Friendly, hospitable staff. Excellent menu at a resonable price. Central location. Awkward finding car park without prior instruction.

I was very excited to be able to get an upgrade from a single room with shared bathroom to a double room with ensuite! The room was huge! The facilities, while a little dated, were very well maintained and covered all the basics. They had just had new doors put on all of the rooms the day I arrived. The location in the town centre was excellent and there was a lovely view on the church from the window of my room. All in all I was very pleased. Excellent value for money. I would definitely stay there again. The steps down in the morning were a bit scary with my suitcase, very steep!

Great location, good beer. My room No 3 was somwhat shabby, the wardrobe falling apart (look at the top rear left) someones spit has been left on the light above the sink (I jest you not) the whole place needs a very, very good referb. If a Travel In or Premier inn opens up near the town cerntre then for an extra £20, (my room was £35) then I would stay in a modern bright, clean hotel.

Convenient location to walk from. Very basic and no ensuite but price did not reflect this. Also 9-10 window for breakfast quite limited.

I love this place! The staff were more than helpful, the room was fantastic, the location perfect. The locals in the bar are all friendly and willing to chat to a lone traveller and make them feel at home. Breakfast was superb. Hot, tasty and served as quickly but without being rushed.

Having read reviews I prepared myself for an average place with average standards. The Black Boy is perfect if you want modestly- priced b&b serving good beers. My single room was larger than expected, pleasantly decorated and the shared bathroom facility was fine. The owners are a very welcoming and helpful couple, My full English breakfast was perfect. The most pleasant part of my stay was that I struggled to find a speck of dust, it was very clean throughout. The tv in my room was a flatscreen with freeview. I would definitely return when next in that area.

Not much, you got what you paid for - a bed for the night. Noisy pump going all night, market day twice a week which means you cannot open the windows and no sleep after 4.30 A.M. plus loud shower noise. Plastic table cloths in eating area, no breakfast menus and supermarket own cereals.

The location was fantastic being in the beautiful Stour Valley. The food was good and the room was full of character. For one night it was ideal and certainly not expensive. Having to share a bathroom was not ideal, but at the cost of the room for the night including breakfast it was not too much of a problem.

Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Food was also above average in the bar/restaurant. Room #1 is very spacious and has a beautiful view of the high street I wish that there were more en-suite rooms. I would stay here more often.

The staff and locals were very friendly an made me feel very welcome durying my stay, the service was excellent. The food was excellent, I recommend the Cumberland Sausage. The Breakfast was really good too. The Beer was also top grade, I recomend the Greene King - really smooth and full of flaver. The room was really nice, with a TV, Kettle and coffee and tea. As for the price of the room, it was more than reasonalble (£35 per night for a single bed room) and this included a breakfast. I will be using the Black Boy again when I come down to see family again. Nothing

A great historical building with lovely friendly staff, fantastic food (best in the area from our experience) and a homely atmosphere. Easy access to shops from the hotel. All in all a great place to stay. Being an avid reader would like a bedside lamp on either side of the double bed.

Central location, big airy rooms wholly unlike the sterile, identical boxes found in purpose-built modern hotels.

Very good restaurant, friendly staff. The facilities were old and tired. The room was very small, and there was no ensuite, although at the price other hotels would definitely have provided one. The staff were lovely but the landlady was unreliable, and her attitude and actions detracted from the enjoyment of the visit.

Needs a bit of tlc and didn't realise the room wasn't ensuite.....Don't stay on a Wednesday night if you want to sleep later than 05.00am as the Market gets set up outside your window at this time.
