The Feathers Hotel, situated in the centre of historic Woodstock on the doorstep of Blenheim Palace. Originally seven separate houses, the hotel boasts character and charm with antiques and log fires....
Score from 126 reviews Very good
The Macdonald Bear Hotel is ideally situated in the middle of Woodstock Town Centre. It has a wonderful atmosphere. Within minutes of Blenheim Palace and its beautiful parkland. Woodstock itself is fascinating and very pretty. You couldn't do better if you need a break.
-Convenience for Blenheim Palace - good tea and coffee facilities in room
- Bar not very clean generally - Breakfast a ridiculous additional price
From the minute we arrived, staff were attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. In particular Poula, one of the front of house staff, deserves special commendation. She was absolutely superb and looked after our party like royalty. Fabulous facilities, excellent restaurant, conveniently located just eight miles from Oxford City Centre.
We looked around trying to find fault...and honestly couldn't. Superb hotel and we'll look forward to a return visit.
The hotel is divided to several properties,so not possible to book rooms near each other, the stairs, management were tooo strict re.check in/out time rate was a bit high
Friendly staff very helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent and well served if a little pricey. Overall our break was just what we wanted and would come again.
The hotel had loads of character and the staff were fantastic. We had a lovely suite with a four poster bed and the room was spotless. We had the full breakfast and it was great, you definitely won't leave hungry! The rates are a little on the pricey side but the service was impeccable and we were very well looked after. I would definitely recommend the hotel to others.
The hotel is perfectly situated and the room itself and breakfast were good. All the staff we came into contact with were very pleasant and efficient
The noise from the extraction fans in the kitchen below our bedroom (24) was very loud first thing in the morning, not an issue it seems at night as they had stopped by the time we turned in for the night. The cleaning in the bathroom could have been better and the pillows on the bed are awfully thin.
Charming hotel, with very pleasant and attentive staff. Rooms spacious and comfortable. I had the vegetarian breakfast which was surprisingly tasty.
We had dinnernd there a found the food underwhelming for the price.
The bed was extreamly comfortable. Possibly the most comfortable I slept in.
Tried to book on for breakfast but the cost was extortionate. So went to lovely tea shop a couple of doors down, for less than half the price.
the rooms, the surroundings and the staff
Good sized comfortable room. Good choice at breakfast, although some items carry a supplement. Helpful staff who sorted out a problem very quickly.
Food and drink are pricey, although food is vey well executed. There are other options in Woodstock if you don't want to pay these prices.
Our room was "nice" and we like the ambience of the Bear having stayed on quite a few occasions.
Breakfast was indifferent and the cooked breakfast had obviously been kept hot for some while rather than being cooked freshly.
the rooms were clean and tidy the rooms were well sized for what we paid. The food was good for the price,
Parking you need to be quick to get a park near your room. Staff were nice but not overly friendly. No directions were given to our room, we had to find ourselves.
Lots of charm and character. Service and staff were excellent. Wonderful distance (just a short stroll) to Blenheim Palace.
F & B prices are a bit on the high side.
Enjoyed our stay food and staff very good
Was made to feel very uncomfortable on checking in when told 25£ per person per night would be held even though you had my credit card details questioning again was told this was hotel policy. I have never come across this before in 4/5 star hotels I have stayed in before .we are booked onto Leeming Hotel Ullswater in Sept so assume the same will happen again
This was a return visit for us. We were students in the 70s and it was a popular venue for 21st birthdays! It was my husband's birthday treat following a day in Oxford. All great. Loved the room, worth upgrading, the evening meal and breakfast in our room.
Nothing at all to criticise.
The room was very comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. The majority of the staff were very professional and friendly.
We took dinner in the restaurant and it ws a dull experience. Service was slow and it appeared that there was nobody in overall charge. It lacked attention to its diners. Dessert took nearly 20 minutes and when I asked if there was a problem, the answer was 'No, but there are a couple of people before you'. Not the reply I was expecting. Also the price was high for the quality of the food.
Our room(40).The door was damaged at the bottom, the lights flickered constantly, the lukewarm shower. Noise from the pub opposite kept us awake.Could not park in the hotel car park, not enough spaces.Good job it was just the one night.
Just the general ambiance and the wonderful town that the historical Woodstock is.
Nothing really to complain about as the weather was so good A very very happy experience for us and out guests.
Room was very comfortable and well equipped. Excellent evening meal and excellent breakfast. Location perfect.
Professionalism of dining room staff did not match the excellent quality of the food.
Friendliness of staff
Access to bedroom
The atmosphere, the history.
The bed Restaurant staff
Nice but phoney receptionists (Corporate atmosphere) Breakfast disappointing. The toast was burnt and hard and my egg on toast was revolting.
Staff at the Hotel were nice, helpful and always ready to assist in any capacity.
I booked a twin room for my wife and I but on the first night could not sleep, noisy residents above. The furnishings were in need of updating and chairs quite old and uncomfortable. Breakfasts could be much improved. The poached eggs I had tasted of vinegar. I would not stay again at this hotel unless it improved its standards.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, very welcoming and friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent, as was the service. A great stay and we will be back!
There wasn't anything that we weren't happy about
