, and the breakfast orders were wrong both days. Some staff were very professional, others less so. But that did not detract from what was overall a great experience.

Food was delicious, though expensive. WiFi was great! Location and WiFi were the main reasons I chose this hotel, and I wasn't disappointed. Would have been handy to have a mini-fridge in the room. The breakfasts were good, though it would be nice to have cereals, etc as a buffet. No room service menu in the rooms - I kept having to go out to reception to see what was on the menu, though one night someone did deliver a menu to my room.

Hotel was clean and room was good but there was no bar. Drinks were served in lounge area that was furnished with unsuitable low tables and casual uncomfortable chairs. Drinks and snacks relied on waitress service that was very slow or nonexistent.

The service and the comfort. the staff were excellent as was the food. Even gluten free was no problem. Thank you. Our only reserve was a ground floor room that was quite open to the road side so not so private or quiet as we would have hoped. We had to keep the curtains and blinds closed. The rest of our stay was extremely enjoyable. see above comment on roadside room

The Hotel was lovely and in keeping with period , which makes a change and the people on Reception were very helpful . The car park arrangement worked well. The location was good as well One of the waitresses English was not that good , so we had to check with an English speaking staff that we were going to get the correct drink. I would have liked a small bar , so you could see the drinks and point to if the staff English was not up to it

An excellent hotel with friendly and more than helpful staff. The room was stylish and comfortable with good facilities. The overnight valet parking and porter service was superb and the more than helpful porters made making the stay hassle free. The hotel had a boutique feel, contemporary look with stylish communal areas and an excellent restaurant/menu. Good value for the Room Tarriff and very convenient location. Would book to stay again!

The ideal location, very nice hotel, I liked the history of it, very clean and comfertable a bit different in a nice sort of way. Unlike some other hotels it has not been spoilt, and modernised, in a tacky sort of way. I like all the art work etc, and loved the log fire. Would love to return in the near future. Not much, some background music would be nice in the lounge area. A seperate shower would be good in the bathrooms, other than over the bathtubs.

The location is excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfasy menu is very nice, some unusual items on it. The free wi fi is easy to use. The basin in the bathroom does not have a plug and the shower is so complicated we had to get someone in to show us how to use it!! The parking was fine for us as we didn't need to use the car all weekend but they constantly move cars around as the car park is not really big enough! I thought I had booked a deluxe room but although the room was nice it certainly was not deluxe.

Quiet and comfortable room despite being on main road. Large room and bathroom. Attentive porter and good food. Near to all facilities and catherdral a few minutes walk away Shabby decoration particularly in bathroom with peeling wallpaper. Damp patches on wallpaper in room - maintenance of room decor not very high on hotel agenda it seemed - clean but scruffy and why hide the tea making gear in the unused wardrobe? - we only found it when maid service told us where it was on second night!
