The Crown Hotel is a family-run historic inn and restaurant, built in 1610. It retains many interesting features, such as Tudor cellars and exposed internal beams.
Score from 158 reviews Very good

Quality of the bed and mattress. And the size of the room. Food still excellent.
Bit short of drawer space.
For a bustling pub on a busy market place square, the rooms were remarkably quiet. Breakfast excellent. Room was very comfortable and clean.
We upgraded for £10 extra so was a little more spacious. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast.
The fact its haunted - major downer. Noisy. Finding the car park is really difficult and then finding a space in it is even worse!
The central location
Being coerced into watching TV with our breakfast. (Not everyone wants to watch the News with breakfast when they're on holiday!) The first morning we were allowed to move to an adjacent area where we couldn't see or hear the TV. The landlord was friendly and accommodating. The second morning the landlady turned it down but became sneering and contemptuous when we wanted either to have it off or to sit somewhere else. She said 'Oh well, if you want to let life pass you by ...'. So we paid and left without breakfast. We were in a very nice family room but the bedside tables to one of the beds seemed a bit dangerous: so close to the pillows that the sharp corners were liable to poke your eyes out if you rolled over. We put spare pillows against them as protection.
Comfortable, clean, and good value for money.
The one way traffic system in Sudbury made navigating to the car park less than straightforward. The car park might benefit from parking bay markings.
Rooms were nice and clean, the owner was very helpful and welcoming. Good value for money
Parking wasn't easy to find and there wasn't enough of it, luckily 3/4 of our party's cars we left at the wedding venu, otherwise they would not have fitted in!
Everything was perfect.Very friendly and servicemined staff, beautiful room, good food and not expensive.
Lovely building, friendly staff and great location. Good breakfast.
Wifi does not reach to top rooms, and is "free" but marketing-supported.
Location is great it is only 10 to 15 min from most of the weeding venues around. We arrived and have a nice welcome and our room was clean and big have like a second room inside for my daughter, she loved it as it has its own tv...
the staffs were really friendly.
i was not informed about the wifi.
Position and staff
The Market setting up at 5:06am. Not good when your alarm goes off at 5:30am on a work day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were in room 3 (superior double) which was very spacious. Great evening menu in the restuarant and good selection for breakfast. Great location for Sudbury.
Very tricky trying to find the car park the first time; had to go round several times and gave up. Ended up asking one of the staff to come with us in the car which they did but once we'd found it, it was easy! Rooms at the front could do with having secondary or double glazing as it was quite noisy when the market outside was being set up on Saturday morning, (market also held on Thursdays).
perfect location for my work trip, printmaking at Gainsborough's House, Sudbury. Friendly staff, nice room with ensuite bathroom, including a bath. comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent with superb fresh fruit. I appreciated this. (although i didn't have a cooked breakfast).
one day my room was not cleaned - no doubt an accident as staff seemed excellent, friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who checked me in as was working in the breakfast area one day.
Initial brusque manner of the proprietor, she did become more pleasant. All of the beams and character had been boxed in to make more modern in our bedrooms. No disabled facilities. nowhere to get ready comfortably. Tiny bathroom, hard bed in room 6, Room 5 had broken tiles in bathroom, Room 1 had an extremely uncomfortable bed. Broken toilet seat in restaurant toilet.
a very good value for money hotel in a good location, friendly staff and good beer
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. My room was right at the top and overlooked the main street. The price I paid was value for money because I booked on a discounted deal, I'm not sure I would have paid any more willingly. The small car park at the rear of the building was useful. Overall, it was nice friendly place and I would return.
As it is an old building and the windows are a feature and not double glazed, there was a warning for front facing rooms about the noise on market days (in my case on Saturday) but I had no trouble sleeping through the set up. However, I found the traffic far noisier on Friday morning when I was woken at 6 am by commuters starting their journeys to work. The breakfast was adequate, but not something to rave about. Parking was ok the car park wasn't in the best condition and very dark at night and the pathway leading to the side entrance door for use by guests was in complete darkness, although there were lights along the route which were apparently switched off by mistake. I personally think they should install a security light to come on as someone approaches. All things I could live with, but others might feel more strongly about them.
Handy to get a drink. Breakfast was lovely.
Very bassic room but for a high price. stayed in better for cheaper. car park was hard to find was explained when booking to head for a certain road.
Friendly, attentive staff.
Little to no wifi on the upper floor.
The Location The Food and Drink
The glass shelf over the basin The lack of cupboards / wardrobes. The lack of space for suitcases
the place is exelelnt staff were very helpfull and friendly, the food is frshly cooked and the steaks are some of the best ive ever eaten cannot recomend them enough, will definitley be going back again
only the bed, could do with a new one
We were attending a wedding in the area and booked a triple room to stay Fri-Sun. Having got stuck for hours in traffic on our way there, the staff at the black boy were excellent at letting us check in later than we should have. Everything from start to finish was good about this hotel. Breakfast was second to none. They arranged our taxi's to and from the venue, and even called us up after we left to say we had left something behind in our room. Not much noise from the Saturday market as stated. Clean spotless rooms and comfy beds.
Friendly staff. Lovely room. Good breakfast. Sudbury is a great place to visit.
Breakfast, good choice, cleanliness, location, well laid out family rooms.
Needed a map to find rear car park, although some parking to front.
Great staff, good breakfast, comfy beds, good location in middle of town
Room was quite dark and seemed a little tired, a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss
