Misson is a very picturesque village in a very convenient location close to Doncaster and just three miles from the new Robin Hood Airport at nearby Finningley. This makes the Angel Lodge a great place to stay either before or after flying from Robin Hood Airport.
In its role as a traditional village pub, the Angel Inn offers a varied range of entertainment and social activities, well supported by the local community and the pub’s regulars. On a regular weekly basis, the pub caters for cricket, pool, darts and dominoes teams. The Friday night quiz nights are always extremely popular and draw a good crowd.
The Angel Inn is a traditional village pub that has developed over many years into a popular destination for good food, well liked by visitors and locals alike. An extensive selection of food is available, including authentic traditional local specialities, international favourites and classics. The inn also offers regular themed evenings, with the extremely popular fish and chips night on Thursday evening and weekly Sunday roasts.
The inn serves a range of ales and beers, both bottled and draught, to cater for most tastes. The pub is nearly 200 years old and still boasts a number of well-preserved beautiful original period features, including old wood beams. To the rear is the spacious conservatory, where guests may choose food from the extensive menu.
The locality of Misson has an extensive and interesting history stretching back over the centuries. Indeed, the area was home to a number of Roman forts because of its strategic importance and geographical proximity to both York and Lincoln.
The middle ages however, provide some interesting events, which 2 men from the area were at the centre of. The Pilgrim Fathers included amongst their number William Brewster and William Bradford. These 2 men have strong connections with the church at Babworth and travelled on the Mayflower on its journey to the United States. The link creates a strong bond between the area and visiting Americans, as it has been estimated that the original Pilgrim Fathers, estimated to number around 100, have approximately one million ancestors in the United States. This makes the area popular with visiting American tourists and a Mayflower Trail has been developed to allow visitors to see where their ancestors came from.
The local countryside provides some very picturesque walks from the Angel Inn and the annual Classic Car Run from the pub provides an opportunity to view this first hand. The Classic Car Run takes place during May. The route varies each year, but always takes in some of the beautiful countryside and villages in the area. In 2004, around 70 vintage vehicles took part in the event.
