Location was lovely and the room was clean and tidy. The barman in the evening was a credit to the place and was much more welcoming and friendly than the owner.
The windows didn't shut properly which on the coldest night so far this year made for a disapointing nights sleep. The owner did not make you feel very welcome and everything seemed to be an inconveninec for him. Although the rooms were tastefully decorated this theme did not run throughout the hotel as the bar and dinning room was very datedated and in need of some tlc.
Stunning location only 30 minutes from different places to go. Lovley small quiet village with friendly locals. Fantastic room all mod cons.
Matteres was a little hard.
wireless internet slow
Accommodation, real ales. Idyllic location in traditional village.
Would highly recommend
I enjoyed my stay at the Duke. My only regret was that I left too early in the morning (for me) to want the excellent full breakfast on the second morning. It was available though!
I absolutely loved the duke of Wellington in Danby. Excellent food and cannot speak more highly of the staff. Highly recommend and already have to friends. Hope to be staying there again in the near future.
The room, the staff, the beer, the location and ,of course, Grants food. I will be back!!!

Location was fantastic for us. You can't get closer to the moors. It is also close to Whitby and other great towns to visit. The room was large and comfortable and the English breakfast was excellent.
The setting, the comfort and cleanliness of the room the excellent service from staff.
hard to get mobile reception
We liked being in a beautiful remote part of the Yorkshire Moors . The staff were very welcoming , polite and accommodating . The food good value for the money .
There was not really anything not to like but on our return will request a room with a view although this would not stop us from returning .
very clean friendly staff great value Did not get to try the food so cannot comment.
Cosy, immaculately clean room. Good breakfast. Excellent value for money.
Bed on the firm side. No view
Location was good. Good feel about the place. Friendly staff and locals. Good breakfast. Dan

Conveniently located, clean and full of character
Loved location. A real getaway from hustle and bustle but still close enough to whitby for day trip. Food was excellent as was the beautiful spotless room. Will definately be back for another short break.
The room was much better than expected (desperately booked at last minute, so pleasant surprise!). Staff brilliant, beer and evening food very good. Breakfast absolutely brilliant! I will recommend and also revisit with family next time. 10/10
Everything not one complaint definitely recommend and would certainly book again if passing that way

Friendly staff, great food
Wifi was intermittent at best
Traditional, authentic old inn in beautiful area, lovely helpful staff, great attention to detail, even the marmalade and jam were delicious; no piped music or any music, nor public TV or gaming machines so wonderfully peaceful, calm and relaxed; staff, regulars and visitors able to talk and listen, everyone friendly; loved the sloping floors, low ceilings and tasteful décor; food excellent, traditional home cooking, fresh, quality ingredients; very dog friendly in bar areas, two bedrooms accept dogs so need to check if these are available when booking if you want to guarantee your dog/s can share your room; loved my two night stay and intend to return - local railway from nearby Danby station into Whitby, along the Esk Valley was a delightful bonus
liked everything, no complaints
Nice place in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the bar is really nice with a selection of local ales and good home cooked good. We really enjoyed our stay.
