“A lovely quaint old Inn. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. The food is excellent and staff very helpful. An excellent base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors, or the coast.”

The Duke of Wellington is an ivy-clad traditional eighteenth century inn located in Danby, near Whitby. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring the Moors, Whitby and the coast. Built in 1732, the Inn was used as a recruiting post during the Napoleonic Wars. An iron plaque of the Duke of Wellington was recently uncovered on the outside of the building and has been mounted on the fireplace in the bar. Restoration and refurbishment has improved the facilities while maintaining the character and charm of this traditional country inn. Hotel Rooms: 9

A welcoming and relaxing Inn; our room at the Duke of Wellington had stunning views across the village green towards the beautiful moorland hills. The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated with all the facilities you would expect from a top rated accomodation. Breakfast and evening menus offered a good choice and were prepared to a high standard. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. A good base to exp;lore the surrounding countryside and coast, I would highly recommend The Duke of Wellington. During our stay we met two other couples who had stayed at the Inn on several other occasions and we will certainly be returning.

The Inn feels like a real inn. We felt immediately welcome and relaxed. The arrangement of the rooms with en suites and door directly to the out side felt like we had our own holiday cottage. The breakfast included in the very reasonable price was outstanding in quantity, quality and service. The building is beautiful and well maintained inside and out. Our room looked like it had just been refurbished. Furniture is comfortable, stylish and timeless. Yet you know you are staying in a genuinely old building. We loved it.

The staff are friendly, the pub is comfortable and clean and the food is delicious. The location is isolated and very pretty. The menu doesn't appear to have changed over the 4 or so years we have been visiting. Our room was a bit disappointing this time, quite small and not as nice to look at as the others we've been in.

A lovely quaint old Inn. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. The food is excellent and staff very helpful. An excellent base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors, or the coast. We did alot of walking with plenty to choose from. A added bonus for me was that I was able to take my dog, and she enjoyed her stay also!!

We loved the clean room and bathroom. The fact that you could eat an evening meal in the relaxed bar area was a plus & the food was very good. Staff were attentive and friendly and the location was lush. Sheep wondering around grazing on the green outside was wicked. Two things. For some reason there were no chicken dishes on the evening food menu? Tricky for my wife who doesn't like red meat and only tends to eat salmon. Also, & this is really picky, watch out if you're tall!! It stands to reason that in an old pub you have to expect the celings to be low, but in the upstairs accomodation areas the celings are L.O.W. If you've a tendency to bang your head, wear a crash helmet!!

The hotel was friendly and exceptionally clean. We had a key to the rear entrance so could come and go at anytime. The meals were excellent and the evening meals were varied and reasonably priced. Towels were changed daily and the room was cleaned to a high standard. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Duke of Wellington. Would have been better if they had their own carpark but there was plenty of off road parking.

friendliness of the staff, food, the room, though the bed could have been bigger and loved the small touches like shampoo . also the fact that knowing my husband was a smoker he gave us a room with a door that led to a pleasant area outside. though not a lot of choice with the menu , what was on was very nice, loved the breakfast.

This is a really nice, pleasant, comfortable country hotel. It's located in the middle of the countryside, sheep were grazing on the village green opposite my room when I looked out in the morning. It's in a quiet location, ideal for any country activity. The staff were really helpful and pleasant, the breakfast was great and the coffee was also very pleasant which makes a change for a lot of hotels these days. The bathroom in my room was perhaps a little small but this is nit picking really - it was spotlessly clean and the shower was brilliant.

Friendly staff, beautiful part of Yorkshire and close enough to visit Whitby etc. Quiet location. Mobile signal strength not suprisingly poor given the rural location but that was only a minor point.

It is in a lovely quiet village where the sheep are roaming around the main street and it is a very relaxing atmosphere. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the food was good , reasonably priced and service was first class.Although booked a single was given a double bed. No WiFi and very patchy mobile reception.

The countryside around the area was breathtaking, well worth the trip just for that alone. Easy access to the coast, with plenty to see on the way. The food was excellent, and real ale for the discerning palete. The staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely return again next year! The only real complaint is there is no car park as such, although there are parking facilities very close to the hotel.

We were made very welcome on arrival by the landlord and shown to our room personally. The room was kept very clean at all times during our visit. The bar staff were very helpfull. Food served hot and plentyful, in fact sometimes to much, a good selection of wines. I had requested a certain wine which was not on the menue and management sent out for it, We were most impressed over all at the Duke of Wellington Limited parking and the shower room was a bit on the small side
