The Empress HotelCentral Promenade, IM2 4RA Douglas (Show map) Very good, Score from 283 reviews“I liked the brightness of the foyer with the bar and rest areas on both sides, giving the hotel a relaxed but still formal atmosphere. The room I stayed in was perfect for a one night business stay, couldn't ask for more, and the price included breakfast. Good value for money.”
Ian,
Runcorn

Staff very helpful ,friendly & accommodating ,went the extra mile for us without question. Room clean ,warm with everything we needed (best ginger biscuit I have eaten) .Breakfast more than ample ,well cooked well laid out and a very good start to the day.All in all the hotel made this a very pleasurable stay under the circumstances (funeral) and I will head for the Empress on any further visits to the Isle of Man .Thank you. There was nothing to dislike about the hotel ,the staff ,the food ,the atmosphere, the location ,the room, could not have asked for more.

Very clean and comfortable, on the web site it states 3* however I found this to be more like a 4*/5* hotel, staff very friendly and helpful at all times, whilst I did not have an evening meal in the hotel I will say the breakfast was excellent No complaints in fact quite the opposite

Hotel lovely and clean, good location as reasonably central. Swimming pool and spa pool needs cleaning, small and dingy. Needed to ask Reception to turn on the steam room but they didn't tell us that so we were changed and wet before we read the sign on the steam room door.....Overall definitely not a place to go if you want swimming and spa facilities.

We liked the hotel very much. For me, because of its location and style, it had the feel of a grand hotel on the promenade des Anglais in the days when Nice was less busy. Having said that, it was not at all old fashioned. The grand piano in the bar/lounge area added to the ambiance and the conservatory adjacent to this area was attractive; just right for a quiet chat or to relax with a book. The sea view room was comfortable and spacious with nothing to dislike, even the corridors were pleasant. All the staff were curteous and very professionnel. The meals were very good with plenty of choice. We didn't use the swimming pool downstairs but liked what we saw. Theoverall experience was excellent.

Reasonable price , reasonable standard , convenient location , sea view , not too crowded . Well equiped gym . Noise from adjoining rooms , I'm not complaining about noisy customers but poor sound insulation of bedrooms . Staff whos first language isn't English struggle to understand scrambled egg or beans on toast means it all comes together , not a plate of toast followed by a plate of scrambled egg or baked beans . Swimming pool is a token gesture , too small to really swim in .

Friendly staff. Draught Grolsh is horrendous. The a la carte menu is somewhat sparse and the buffet, although good in quantity / quality, was somewhat dry - due probably to it being out of season - so few guests - or non residents.

on arrival we wanted to leave our bag prior to checking in (we were early and the room not ready) the check in staff said don't just leave your bag i will upgrade you to a room that is ready with no extra charge. The upgrade room had a sea view and was modern, clean, comfortable and warm. Staff very friendly and attentive making our one night stay very pleasurable. The pool and jacussi area was clean and fresh. Changing areas for the pool were very cold and not nice to use because of this. I had to go back up to my room wrapped in my towel and coat to get under the shower to warm up.

.We came to The Empress for a three night break. The location was very good, roadside parking was good too. We were made to feel very welcome from entering the hotel on arrival to when we left. The room was very clean and warm and comfortable. We used the pool, jacuzzi, gym and steam room which we found good and relaxing after a day out exploring the island. Breakfast was first rate with a good selection. All in all this hotel was a perfect choice for our short break.

It was very comfortable with a pleasant ambience. My room was well appointed. The food was good. I thought that the piano in the piano bar was too loud. Although I appreciate and enjoy having some background music I felt that it was a bit intrusive.

“Englewood Lodgeis an exceptional B&B - worth more than its 5 star rating. Spacious, beautifully furnished bedroom, comfy bed, large ensuite with bath and shower cubicle, luxurious toileteries, wonderful view of Douglas Bay. Amazing lounge facilities with large TV, pool table, coffee machine and fridge and a sun lounge with views over the bay. Margaret, your host, is amazing. Apart from providing the 5 star breakfast, with lots of choice, she is willing to help with information about the island and anything to make your stay enjoyable. She does a fantastic evening meal on request (don't miss the Manx Queenies !) This is the place to stay on the Isle of Man - you won't find better.” Anthony, Doncaster |
