The relaxed atmosphere and that nothing requested was too much trouble.

The two night stay was excellent from the moment we arrived(the weather helped). Staff whether on reception in the bar restaurant and domestic were first class. Room was comfortable and clean and the grounds superbly maintained. The food was to die for. Given this hotel was actually our second choice we fell on our feet.

I really cannot find anything to criticize.

Excellent hotel with quality accommodation and first class restaurant.

Some of the food on the menu in the restaurant was too expensive and the fish portions were far too small.

The staff were very helpful and polite, the meal in the restaurant was excellent and one of the best we have had. We also liked been on the square and was able to walk around at ease. We were also very impressed that we were given water and fruit for our journey home.

    nothing.

The food was excellent. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

The bathroom. Needed modernising. The floor flooded every time we had a shower as the screen didn't stop the water shooting out.

We were guests at The Black Swan for just one night on our way down to London and were impressed the friendly attentive staff and the classic decor within the rooms. Breakfast the following mornings was a lovely!

Well situated on Helmsley. Good breakfast. Very pleasant staff.

Room 3 was disappointingly small for the price paid. We then upgraded to Room 5 but the two joined beds weren't comfortable.

A lovely hotel in a fantastic location. The walled garden is worth a visit in the summer. We can highly recommend the International Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park.

    Nothing.

The hotel was a lovely old fashioned place, and the food was great and the wine-list was decent.

Bar staff were very good (Christian), shame the restaurant staff were hit or miss. First night despite 3 requests we eventually got our wine after the starter was finished. Next day newer staff were on duty and Vaughn made a difference.

The location was excellent and reception staff really friendly and welcoming. Staff in restaurant also very good. The older man working in the bar however was standoffish and acted as though we were beneath him. The room was clean but bathroom tiles in places were rather grubby. Loo roll holder fell apart! Also on a hot and stuffy night could not get window to stay open. Air conditioning should be standard in a 4 star hotel. Not sure worth 4 stars.
