Poor staff dreadful food
Hotel furniture and furnishings very good
We knew about the scaffolding and the work being undertaken we asked for a top floor but was given a 1st floor room because the top floor had work being done. why weren't we told this before we booked
Good location, good value for money. Staff friendly and helpful.
Free glass of wine when the restaurant staff dropped lots of crockery in the all-but-empty dining room.
Only continental breakfast provided before 8am on a weekend and at the same cost as a cooked breakfast. Needless to say, I went without on both days!
Staff great . Room clean , hotel nice & clean too.nice bar facilities & was able to park car .
Mens toilets , could be better room good but prefer more space .
Room was beautiful. Very clean. Decor was stunning. Would highly recommend. Plan to stay there again soon.
There is picturesque scenery a great quiet location to kick back and relax
Breakfast consisted of standard greasy-spoon cafe ingredients offered at twice the price you'd expect to pay for such. Not value for money. Couldn't get dinner one night without having to wait for over an hour and a half due to functions being held. Top tip - guests pay you too so if you're going to be busy get more staff in to help! Went out instead. Pointed out that there was a blood smear on the door frame if my bathroom and asked if it could be cleaned up. It wasnt. Did it myself so at least I knew it would be done.
Large comfortable rooms
Bit cold in the rooms
Just 15 min away from the Eurotunnel terminal.Beautiful building - a much more attractive alternative to Premier Inn at a very fair price too.
Breakfast is a bit pricey. Same price for little children and vegetarians as for the normal full English breakfast.
Was really impressed with my stay. Staff were fantastic, wifi reached our room and not just reception. Even the TV was a good quality up to date lg
Comfortable and historic. A lovely experience. I'd definitely go back. Great shower!
The beds were very hard.
Not a real complaint, but language issues and not fully understanding the hotel system ,from a member of the night staff led to a confusion about the restaurant booking on our return leg.
Interior design, furniture, pictures on the walls, view out of the window
soap could be different
I could bring my dog and there was a bed provided for her. The room was nice and clean. I enjoyed the stay.
Staff and food
Slightly tired rooms which are improving
Good service and food
Mattress seen better days
We were upgraded to a lovely refurbished room which was beautifully done and spacious and warm :0) also had early morning alarm
Nothing about hotel - just wish had more time to rmax and enjoy - arrived in dark - left in dark!
Rooms warm and comfortable.
Definitely there in the 'off' season - public spaces like the bar were partially shut during reasonable hours. Breakfast was patchy - not available one day. Paper requested only delivered once and at the end of the day. Disappointed to receive dirty cutlery on both days I ate there, and there was spilled wine on the stairs which was not cleaned during my stay. Would have liked a room with a view since the hotel was so clearly empty!
Staff were very polite and helped as best they could
Clearly many of the rooms in the hotel have been renovated and redecorated recently, but certainly not all. We booked a superior room and were sent to a cavernous, dark, drafty, cold and damp room where the bed folded down from the wall and the windows didn't close properly. It was nothing like what we were led to expect from the pictures and voluntarily downgraded to a smaller room so we would at least be warm. The second room was no better and we left our stay a night early, even though we could get no refund on this. The staff were as helpful as they could be but we definitely wouldn't come back
Comfort of hotel, lovely rooms
Refused breakfast at 8 30am was told we had to come back in an hour as it was busy, try telling a four year old that!! Some staff at breakfast could not speak English and didn't even know what orange juice was!
Everything about he hotel was excellent. The room was lovely, the bathroom was excellent, the food in the restaurant was very good and the staff were extremely good throughout the hotel. We were expecting a room that wasn't so lovely due tot he price and taking the dog with us so were even more pleasantly surprised by how lovely the room was. They also bent over backwards to accommodate the dog with a bowl and dog bed provided and allowing us to eat in the bar lounge witht he dog in tow.
Not exactly a dislike but the mattress on the bed was so thick that the flat sheet only just tucked in and easily untucked. A bigger sheet would have been nice.
Ghe hotel was very comfortable and the staff very welcoming
The restaurant opened at 7 as we were going to a show locally that started at 7.30 we had to find somewhere else to eat
The location is perfect being almost on TheLeas from where there are great views of the Channell and walks, all on the flat, perfect for a couple with some mobility issues. The staff are very friendly.
The hotel is a bit tired and in need of refurbishment which is happening in some of the bedroom areas. There is no really comfortable lounge for residents and a beautiful old building like that needs a real fire going ( not a pretend gas one and I never found even that on!) to relax by on cold and winters days. I found the bed very uncomfortable which was a big problem as we stayed for 6 nights. A dead shrub in the entrance porch is not a good first impression and something that need not happen as is so easily remedied. It is this lack of attention to detail that lets it down.
