perfect location for my work trip, printmaking at Gainsborough's House, Sudbury. Friendly staff, nice room with ensuite bathroom, including a bath. comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent with superb fresh fruit. I appreciated this. (although i didn't have a cooked breakfast).
one day my room was not cleaned - no doubt an accident as staff seemed excellent, friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who checked me in as was working in the breakfast area one day.
Initial brusque manner of the proprietor, she did become more pleasant. All of the beams and character had been boxed in to make more modern in our bedrooms. No disabled facilities. nowhere to get ready comfortably. Tiny bathroom, hard bed in room 6, Room 5 had broken tiles in bathroom, Room 1 had an extremely uncomfortable bed. Broken toilet seat in restaurant toilet.
a very good value for money hotel in a good location, friendly staff and good beer
Friendly, attentive staff.
Little to no wifi on the upper floor.
The Location The Food and Drink
The glass shelf over the basin The lack of cupboards / wardrobes. The lack of space for suitcases
the place is exelelnt staff were very helpfull and friendly, the food is frshly cooked and the steaks are some of the best ive ever eaten cannot recomend them enough, will definitley be going back again
only the bed, could do with a new one
Friendly staff. Lovely room. Good breakfast. Sudbury is a great place to visit.
Breakfast, good choice, cleanliness, location, well laid out family rooms.
Needed a map to find rear car park, although some parking to front.
Great staff, good breakfast, comfy beds, good location in middle of town
Room was quite dark and seemed a little tired, a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss
Had top room, very spacious and quiet, clean with great views of the Market Square. Staff very friendly and breakfast very good. Recommended!
Room very nice. Staff were excellent. Food was very good. As well as breakfasts, which were very good, we dined there twice. Our waitress (Kate) was exceptional ( and very patient at a large family gathering ordering food and changing minds)
Car parking is difficult to get to.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, although we didn't have dinner there the breakfast was very nice. I would recommend a stay here and we would return no problem..
Breakfast Large Room
Comfortable bed, quiet room, private parking (though spaces limited), excellent cooked breakfast and helpful staff. Good value for a short stay.
Very narrow entrance and stairs (not good when carrying luggage), very small bathroom, not well lit/ventilated, limited, short breakfast times at weekends. Walls paper-thin!
Old fashioned market town hotel. Lovely staff, excellent service, great atmosphere. Tiled floor in my bathroom needed renovation, otherwise, a very pleasant place to stay.
Leaving to go back to work.
Lovely, clean village with kind people.
The staff were really friendly, breakfast was perfect and the room was very comfortable. I've stayed in a lot of hotels whilst on business and The Black Boy was definitely one I'd go back to
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food very good. Room very clean and comfortable.
Car park a bit difficult at times.
This was my third stay at The Black Boy and I will stay here again when on business in this area. The bedrooms are good and the place is quiet. Breakfast is freshly cooked and always a high standard. The young lady behind the bar is always very pleasant. The bedrooms could do with a small desk/table for people who need to work in the evening, I could use my laptop in the bar area but it closed early.
We had a great family room - two adjoining rooms, so we were able to put our baby to sleep in one room whilst being able to have the light and tv on in our room. We did have to go through the baby's room to get to the bathroom, but that wasn't a major problem. The staff were helpful and friendly, and lent us an iron when we needed it. And the room was a good size, nicely decorated and clean.
The wifi wasn't great - it was via the cloud, so you had to sign up to get an account, and it kept logging you out after some time had passed. There was no bath in our family room - not ideal for babies/young children. We could hear people talking in the corridor very clearly, so I got woken up whenever other guests arrived home during the night.
Good location centre of town and excellent breakfast.
Very hot room so had to have windows opened so very noisy outside during the night with heavy goods traffic and bin collection of bottles at 5.15am. TV didn't work.
Lovely large room. Good range of fresh fruit for breakfast as well as cooked options. Very prompt breakfast service.
Check in closes at 9pm so not convenient if you want
Good room and location
Shame breakfast starts at 730 weekdays as not convenient for business clients who have to be out early. Desk in room would have been good
I've only stayed there 2 times so far but I was very impressed with the service and staff. Excellent rooms, a friendly owner who remembered me from my first stay, and breakfast was a delight.
Great location in Sudbury, comfortable room, friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
