Good breakfast and friendly service.
Room quite cramped, facilities limited, shower like a lukewarm watering can, bath towels tiny and thin.
The room was spotless. Somewhat basic, but we were more than happy about this as we weren't after anything fancy. There's a lot of charm to the hotel (and the pub). Staff were very friendly and attentive. We were only really disappointed by the fact we weren't staying longer.
The room was rather hot, even after turning off the radiator, but it was bearable (we opened a window) and wasn't so bad that we felt we had to make any complaints. The shower kept going cold, but I think it was due to it being an old building. Felt like it was when someone else turned on a tap elsewhere in the building that the water adjusted. Breakfast was £8.95 which is comparable to most other places and was delicious (I had a full English), however my partner being vegetarian wasn't interested in the majority of the breakfast items so would be good for a continental only option or to be able to buy food items individually (e.g. she had egg on toast and a plum, which makes £8.95 seem expensive). None of these negatives changed our opinion of The Black Boy, we'd definitely stay again.
A good breakfast with good fresh coffee
We couldn't control the temperature in the shower and so couldn't use it.
Location Easy to park Room very clean and comfortable.
Paying extra for breakfast Free wifi only through The Cloud - involved setting up an account with privacy settings that were unacceptable to me (no way of opting out of marketing communications).
The staff were absolutely brilliant. Welcoming, helpful, and the room was cosey, clean, and comfortable to stay in.
The sausages on the cooked breakfast were a bit pants
Great staff very friendly food was excellent and good range of drinks at the bar
Very lovely building and very well maintained. Very good 'local' atmosphere and helpful and friendly staff.
Staff very friendly. Good central location not far to walk from railway station. Great breakfast that set you up for the day.
Warm rooms , friendly & helpful staff
Great location and nice staff. Good breakfast.
Sunday breakfast finished at 10am, but check out time was 10am, having said that, we arrived early and they let us check in.
Hospitality was excellant very friendly food was value for money and well presented
Having to be out of the room by 10am
Simple but clean and great location excellent breakfast, staff very friendly and helpful
We had room 3 and it was huge and comfy and had a bath in the en suite which was a bonus. It was perfect for us and plenty if parking too
Being so close to where we were attending an event. Great large room sparkling clean bathroom. Good selection for breakfast. Hotel owner wonderful
No peppermint tea in the room. Room over the main bar, so very noisy and found hear conversations until 1am
This was our second visit to the Black Boy. We stayed in a smaller room this time but the sleep quality was much better as it was not at the front of the building. Breakfast lovely, staff always good and helpfull.
Needs blackout curtains or a blind for better sleep.Keys need marking somehow a in the dark or eve daylight fiddling with them is a pain, coloured co-ordinated fobs may help. Minor issues though.
Accommodating staff who kindly organised taxi for us at very short notice. Nice clean and quiet room
Breakfast and booking out times are quite tight
A lovely old inn right in the middle of town - ideal if you're arriving by public transport. The room and bathroom were spotlesssly clean and well-maintained - the uneven floors and sloping ceilings reminding you that you are in an historic old building and giving it a 'cosy' feeling. Good water pressure in the bathroom - the bath filled very quickly and shower was powerful. A very nice place to stay and good value for £55.
I was in Room 5 and another reviewer mentioned noise from a generator outside that room. Although I could certainly hear the generator it wasn't sufficient to disturb my sleep (although I did have the window closed). It's only a small point but there was no chair in the room. Also the check-out time of 10am is too early for weekends!
Friendly Staff, good Food & Beer, suited me down to the ground
Staff where friendly and helpful food was fantastic. Accomodation was good
The staff were particularly friendly and helpful and the accommodation was lovely. A very nice stay
Breakfast was excellent
Woken up at 4am by a truck unloading , the being woken up again at 6am by the market . We had missed the small print !
The room was really lovely. We were staying the night as we were at a wedding in Sudbury so unfortunately we didn't spend much time in the room. It was large and included a sofa, double bed, TV, tea and coffee fascilities, hair dryer and dressing table.
When we came down for breakfast there were no menu's on the table so we weren't sure what was available. We were offered eggs, bacon or both. Just before ours arrived, the table next to ours were brought over plates of full English's. We would have had these had we known they were on offer.
