Score from 303 reviews Excellent
Situated in central Woodstock, this charming 17th-century building is 8 miles north of Oxford. It’s restaurant overlooks the market square, and the 6 rooms all benefit from free wired internet.
Score from 177 reviews Excellent
The Feathers Hotel, situated in the center of historic Woodstock on the doorstep of Blenheim Palace. Originally 7 separate houses, the hotel boasts character and charm with antiques and log fires.
Score from 159 reviews Very good
One of England's oldest inns, with a history dating back over 700 years, The Shaven Crown is located in Shipton-under-Wychwood, 7 miles from Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds.
Score from 22 reviews Wonderful
being able to walk to Blenheim Palace, the choice of restaurants and pubs in Woodstock and the proximity of Oxford and ease of park and ride
Great room, attentive staff and great breakfast in bed
Everything but price of drinks
Price of drinks very expensive cheeper to walk across road to pub 50 yards ?bad marketing on there part
Great one night stay at The Bear. Staff v friendly. Comfy room altho bed was a little small but thats probably due to our increase in size over Xmas... Breakfast was amazing with a great deal of choice. Would recommend to everybody.
Layout & deco of the room N50; Bedding; comp gowns; crystal glasses.
One gown was dirty; there were hairs on the sheet and headboard was stained with a rather dirty cover over it
Breakfast was very poor and not good value for money
Location. Character of property.
Dinner and breakfast too expensive.
The restaurant manageress Private car park
Single glazing on a cold night. Cold breakfasts Misleading descriptions of "freshly squeezed orange juice". It is not! Poorly trained restaurant staff. General hotel layout with poorly designed ground floor and lack of comfort in reception areas.
Lovely location, nice welcome at reception, carparking, nice food, executive double room was as described , comfortable and warm during a very cold snap. Enjoyable stay.
Breakfast service at 9am was a bit disorganised. Drinks are expensive. Some language problems with foreign staff, such as asking for a spoon.....
Room was lovely, bed was really comfy and the staff were all really helpful and polite. Breakfast was great too!
Dinner was excellent and a nice log fire in the bar
No mending kits or shoe shines. Breakfast small and expensive. Heating in room had to be turned on. Bathroom requires refurbishment. Noisy pipes.
our stay was very short but it was perfect. Both dogs and owners were completely happy. Staff were very very friendly and really helpful. They seemed very happy to be working in their environment.
it would have been nice to have had designated parking as we crated the dogs. The staff were very happy to help with luggage and the dogs.
Booked the Macdonald Bear hotel for a weekend get away for the wife's birthday. Price was great and excellent value, certainly compared to what other hotels were offering (which wasn't a lot). Location was in a lovely small quiet town, with some good country pubs. Room was huge, comfortable, packed full of facilities (including your own coffee making machine!). Staff were super friendly and welcoming. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was excellent. Highly recommended
character and charm of the hotel very friendly welcome and an upgrade to a beautiful 4-poster room which was extremely comfortable -
I liked the wonderful ambience of the hotel and its location in a most beautiful historic town. The hotel was clean and warm and the staff were all very helpful. We were upgraded to a better room which was lovely.
The price of the drinks at the bar and at dinner was too high.
Lovely 1 night stay, great room with huge beamed walls and ceiling. Comfy bed, air was bit noisy until we found the switch to turn it off! Lovely old hotel with bags of character, uneven floors, old oak staircases etc. Breakfast was beautiful, menu options plus huge buffet/ fresh fruit/ cereals / cold meat and cheese etc... Would definitely stay again.
Lounge area Food
Nice room, great access to Woodstock. Good breakfast selection with croissants on par with France!
I got the impression that the hotel tried to cut costs with the quality of their staff and training. In terms of value, not worth the £200+ per night prices.
Breakfast was good
I paid for an upgrade to the classic room, however received a room very similar to the classic room picture Eventually the hotel changed the room to my satisfaction.
Old beams, real fires, great rooms, lovely bar. Brilliant location in the centre of Woodstock
Lovely friendly staff and great breakfast
Hotel decor is clean but is a bit dreary, not very modern,
This is a delightful, traditional country coaching house hotel. Our rooms were very well appointed and extremely comfortable and breakfast dinner were excellent.
The location was very convenient for Oxford and Woodstock itself is a beautiful little town. The Bear is picturesque with very welcome private parking and helpful and knowledgeable staff. A lovely relaxing place for a weekend getaway.
The ancient heating system in the bedrooms, which seems very temperamental with wall controls that are complicated to understand and soon throw everything out once all the buttons have been pressed!
The hotel offers plenty of quirky character and charm. The staff were outstandingly helpful and personable and seemed to be better trained than many staff in the big five star groups. The stay at the Bear surpassed my expectations and I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone looking for a boutique style base of operations from which to explore Blenheim and Oxford.
This is a character hotel and so don't expect the kind of things you might take for granted in a hotel chain. For example in our room the wardrobe was tiny taking up the width of a convinient alcove. Also there are no lifts. This should in no way put anyone off. The hotel delivers comfort and quality in spades.
