I can honestly say the one and only good thing about staying at the Cumberland was the location. We didn't like the rooms general standard of cleanliness. Blood on the pillow cover, ripped seats, dirty woodwork and generally not up to a good standard, especially reflecting the price we paid to stay overnight. (£114) When we complained we were accussed of 'looking for imperfections and trying to blackmail the hotel'. Customer service is obviously not at the forefront of the managements policies. Leisure facilities next door at the Suncliffe were discusting. Things floating in the pool, water filthy in the jacuzzi, changing rooms dated, grubby and unhygenic.

Very very good standard of Hotel. We planned to eat in town but decided to eat in the brasserie for our two night stay. The standard of food was first class. The service was friendly and quick. The decor was excellent and could not fault the comfort of the Hotel. I would recomend this stay to anyone, fantastic value. 9 out of 10 only 1 point from perfection because the room was smaller than expected but excellent value and very clean.

From booking in we were met with friendly helpful staff a receptionist called Bayan was very sweet. The room was beautiful especially for the price we paid. We loved the art deco style of the hotel and breakfast was very enjoyable and plentiful. Would definitely come again and would recommend to family and friends. Thank you for a nice stay. Nothing !

I was very impressed with the staff's local knowledge and helpfulness. I had forgotten my medication and reception staff quickly and clearly explained that there was a local surgery who dealt with urgent medical needs of guests at the Cumberland. I was given contact details and a map detailing exactly how to get there. Within an hour I had managed to get an emergency supply of my medication. The staff were very polite and keen to help with any queries I had during my stay. They should be commended. My daughter and I also loved the stylish interior of the hotel. Beautifully designed and comfortable furniture. The food was fantastic! We will definately be visiting the Cumberland Hotel again.

the lounge and pool side facilities I stayed in room 122 and this was small and cramped and isn't really designed for two people. The room overlooked the roof; there was constant noise from what I think was a generator and also continuous smell of food cooking - one morning there was a windowclearner outside on the roof at about 0800 - too early! The room was very hot and claustrophic. There was little or nothing by the way of the usual provisions one would expect in most hotels, eg no boxes of tissues, no shower caps, etc. Although I have ticked that I would recommend the hotel, I would also explain to anyone thinking of booking the points mentioned above.

I stayed one night in a single room after a weekend trip. I booked because it was a good cost b&b, and the hotel had reasonable reviews. For the money I paid I really wasn't expecting too much but I was very pleasantly surprised. Reception and public areas have been renovated in "Art Deco Glitz" style and look good. The room was small but clean and well maintained. I found the staff were all excellent, courteous, helpful, polite and willing (which must be a credit to the management, hr or training), because this theme ran through the reception staff, to bar, restaurant and housekeeping staff throughout the hotel. Dinner and breakfast services were great but food quality average. Car park is small but I got a space. For the less mobile the hotel is on East Cliff and it's a steep walk back up from town or the beach, but for a short stay there's no need to leave the hotel. The outside pool and patio area looked pleasant for when the weather is good.

I love staying at this hotel. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and courteous at the same time. As a regular customer, they always give me a great room. The Art Deco design is delightful, while each room has an individual character. It is always impeccably clean and comfortable. The hot and cold buffet breakfast is a great start to the day. The location on the East Cliff top is perfect, with a view of both piers, fantastic sunrises and the moon's reflection over the sea. It is a near as possible to a home away from home, and yet the booking.com prices are very reasonable.

The front of desk staff were very attentive and helpful. I ordered room service and the first order to arrive was incorrect and I when I told the waiter he promptly took the tray and shortly after it was returned - correct order and piping hot....excellent, very tasty too and cooked well (swordfish burger with fries & salad). Breakfast was good, although not huge variety of cold selection and fruit. Wonderful location, good access for the beach and beach road. Pool and outside area looked fab in the evening sun and had I a) been with my partner /friends and b) not been pregnant I would of headed poolside for a pre dinner cocktail or two and soaked up the lovely ambiance and chilled evening music. The room (a single) was tiny, but i only paid £39 for the night (B&B), the walls between rooms are clearly thin as I could hear next doors TV on until late, annoying as the head of my bed was positioned against the adjoining wall and the wall where the TV was hung. However, the room was clean and modern and there was very limited early morning noise from the car park and main road (my window was open). Can't really complain about the size of room as you get what you pay for .

Pleasant looking large hotel (part of adjacent chain of 3) fitted out in an Art Deco style of the 1930'S. Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot would not feel out of place in the public rooms! Staff display an obvious pride in their work and show attention to detail. Very friendly. Relaxing lounge, restaurant and bar/brassiere. Food cooked and presented to a very good standard. Enjoyed my buffet breakfast. Booked a single room which turned out to be a small double (room 303 on 3rd floor). Able to use facilities in the other 2 hotels (indoor swim pool and sauna etc). Public rooms in Cumberland operated and maintained at a high standard. Hotel let down by poor quality of bedroom. Hotel let down by poor quality of bedroom. No air conditioning and a bit warm over the hot Easter break (2011). Room furniture and carpet looking a bit shabby and tired. Front of drawer unit broken. Electrical safety (pat testing) stickers on hairdryer and kettle show annual safety testing to be overdue (last done in 2009). a light switch screwed to side of wardrobe had sharp points of screws protruding into wardrobe hanging space on the inside (so could easily snag on your clothes) along with lengths of wire cabling and an exposed earth wire. Creaking wooden floorboards (to be expected in a hotel of this age). Could hear tv through the wall from next bedroom at night. Overall room and en-suite was clean (except for carpet which I really didn’t want to walk on in bare feet). Indoor swim pool in adjacent hotel closed too early at 9pm. Outdoor pool and sun deck area at Cumberland was out of bounds at 8pm. Hotel car park at rear had overflowing rubbish bins and mounds of rubbish. My booking was a cheap last minute internet deal for just 2 nights. For a longer more expensive holiday I would not have been very happy about the standard of bedroom accommodation. Hmm... Was voted best large hotel in Bournemouth (2009)... Understandable for the public rooms but they obviously they didn't check out my bedroom.

We enjoyed swimming in the swimming pool. The public areas were nicely decorated and very comfortable. Having a tv in the room was good, as was having tea and coffee making facilities. The sea view and balcony were great. The only thing we didn't like was there was no water available to drink in the room and we all woke up really early all dehydrated. However, the porter/ receptionist did get us a glass of water to take up to our room. It was very hot in the room. I would have liked information on the bookings website on how to book a meal for the first night. I expected to be able to do this when booking the room, but there was no option, so when we arrived at the hotel at 6 pm we didn't know if we would be able to book or not.

We went for few days as part of our 5th anniversary. They gave us a free drink as an anniversary gift which was nice and the staff were lovely. The hotel was very nice, modern and trendy. Still had Christmas decorations up which was a shame but hey ho! The rooms were nice. We had a problem with first room as door lock wouldn't work. They were quick to try rectify problem, but lock couldn't be fixed easily so we were moved to room next door which was nicer still with four poster bed. Blessing in disguise! Yes we enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

A great location with seaside views. Ten mins walk to town along prom. Friendly staff. Excellent food choice in evening with two venues and also the choice of the two neighbouring hotels for food and swimming. Good value and high quality rooms. Breakfast @ £10 plus too much. Should be a lighter and cheaper option around £5 a person.

We've stayed at the Cumberland before and knew the hotel was good value for money, good location, good service and somewhere you can relax and enjoy the surroundings. The car parks were very busy and we had to park on the road which we had to pay for in the day, think the hotel should hold some permits if this happens, not had to do this before so they probably would not have to do this many times. If they cannot do this perhaps state in the hotel details parking is not always available.

Loved the decor very clean and comfortable room breakfast very good It was our 30th anniversary and on booking we asked if there was entertainment over the weekend. We were told yes - we could use the suncliffe next door. We had picked two hotels and being as we were told there was entertainment in this hotel we booked it. When we arrived on the Fri we asked about the entertainment and was told there were singers on in one room which cost £7.95 each and the main room had a private party. We went round to the Suncliffe and found that we could not go in there as the private function had taken over the whole hotel so we could not even go in for a drink! We love dancing especially rock n roll and could not get one dance, we just had to sit tapping our feet to the music in the lounge as the doors were left wide open - so frustrating! This was the only fault with the hotel apart from the price of drinks. The location was lovely and would recommend it to friends but would warn them that entertainment was non - existant
