Cock72-74 High Street, MK11 1AH Stony Stratford (Show map) Good, Score from 62 reviews“We loved the history, also the sloping squeeky floors, so easy to walk out into the small attractive shopping centre, there are many places to eat out but the hotel its self had a really good menu and the food is excellent.”
Jennifer,
Farnborough, Hants
Situated on the main street in the charming market town of Stony Stratford, this historic 15th-century coaching inn offers bright, airy accommodations with free Wi-Fi and tasty food. Each spacious room has a TV and tea/coffee making facilities, with hairdryers available in some rooms and irons and ironing boards available upon request. The Cock became famous in the great age of coach travel. Travellers staying at the hotel and at the adjacent Bull inn would compete with each other in telling outrageous tales of the road. It is from this that the British idiom “a Cock and Bull Story” derives. Guests can enjoy the cozy sofas and warm fire in the Snug Bar, which serves a range of freshly prepared bar meals. The shops, pubs and attractions of Milton Keynes can be reached in just 20 minutes by car. World famous Silverstone Racing Circuit is also a 20-minute drive away. Hotel Rooms: 31, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns.

We had a small room but the staff had no problem in changing us to a bigger room. the bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast service was very good. there was great character in the Cock.enjoyed learning the history. the room was either extremely hot or cold. other than that there was nothing.

Traditional accommodation, good value food. Friendly staff. Liked the non corporate feel. Lots of parking, shops and restaurants on doorstep. Staff had a personality and seemed on the whole to enjoy their jobs which makes for a nicer environment. We stayed on a Sunday so good value. Room was small but fine for one night. Breakfast times good too - did not have to get up at crack of dawn. Would def come back if needed to stay in the area again. Could possible do with a bit of a refurb in places.

The room was nice We wanted to have Sunday lunch which was on special offer, to be told we have NO beef, NO pork, ONLY turkey, OK turkey it is! When the food came it was cold, after being sent back and nuked!! STILL COLD! Other guests also found food cold and most items on the menu were not available! If the bar and food matched the room it would be a great hotel. The has ruined our stay at the Cock :(

The hotel was quaint and typically English. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival, there is free off street parking at the back of the hotel. The beds were so comfortable, especially after a long drive. Breakfast was fantastic, a brilliant choice of cereals, juices, fruit and cooked breakfasts and again the staff were lovely. Its nice to stay in a place and feel so welcome. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The hallways could do with redecorating and we did have a giggle at the slightly slanting floors in the hallways, after a few drinks we felt like we were walking straight again :) I would stay here again and I would recommend it to my friends. Its right in the middle of the town and there are plenty of places to eat out in and some interesting shops to browse in during the day. The slanting floors, and the hallway decor.

A very pleasant historical hotel with good location & parking. Breakfast had a good choice of menu. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel as we attended a wedding so can't comment there. Bed was very comfortable and facilities good in the room. The room had a slightly damp smell and maybe could have done with airing before occupation. This was not helped by the window which was mildewed and very difficult to open from floor level. I guess being a ground floor room this would be difficult to alter but certainly a clean would have helped.

Location - purpose of trip was visit to Silverstone. We were not advised that the hotel bar and restaurant would be closed due to functions. I chose the hotel for it's country pub feel and as we were unable to use any of the facilities this really let our trip down. I appreciate that a separate room was set aside for table service drinks but this really isn't the same. We were advised of the functions but via a phone call half an hour after we checked in. Had I known this would be the case we would have looked elsewhere - I can only assume that the functions had been booked for some time. Overall the hotel was fine. I can't comment on the bar/restaurant/outside courtyard as from the moment we arrived they were in use! Accomodation was tired and the shower didn't work in one of the rooms - although a partial refund was given to compensate for this. The staff kindly apologised for the inconveniences experienced but I wouldn't stay at the hotel again.

Location within a small town Basic for the money. I have stayed at this hotel a number of times before and the place is looking shabby. The food is basic and lacks range, especially healthy eating.

A slight problem with the Saturday evening meal booking was swiftly dealt with by the hotel manager, but other that that a pleasant stay, so much so that I have already booked for later in the year.I would reccommend the Cock Hotel to others.

Reception area was messy, and slightly uninviting. Staff were pleasant, but not in evidence much. Overall our stay was fine for the price. Cooked breakfast was good.

Excellent location for our needs - doing research on ancestors who had lived in Potterspury in the 1700's and 1800'S. Above that we found the staff to be friendly and helpfull to our needs. Very little, I did run into a problem of my own making in that I needed to catch an early flight from Heathrow and having woke up by 5 decided to leave about 6 before breakfast. I carried my first load of cases out to the car and when I came back was surprized to find the entire hotel locked up with no way to get back in to collect the rest of our cases and my wire. Fortunately, we had a front room over the door and after a brief stand across the street my sife looked out, saw me and we arranged for her to let me back in. I do understand the deed to lock up, just was not aware it was done. I also had to leave without checking out, but did call later and it was done.
