Score from 174 reviews Very good
Opened on Queen Victoria's coronation day in June 1838, the Royal Bath Hotel was the first hotel in Bournemouth. It offers 3 hotel restaurants, a health spa and lovely sea views.

The view from the restaurant,, room and bar great and we enjoyed the outdoor heated swimming pool. The food is good value for money.
The faded granduer and clenliness
Very steep slope which meant the gardens were gorgeous but walking up not so good on old knees.
we had a large bathroom but only had a small bath in it. bed was a nice size but the pillows were small and no support to them as when you lay your head on them they just go flat.
Staff, location, facilities, spa
Poor internet connection
We opted for a room with a sea view and were not disappointed. We could see most of the action of the Air Show from our window. The hotel offers good facilities for all ages. Lovely garden area. Friendly, efficient and attentive staff. Bar/Bistro food menu reasonably priced, tasty and fresh.
The only thing that bothered us was the fact that we had to search for a parking space. The spaces for the hotel are limited and include on street parking also, which on an extremely busy weekend like the one we opted for was a bit tricky. Luckily we found the last space in the rear car park.
This hotel was in a lovely location to the Bournemouth Air Festival and we enjoyed our stay. However although the bedroom had a lovely view and was spacious the carpet was absolutely filthy. I have thrown better carpet away. The linen and towels were of good quality though and the staff in the restaurant and throughout the hotel were exceptional.
Dirty carpets, dirty windows and the paintwork on the outside of this hotel needs attention.
Room needs to be more update with kingsize beds and walk in showers Coffee not good at breakfast overpriced
good pleasant stay. good meal in the gallery added bonus of red arrows flying past,
indoor pool wasnt as warm as i expected
The room was lovely and we were pleased to have the benefit of wifi. If we had stayed longer we would have used the leisure facilities. Lovely position.
The breakfast was mediocre. We chose cereal with fresh fruit....it would have been nice to have to option of granola as well as muesli. The cooked breakfast did not entice us.
Really lovely location and great staff will to help always
Carpets could do with a change
• Location • Size of room and room facilities • The food at breakfast was good. The haddock which looked nice with freshly poached eggs. Pity I was not offered a menu. • The cooked food was good, particularly the scrambled egg, which is rarely seen these days. • Reception was friendly, informative and efficient. • Hotel facilities were good and I enjoyed the pool and the grounds in particular. • I booked late and the room price was very reasonable. I had a dual aspect room, one with a sea view. • While I seem to have written a lot on what could be improved, My experience was overwhelmingly positive and I wish that I had stayed for more than one night. I definitely intend to return.
• The breakfast experience: o I was sat at the back of the restaurant when there were tables by the window (was this because I was a single diner?) o I had to ask for more teapots, cups, plates, milk and juice. I think there should be one member of staff who ensures that customers do not run out of things in the buffet area. o When I asked for help and assistance, the staff seemed too busy. Their body language was not good, tutting, huffing, waving their arms about, raised voices, it all looked a bit out of control to me. o I liked having fresh cut butter on the tables, but watch what happens if their is unused butter left from a previous sitting and the table is being cleaned. A spray cleaner is used - the butter is not removed or covered - guess how much spray goes on the butter. o There was no menu. Had I know that there were alternatives to the breakfast buffet, I would have chosen one of them, like haddock which looked nice with freshly poached eggs. • The evening bar man was poor. o I think that I speak very clearly and have good diction. Having repeated my order twice, as he looked confused after the first time, he started to prepare what I had not asked for. I had to correct him three times. o I also said that I was intending to take the drinks to my room and asked for a bowl of nuts too and a tray as I was going to take them upstairs. o I had to ask for a tray a second time. o I found this experience unnecessarily frustrating and let the other staff, who were very good, down. • The room o The weather was very hot during my visit. The sash ropes on one window were broken and the window would not stay open. All but one other windows did not open as they had been painted over. If a room has poor ventilation and no air conditioning, thought should be given to providing a fan for guests. o While showering I adjusted the height of the shower as I am tall and the riser rail fell away from the mounting and landed in the bath.
Good food, nice bar, clean.
Parking poor./ difficult.
breakfast and bar area good staff good
room we had, had no view and frosted glass. the room had stained carpets only one set of towels for the two of us,
Facilities were superb and the range and quality of breakfast was excellent.
Nothing worth metioning.
Public rooms are very welcoming. Staff is very friendly but not well trained.
The furniture and bedding needs updating
We were in the 'West Wing'- very quiet with lovely large, comfortable room. The Roman Spa and gym were great. The breakfast was excellent too (buffet style). A short walk through the lovely hotel gardens leads you to Boscombe Pier. Bournemouth only a 30 minute walk along the prom.
2 Heated pools that are actually warm; Hot tub; Kids club;
Coffee machine is far from the best.
Great stay at the chine. Near to the beech great all round holiday.
Wish it had an adults only bar bit much habing children running round shouting.
Great scenary. Nice swimming pool area. Lovely walk to the beach. Great view form the dining room. Interesting old-fashioned lift.
The bird who did a whoopsy on my right shoulder whilst sitting in the magic garden!!
Very friendly staff especially behind the bar. Facilities very nice , close to the beach, has been allocated in the west wing but no problem with changing the room to the main building. Great sea view. Reception staff very helpfull. Even when the weather is not good you can spend time nicely inside the hotel.
Rooms look better on the picture then in reality. Average breakfast, not much value for the money we spent on the room.
Good standard of traditional hotel comforts.
Some of the reception staff could speak more slowly. Just talk to me, don't rattle off your welcome speech.
Staff were wonderful and really went the extra mile. Atmosphere and setting were charming.
Our room with a balcony snd sea view was through netting and over a large flat roof, which was quite unattractive really. Hardly worth paying a premium for. From what I could see this would not affect many rooms though. Also the noise from a wedding under us was very loud until quite late, though we were warned on arrival and windows were open all night due to the heat wave we've been having.
Sea views. Comfort.
The hotel was well appointed and easy to find. Staff were welcoming and friendly, the room, clean, tidy, and comfortable. I didn't want all the usual bells and whistles that some hotels give so found the Chine met my needs quite well.
There was nothing of importance not to like. One observation would be that parking is not ideal and you may have to park a little distance away but this is not a major problem.
