Good location, lovely old public rooms. Dogs were allowed.
We were in an un-refurbished bedroom, very small 4' bed, hard, room not good.
Comfortable hotel full of characterandwell situated. Friendly and helpful staff. Food at the bar and breakfast was excellent.
Comfortable entrance hall. Excellent food and polite staff.
Needs some TLC in parts.
Free parking, free wifi, Good location.
The location is great, 5 mins walk from centre of Harrogate. The reception is very grand and staff seem friendly and welcoming. That is all the good parts.
The room was poor for £120 per night. Old decor, box tv in our twin room. The whole hotel looks fairly run down with all the signs not attached to the walls but on the floor. Breakfast was pretty average served in a room with wallpaper hanging off all the walls.
Nowadays it is so difficult to be accompanied by one’s dog in a hotel. At the Cairns it is the opposite! Not only were we allowed to bring him - he was even greeted by his first name, and was allowed to blush under the cuddle from the receptionist. Furthermore, the hotel was set in beautiful surroundings, and the building itself had this old English atmosphere which almost makes you feel a lord and a lady when ascending and transcending the beautiful staircases in the commodious hall. The staff were very friendly and helpful: they all seem to enjoy their work.
breakfast size of room and en suite complimentary goodies car park
Car park was large. Breakfast was included in price. Reasonable sized room. Beautiful grand old Hotel. Free wifi. Good location.
This, like many large old Hotels in Harrogate could do with a refurb, keep all the original features but update to modern standards.
Nothing really stood out
Nothing really stood out
Price, large room, lovely power shower and tremendous hot cooked breakfast, which was included in the rate, unlike many other hotels!!!
Nothing, super hotel, please ignore the muppets who moan about everything.
short walk to centre ; close proximity to restaurants; free parking on site; breakfast.
Excellent location, really good large and safe parking. Lovely room, comfortable bed. They take dogs which is very pleasing - our Westie loved it. Really good breakfast which was included. Could not fault it in the above respects.
Terrible evening meal, pork hard and grisly. The evening meal needs improving - not worth the money - would not eat there again but would stay. It is the only thing that lets this lovely old hotel down.
Excellent location easy walk to town centre. Best breakfast by far. Plenty of room in the hotel and brilliant car parking.
Cant think of anything.
Staff welcoming and friendly, rooms clean and warm, plenty of choice for breakfast which was very satisfying. No problems regarding pet dog which accompanied us.
No problem with hotel, Our visit was too short - would like to have stayed longer.
We had a comfortable stay at the Cairn and will visit again next year!
Professional courteous staff, good restaurant, spacious comfortable lounges with impressive decor.
No access to drinking water in our room and mattresses rather hard.
We had two Breakfasts and one evening meal. The Food and Service was excellent
The first room we saw, although well furnished was very dark during the day.
room/bed/hotel and staff excellent
evening meal could be better quality
The girl who checked us in was really helpful and friendly, makes a great first impression.
Lovely staff, all meals etc enhanced by good service. The hotels architecture, stained glass windows etc are lovely....walking into the lobby is like stepping into a grander age.
Our room on this particular stay was very hot, the bathroom radiator was stuck on and it was almost too hot to touch. We were having a continued spell of warm weather and it was inadequate to merely open the windows. It would be nice to have at least a ceiling fan. A fridge in the room would also be useful.
Location of hotel
View from room 312 was of burnt out outbuildings belonging to the hotel. Noise of dog barking in one of the opposite rooms.
Very spacious reception . Music in one of the function rooms but did not disturb the rest of bars etc. Very spacious twin room. Reasonably priced.
double room was adequate although slightly small.
Old world atmosphere. The bus stop outside!
Wasps in the bathroom. Obviously a nest nearby. Did report it.
Good location friendly and helpful staff large Hotel with a lot of history plenty of space and lounging rooms. Bath room was large and well appointed ,good. Good breakfast with plenty of choice Bar menu is good and well served not much choice of real ale Over all good and would go back
Lack of draw space in room and could do with an extra bedroom chair
The building and grounds were attractive
Having phoned to say we were delayed on the motorway, I was told that dinner was only served until 8.30 p.m. We checked in at 19.45, when the young man behind the counter enquired whether we would like help with the luggage. Having been told that we did he said we should wait for the receptionist to return and disappeared. We were eventually checked in by the receptionist, who said our room was on the first floor - I pointed out that we had asked for a ground floor room with shower, as my husband is disabled. She replied that there was a lift and the room was nearby. A porter eventually arrived to help with the luggage and showed us to a room about 100 metres away from the lift (two lots of doors), a too great a distance for my husband, who was exhausted by the time he made it to the room. We then discovered that the ensuite bathroom had a bathtub, not walk in shower - neither of us is capable of climbing in and out of baths. We went into the dining room at 20.35 and were told we could have dinner. The menu comprised a choice of ham with parsley sauce, shepherd's pie, chicken "stroganoff" and a fish dish which neither of us fancied. The meat was overcooked and dry, and the so-called stroganoff contained mixed vegetables, not the creamy mushroom stroganoff sauce. Breakfast was a "buffet", which entailed my walking all around the dining room to get food for my husband and myself - the toast was cold and hard. Dinner that night was just as bad, with the main courses including meat balls, fish chowder. After having signed for our pre-dinner drinks, I was then challenged to produce my specimen signature (on a piece of paper issued at reception the night before). I could not find it, and was asked to return to the room to find it, so eventually signed on my credit card. We decided to avoid the main course and just have starter and dessert, which we were originally told was not possible, but did have that.
