Serve the purpose Great value for money.
Good food. Good location for business.
Bathroom could do with revamp. Shower not good.
Very comfortable bed. Clean.
Hotel too tired. Too much noise, I was hearing everything (even snoring) from other rooms.
Staff and breakfast
Rooms are tired and need a refurb
The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was pretty good All staff were very friendly and helpful
The single rooms on the road are very noisy from just after 5 in the morning due to single glazing. On my stay there were also noisy upstairs neighbours
Good quality breakfast
Extractor Fan in bathroom seemed to be on constant - even with the door closed!
The friendly staff and the decent breakfast
The spartan room and noisy plumbing
room size facilities in the room
had a long wait for breakfast as our order apparently got lost about 40 minutes
Not much, breakfast was ok and the waitress was pleasant in the morning.
Staff were rude, room and bathroom was dirty and the bed was smelly.
Bed and size of room
Grubby and torn stair carpets; old brown furniture, tired old fashioned decor
Staff where all extremely helpful and all lovely
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Good value for money nice breakfast will stay again.
Rooms need a bit of tlc but for price quite adequate.
Our problem with the shower was fixed immediately. The beds were very comfortable
The poor breakfast staff were rushed off their feet, a few more of them wouldn't have gone a miss..
Breakfast was very poor, I order porridge, and english at the same time as they were busy, and the english arrived first, and then the porridge ,and the porridge wasn't, very nice
Convenient location and access to primary roads. Nice room and comfortable bed. Nice strong hot shower Manager was very helpful
Cooked breakfast was not very appealing. I had to carry all my luggage up a number of flights of stairs. No lifts or help. lighting in the room was not very good, especially if working on documents.
Unable to dine on Friday evening due to the kitchen being unable to cope. No lift.
Good location with plenty of parking. Comfy bed, plenty of hot water. Great breakfast.
Didn't realise we'd parked in a roadway in the car park as the yellow lines worn away .Did feel silly when asked to move the car!
Excellent location, room warm, shower excellent - plenty of power and hot water. breakfast lovely
Carpets in room desperately need replacing, didn't fancy walking on them in my bare feet.
Was very warm and comfortable at all times staff were so friendly, hotel is central and was full of character
Restaurant service was extremely slow and very muddled at evening dinner food really wasn't up to scratch as I could taste fish on the battered sausages which made me think it was cooked in the same oil as battered fish, however breakfast and service was amazing. Room 33 was very noisy in the evening and first thing possibly from fans in kitchen and outlook wasn't pleasant from window ie; empty cans of beer and cig ends
Hotel is very tired.
We have stayed at The Bear on many occasions. This was a gift to our daughter and son in law and they enjoyed it very much!
Part of the meal on Saturday night didn't show and they tried to charge them for it! Once it was pointed out to the waiter and corrected there was not even an apology!
Staff extremely friendly and breakfast good
Room (9) smelt, very noisy above the bar, tired, carpet stained, dirty curtains had to change room
Locallity and value for money. Good breakfast in pleasant surroundings.
Friendly and always helpful. Room was basic but very comfortable and just what I needed given I'd had a long day of travelling and train hopping with an overladen rucksack. Did what it said on the tin and, proximity to station probably saved my life given how tired I was coming off the train!
Small town issue of everywhere closing an hour earlier than advertised it seemed, and this extended to the chef who'd vanished by 9pm. Also had a bit of a wrestle with a collapsing curtain rail, not what I wanted after being on the train ill for 5 hours.
Good cooked Breakfast. Friendly staff
Needs a good overhaul, getting a bit tired now. Windows need fixing etc.
