V. close to Haymarket Station
The bathroom was exceptionally well appointed. Both bedroom & bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The manager is extremely helpful. Breakfast is excellent with a wide range of choice. Very good value for money.
The location is perfect, 15 minutes walk from the Castle. The reception lady is very nice, the reception man is eastern style, but nice.
Wi-fi not working on the last floor. A bit old fashioned decoration. A lot of noise from other rooms.
The room was great, looked amazing and was very clean. The location of the hotel was about 10 minutes from the very edge of the main shopping street. Breakfast was a nice full English. Nice shower and pretty big TV.
Very impolite and abrupt management, not rude but certainly not friendly. No information on the best way to travel (Edinburgh HATES cars) or park. VERY firm bed and pillows. Room was at the very top of the hotel, 6 flights of stairs I think.
Quality of fittings in the bathroom first rate - also towels pure white, thick and fluffy.
No hot water in shower or wash-hand basin 6pm or following morning around 8am. Huge sash-window was open resting on hinge but was far too heavy to shift myself - noise of traffic and people in street kept me awake most of the night.
Fabulous room we were upgraded at no extra cost and the room was perfect. Quiet at night for good night sleep. Great location of the hotel. Close to all transport amenities and great for a nice stroll.
Location was only a 10 minute walk from princes street. Good restaurants nearby. Very clean and warm.
Proximity to city centre Walk to cafes and pubs Prompt service and variety of breakfast
Hot water in shower was difficult to regulate
The decorations was beautiful, really clean and with all the furniture we were expecting.
We like it a lot. Nothing wrong
The room was spacious and good shower room. Breakfast fine and plentiful. The situation suited us well as we had gone to Edinburgh to go to a rugby match at Murryfield. Situation suited us for both Murryfield and easy access to the City Centre
Not much. Was a little strange to have to go to next door for breakfast but really no problem as weather was fine.
The room we were given was big and beautifully furnished. It had high ceilings with large decorative cornices. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is very easily accessible by public transport being close to Hawthorne Railway Station, bus and tram stops. The hotel owner was pleasant and efficient.
The only thing we didn't like related to a very slight smell we noticed when we first used the bathroom. Not sure why it was there as everything was clean and well presented.
A very comfortable double room in excellent condition, large and roomy and quiet despite being at the front of the hotel. Good breakfast served efficiently by the welcoming & helpful staff.
The room was comfortable very clean. The breakfast was exceptional and set us up for the rest of the day.
The first visit on arrival is next door to that shown on the website and was a disappointment, luckily relieved when we were taken next door.
The hotel was centrally located which made access to Edinburgh's main sites and centres easy to access if you were travelling in from the airport. Rooms were clean, spacious and had good usual facilities - hairdryer, kettle, tea, coffee etc. Also a good-sized wardrobe that took suitcases. The hotelier was also friendly and helpful on arrival - once you understand his (non-Scottish) accent.
The parking ticket at the beginning! The internet site advertises parking, so we thought (mistakenly) that a parking permit would be issued or that there are arrangements for parking. Be warned - the parking attendant swoops without warning! It is a prime site for unsuspecting travellers who have selected one of the hotels that surround the area - not just the Lairg. I didn't see any mention in other reviews, so warning everyone now - don't park without putting some money in the meter!! Restrictions also mean finding an alternative parking place after 4 hours. The bed we had in Room 27 was a bit hard - no give in it at all. Maybe good if you have a weakness there and need extra hard support.
We had the first floor room at 9 Coates gardens... It was HUGE and so beautiful! Fireplace, dressing table, 4 poster bed, sitting area.
It is a bit of a walk to the main drag.
comfortable although small.
Ensuite was tight, the sink almost on your lap.
Lovely hotel in a very central location, clean, friendly staff and breakfast was awesome. I would definitely stay here again.
the voice isolation is fantastic, i lived in the top level of the building and it is great view and very quiet, the room is comfortable and very clean. the bed is comfortable and big. with tesco only 10 meters away as well restaurants and bus stations within 2 minutes walk. the stuff is handsome and very friendly. my boyfriend and i like the hotel very much. it is totally worth our 65 pounds. i will lived there again if i went to edinburg again.
the only one thing that bothers me is the shower, the water is a little bit small.
having to outside to gain access to the breakfast room
Staff were particularly helpful arranging taxis etc. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very good.
Had booked a single room but due to confusion they gave me a family room. Was asked to use the single bed which meant I couldn't see tv. Not the end of the earth just mildly annoying.
Proximity to city centre
No parking available. The closest available parking spot was a 20 minute walk away
Over a 2 week tour of Scotland, the Lairg Hotel was the last evening stop. A wonderful old hotel, beautifully decorated in a great location of Edinburgh. The rooms are fabulous. We had a large room with four poster bed overlooking the quaint homes and businesses on the street out front. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast is served in an old parlor type room was very satisfying.
If you are placed in the downstairs room, there will be noise and foot traffic that you will hear. Parking is a problem. All onsite is only for 4 hrs, and if you don't refill the meter, THEY WILL TOW YOU!! Nearby parking lots are expensive and also 20 min walk away.
room was large, comfy staff was very helpful with info about bus, train included breakfast was wonderful - good continental selection & also order cooked breakfast. great start to each day. had exactly what we needed for our stay
The location was handy and surprisingly very quiet. The room was lovely and the shower was amazing. Very good value for money and I would recommend a stay there.
The bed was a bit firm.
