Very basic and no ensuite but price did not reflect this. Also 9-10 window for breakfast quite limited.

The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Food was excellent, the room very comfortable and of a high standard. Would certainly recommend The Black Boy. The location is also excellent.

I found no negative aspects.

I love this place! The staff were more than helpful, the room was fantastic, the location perfect. The locals in the bar are all friendly and willing to chat to a lone traveller and make them feel at home. Breakfast was superb. Hot, tasty and served as quickly but without being rushed.

Having read reviews I prepared myself for an average place with average standards. The Black Boy is perfect if you want modestly- priced b&b serving good beers. My single room was larger than expected, pleasantly decorated and the shared bathroom facility was fine. The owners are a very welcoming and helpful couple, My full English breakfast was perfect. The most pleasant part of my stay was that I struggled to find a speck of dust, it was very clean throughout. The tv in my room was a flatscreen with freeview. I would definitely return when next in that area.

The location was fantastic being in the beautiful Stour Valley. The food was good and the room was full of character. For one night it was ideal and certainly not expensive.

Having to share a bathroom was not ideal, but at the cost of the room for the night including breakfast it was not too much of a problem.

We stayed at the Black Boy while attending a wedding in Lavenham. The staff were very pleasant and helpful especially in the morning when they were very accommodating over breakfast choices. The rooms were a good size and the only small problem was in our double room the sink was very slow to empty. Parking on a Saturday was a little tricky as there is a market in Sudbury and a one way system we managed to go round at least 3 times! We were in a terrible rush though as we only just arrived at the wedding before the bride!

The only negative was the problem with our sink in the room but no doubt this is easy to fix and didn't really cause us too much trouble.

Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Food was also above average in the bar/restaurant. Room #1 is very spacious and has a beautiful view of the high street

I wish that there were more en-suite rooms. I would stay here more often.

Nice place above a pub in the centre of town with a private parking area. Friendly staff serving a lovely cooked breakfast.

Location was central and price was good for the area. Good breakfast.

Very noisy with drunken youths outside on the main square at w/e - I was woken every 2 hours. Check-in closes early at 21:00 despite being a pub!

A great historical building with lovely friendly staff, fantastic food (best in the area from our experience) and a homely atmosphere. Easy access to shops from the hotel. All in all a great place to stay.

Being an avid reader would like a bedside lamp on either side of the double bed.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful (thanks!). Great town centre location. Reasonably-priced menu on offer but opportunity also to walk to several decent restaurants close by. Shops on the doorstep.
