Beautiful hotel with such a historic feel to it. Staff very welcoming and helpful. We had a wonderful deluxe double room with a four posted, which I have to say is probably one of the most comfortable beds I have every slept in. Room very clean and with all the comforts you would require. We booked the restaurant on our first evening and enjoyed a fantastic meal of fine dining with very professional restaurant staff. The Hotel itself is an excellent location to hop on the local bus and visit the sites of Oxford or Blenheim Palace and their are no shortage of warm friendly pubs within a short walking distance of the hotel. There is also a good selection of restaurants nearby in the village also.
A perfect experience, well worth it.
Ambience and staff
very comfy bed
bathroom in room 10 is terrible. small, tired and low water pressure
Really enjoyed our stay st the Bear. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was so comfortable and spacious with everything that we needed including fresh milk for tea! Very good value with good hot breakfast and plenty of choice. Will certainly return.
Poor cleanliness of room dust on pictures and mirror cobwebs on wall, Damp in one corner, furniture very worn. Internal linings all falling out of curtains. very poor value for money on what was to be our first night away together in 13 years of marriage due to having a disabled son who requires 24/7 care. and this was the first time we had been able to get overnight care for him to enable us to have this one night away. Very disappointed and felt as if we didn't matter and would put up with any old room. not so much as have you had a good night was every thing ok thank you for staying with us. Just oh you've paid have you got the key bye. Photos of room can be provided.
Pleasant relaxing place to stay.
A little pricy but some good deals available if you shop around.
The staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and friendly. They really make this hotel.
Unfortunately, the service during our meal in the restaurant from one member of staff spoiled our meal.
Perfectly situated in the heart of Woodstock. Unique building. Good wine list. Staff polite. Views amazing. Bathrooms fabulous.
Restaurant always served cold food, portions very small for the price, dry amuse bouche that had stood around for a few hours, frozen solid sorbet. Room headboards are greasy - from people sitting in bed (yuck) - and grubby carpets. Place needs fresh eyes to see it from a guest perspective.
The decor of the room was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the room service was excellent. The welcome we recieved at reception was very warm and friendly. In all a fantastic stay which really made the weekend!
The location really illustrates the importance of research. We loved the surrounding shops and quaint restaurants.
I really had a problem with the price of the room. Paying £150 for a room no bigger than my bathroom at home is a worry. Overpriced breakfast as well didn't help the matter.
Warm comfortable lovely warm bar with good service and excellent drinks
Headboard grubby in initial room upgraded at a cost but very nice room then
Location and great breakfasts
The staff we friendly and the service was good. The location is very good. The Price was also good and included a full breakfast which was good.
The common areas are tired with the carpets and sofas worn. The bar smelt bad as if someone had spilt beer on the floor. The bed was too soft. It would be a very nice hotel if they spent a little money on it.
Lovely old coaching inn
Bathroom distinctly small, Room looked out straight at Reception, I hate the idea of a "free" wi-fi which requires me to give my details and to permit you to pass those details to others, or to use them for marketing purposes. For that reason alone I would not choose to use Macdonalds Hotels again.
The staff were great, couldn't do enough for us.. Room was lovely too worth the upgrade
The room was a little cold but it's an old building
Evening cocktail bar service poor due to lack of training
Beautiful suite with lots of little extras. Very friendly staff.
Breakfast service a little slow probably due to the last minute rush on a Sunday morning. Felt as though they needed more staff to cope.
The location and the old world charm of the hotel. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable as was the bed.
Our room was cooler than ideal but it was very cold outside. The staff in the restaurant at breakfast were not universally welcoming and varied a bit in style. We also had cold poached eggs and it was evident they were pre-prepared and then meant to have been re-heated.
Dining room prices for dinner and drinks far exceeded what we expected, not good value for money.
Room was large
Liked it all
being able to walk to Blenheim Palace, the choice of restaurants and pubs in Woodstock and the proximity of Oxford and ease of park and ride
Great room, attentive staff and great breakfast in bed
Everything but price of drinks
Price of drinks very expensive cheeper to walk across road to pub 50 yards ?bad marketing on there part
Great one night stay at The Bear. Staff v friendly. Comfy room altho bed was a little small but thats probably due to our increase in size over Xmas... Breakfast was amazing with a great deal of choice. Would recommend to everybody.
Layout & deco of the room N50; Bedding; comp gowns; crystal glasses.
One gown was dirty; there were hairs on the sheet and headboard was stained with a rather dirty cover over it
