Nothing, it was awful. The front of house staff were miserable and not at all welcoming. The bathroom was filthy, with hair all over the place, there was mould on the walls and there was even some rodent droppings on the floor. The bedroom had mould and rotting wallpaper, the window didn't close properly which meant you could hear every car on the main road. There were cobwebs everywhere, a bed on wheels which brings attention to the gatherings of dust on the floor area by the bed. Also upon arrival all we got was a letter on the table apologising for the state of the room but no offer of compensation or any efforts made to improve the stay. The fact that the hotel knew there would be problems and failed to mention it on a website or via and email I think is disgusting but the fact that they couldn't even make sure the room was clean and pleasant on our arrival is just beyond a joke.

Breakfast was good value Decor was dated, dripping shower, stained carpets, badly in need of refurbishment, bath, shower, paintwork, peeling walllpaper etc etc etc. First receptionist was rude and ignorant,(i think it was the end of shift as she could not be bothered with us) lady that was taking over from her was very friendly, very knowledgeable about the area and helpful. Hotel is in good location, shame about the decor and certain members of staff, would not return to this hotel even if it were free.

Location and price. Currently undergoing refurbishment, so no cooked breakfast as previously booked on line. Disappointed. However a simple continental breakfast was provided. Future customers should be reminded on line at the time of booking.

My friend and I stayed at your hotel for school reunion, the only good thing about it was the price and the staff. It was only some were to get ready and sleep. It is also close to city center Unlucky for the Dean hotel myself and my friend are housekeepers for 4 star hotels in chester and wimslow. We could not get a room in my Chester hotel we were full or the chain that she works for. This is why we stayed at the Dean. As soon as the key went into the door we new things were going to be bad. The door , we had get our shoulder to it to get in, the bathroom mirror had not been cleaned,HAIRS in the bath, no shower curtian which let water all over floor when had shower,THE bedroom, no net curtian, no mattrass protecter on the beds,The carpet was very dirty , the radio didn nt work only as alarm. There was a plastic bag behind trouser press, rubbish under the bed the kettle needed descaleing.the housekeeper and maids need training on how to clean a room and check a room these are standed thing s for a 2 star or any star hotel or bed and breckfast .the hotel dose need a lot of money spent on it but that should not affect the cleaness of the hotel, infact staff should take a little more pride in its upkeep. If its clean but a little shabby guest will come back . I have worked in 4 hotels in chester as such as the dean before having refurbishment S. we took pride in what did always guests alway s came back so I know it can be achieved.

Breakfast was ok but this place is very drab, old, looks dirty and completely void of style. Good for motorway & parking. There's plenty of nearby hotels on Hoole Road. A price of £20 pppn + £5 for breakfast would seem fair

The staff were lovely and very helpful The rooms are dirty and are in need of a good deep clean. The decor of the hotel is a little outdated but it wouldn't matter so much if it was clean.

The hotel staff were friendly and good location Hotel was not very clean, the bath tap kept falling off, the carpets were stained, the shower curtain was mouldy. There was 2 dead pigeons in the garden area. I would not reccomend the hotel to anyone, was a shame as the staff were nice.

Reception greeting on arrival friendly, helpful and timely. Room clean though housekeeping had overlooked blown lightbulb and missing ceiling light diffuser plus damaged bathroom door. Raised issues with reception on checkout. Dining area for breakfast excellent and an area hotel staff prided itself upon. See above comments

The location and the breakfast were the only good things. It was very disappointing and the pictures on the website are very misleading! It was dirty, chairs in reception were filthy. Carpets were badly stained throughout, Curtains in the room had mould on them and the bath panel was warped and peeling. The wardrobes/ drawers were very musty and must have been there since the 70s - cheap melamine that was chipped and marked. Free wi-fi didn't work - when I enquired at about 7pm they said try in a few hours it might be back then. The soundproofing between rooms was non-existent (we were in one of the 'lodges' outside - I had to turn my tv up to drown out what was a normal level of conversation in the room next door. So my tv probably annoyed them but I didn't want to hear about Beryl's bunions! I would not stay here again even if it was half the price. It has the potential to be great but it needs completely gutting.

Possibly the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. Dirty, cold and could hear domestic violence in the room above and had to call the police. They could not be evicted, so we had to move room as did not want to listen to that all night. Next room was even worse. Plaster dust in the breakfast room, they did not even try to clean it away or cover it up! Possibly the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. Very good price for location The hotel was in such poor repair and so unclean we did not even take our prepaid breakfast, as we thought such a poor attention to basic maintenance and cleaning would not bode well for basic hygiene
