Jake was on duty when we arrived; his unfailing, appropriate, sense of humour was "just what the Dr. ordered", as we were to attend a family funeral, next day.To discover the book regarding Lady Astor was a bonus. "Thank you" as I was able to purchase a copy of same. We hope to visit again soonest, under more pleasant circumstances. We will highly recommend your Hotel to our friends. It cannot be easy at this time of recession!

Nothing except the marmite at breakfast and the hot chocolate sachets in the 3 rooms I went in in 3 days! Although the website says parking on site, there isn't any. I had to move 2 times as 1st room: Stank of smoke and had french windows on to a flat roof with a 20ft drop and no barriers. Couldn't lock this window properly and the 2 windows wouldn't shut. 2Nd room: Freezing cold.(The receptionist hadn't even been in that area before. She's been there 3 months.) Luke warm shower. Toilet wouldn't flush. 3Rd room: a smokers room again. Started smelling when smokers occupied room next door. Don't stay there....!

Staff incredibly attentive. Total customer focus. Had spent previous night in Exeter in horrible Jurys Inn: wish we'd travelled an hour to spend another night here. Rooms not huge, but it's an oid building. 100 metres from seafront and Plymouth Hoe; five minutes walk from shopping centre. Ref. parking comments: hotel has parking vouchers at £3 to park until 10am next day (you can buy as many as you need!) Wifi also a bit shaky in some rooms, but offered free coffee when using it in lobby. Some guests may require help accessing rooms in one part of hotel (lift, then stairs) but I'm sure the staff would be falling over themselves to help. Door locks a bit fiddly, but again staff were helpful and the locks "did* work

Its location is near perfect, quiet street but stone's throw from the sea. It was great that we could bring the dog. Reception staff very friendly on arrival.

Close to the city centre, theatre, the Hoe and attractions. Parking was reasonable, although should not be advertised as 'free parking'. Good selection at breakfast.

The reception staff were excellent. They were happy to adapt for our time needs. There was the possibility for a meal in the hotel but there was loud music(? A function) so we decided to go out to eat. The breakfast was very good and the staff helpful. This was our first stay in the Astor though we had lived in Plymouth for 12 years. There was great attention to detail in the room, sadly 2 small light bulbs were not working in the room. Over the sink in the bathroom and mirror in the bedroom.

The hotel was sufficient for our needs as a one night getaway. After arriving on crutches the receptionist changed our room to enable easier access to the room. Staff were friendly including the owner. Room was ok, but wouldnt like to be in it for a week. Breakfast very good and nice to return in the evening to have a bar in the hotel to have a night cap. After reading recent reviews of the hotel after returning home, we found the owner quite pleasant, but internet stated free parking when it transpired we had to pay for a spot on the road, cost was not an issue of £3.00 just a bit misleading. Room was a little dated, with the floor carpet not reaching the skirting board, and a electrical socket not fully attached to the wall.

Nice staff and nice food (dinner and breakfast) at a reasonable price. Room was good but a bit cold - central heating was not working very well but an an additional heater was provided quickly. The position is good - close to the Hoe and a short walk into the city centre. Easy to park outside and the hotel has its own parking if required.

In a good location for both the Hoe, the Barbican and the shops. Friendly and obliging staff . Good value for money with reasonable breakfast. Some of the bedroom fitments (including the lock on the door) need replacement. Some dining room furniture very tired.

The staff were excellent as was the food. They were very helpful despite having two other fuctions to attend to. The double room was comfortable although it was rather small for a double more suitable as a single, otherwise satisfactory.

We could not find any fault, the staff were very friendly, nothing too much trouble, even when they had been on all night. We were able to park our car securly with no worry. The food was displayed wonderfully he staff that were on in the resturant were discrete, there if needed and on the ball refilling food trays etc.and I think it was he best cooked breakfast we had ever had for taste and display. The linen was perfect, everywhere bedrooms and resturant. Very pleased indeed will recommend and use again. It was very handy for all what is needed, very quiet area, so good all around.

I liked the location & braekfast was acceptable. Old fashioned, tired decor, bed uncomfortable, room lock did not work, wardrobe did not open owing to large old headboard.

The description of affordable luxury is a joke, the owners have no idea what luxury is. I have visited better 2 star hotels! This place is stuck in some kind of timewarp, which is demonstrated by the covers on the bed looking like they having survived four or so decades of use. I was scared to touch it . The whole place is in dire need of modernisation and a full renovation which it must of started because my window had scaffolding outside. The lift needs to be modernised as it was dirty. The room was full of dust, as was the bathroom. And the workmanship in tile/bath repair is shocking. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would not revisit. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, couple minutes from the Plymouth Hoe. Everything, except the location

1)....Poor parking arrangements. 2)...cool temperature overnight. 3)...I felt as if I was interupting the reception staff from the computer screen. 4)...as often in city hotels, the recption rooms were very nice, but the upstairs were tatty and could do with a bit more attention to scuff marks on doors and walls.
