The Black Boy InnNorthgate Street, Stryd Pedwar A Chwech, Snowdonia, LL55 1RW Caernarfon (Show map) Wonderful, Score from 239 reviews“The friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food.”
Ian,
Beverley
The Black Boy is a 16th-century inn within Caernarfon's historic town walls. It has good Real Ales, hearty meals, and is an easy walk from the center of town and 13th-century castle. The Black Boy Inn dates back to 1522 and is one of the oldest inns in North Wales. Some of its walls are 4-5 ft thick. The wood paneling, creaking floorboards, low ceilings, narrow staircases and thick wooden beams create a cozy atmosphere. Caernarfon is a market town with an open-air market every Saturday (Mondays also in summer). Hotel Rooms: 17

A really good hotel/inn. The room was charming as was the maze like corridor that led us there. Staff very friendly and helpful, providing print outs from the internet at the drop of hat, everyone working here appears happy... Which is rare these days. The included breakfast was the best I've been given by any hotel, the selection is quite wonderful and a great inspiration to get you out of bed. The situation, snug within the walls of the old town, is delightful. If you are planning a trip to Snowdonia this is the place to stay. There is a carpark, free for guests, but it is not neccessary to have a car as the public transport is good and reliable. A 15 minute bus ride will take you to Llanberis. We thoroughly recommend you stay at The Black Boy/Buoy Inn. Nothing! Well ok, there's always something. If you are fond of black pepper you are going to be disappointed, which, considering the quality of the food, is a strange omission.

I thought it was a very good hotel. The bedroom was fantastic, and I understand they even have superior rooms as well as the standard which I had.....so try one of those next time. The food was also good.

I had a very warm welcome at this beautiful inn. Despite being in located centrally and being a pub as well, I had a really good night's sleep. The room was very modern and comfortable yet was sensitive to the sixteenth century architecture of the inn. Lovely bar too where I enjoyed a pint.

My Partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Boy Inn. Whilst the weather was a bit hit and miss - obviously no fault of the Hotels! - the accommodation and its location were superb. We opted for one of the executive rooms, located in the roofspace, and found it exceeded expectation. Food - be it in the Bar or Restaurant - was superb, and the Management and staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We will be visiting again very soon. Dave and Paula, Hyde.

The location made an excellent hub for exploring Snowdonia,Anglesey, and the surrounding coastal cities by car. While the food in the Inn is excellent, there are many restaurants in The area and small shop. Staff is friendly, inn is comfortable.

I have known of the Black Boy Inn for over 60 years having lived in Caernarfon for 19 years. My first experience at staying there was a most pleasant suprise with all the facilities on hand coupled with friendly staff , made it a memoreable experience. Even the free wifi was the fastest Ive experienced in any Hotel ! a minor point but an indication as to the overall excellence of the accomodation. The atmosphere , enhanced by the age and character of this splendid establishment will make me return here when I make another visit to my "home town" in the not too distant future.

On arrival the Reception staff were extremely warm, welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and we immediately felt at home. The ambience of the public rooms was delightful. We found the menu to very much to our liking, and the food was well cooked and appetising - "proper" food rather than fast food. The soup deserves a special mention, excellent. We had never before visited Caernarfon, nor The Black Boy Inn, but have decided it will be a regular place to visit whenever we want an escape from everyday life. A comfortable sitting area would have been appreciated. After a while the seats in the restaurant and in the bar opposite become very hard, and we didn't always want to return to our room. A comfortable sitting area would have enabled us to - read the papers, mingle with other guests, chill out and chat over a drink.

Its great location within the walled city of Caernarfon and a walk away from the castle. Very quaint and nicely done interiors, the rooms were absolutely great The stale smell of the pub as one entered the premises

Overall the stay was excellent value for money. I was not impressed with a young lady working behind the bar and one side of the pub was very rowdy. However the rooms were very clean, had everything that you could need and was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and the waitress was very pleasant and efficient. I would certainly recommend The Black Boy Inn.

“The expected facilities were available as found in all other Inn,s that we have stayed at making for more homely reception when arriving. The new development of it,s site and it's whole aspect makes the Inn somewhere to stay rather then just a place to put your head down for the night, it is in a very nice area providing great facilities with views close by that are second to none. We have enjoyed ourselves at many Inns, but give this one the thumbs up when rating it with others.” Denzil, Blackwood |
