Even though it´s a very beautiful and charming hotel, and a good location, we didn´t like much it... 1- It´s unacceptable that a hotel nowadays, specially a "Mercure" one, charges the guests for using the internet. It is 4 pounds an hour! Besides, my room (15), was outside the wi-fi zone, so I just had to sit by the stairs next to the reception, the only place it worked. 2- There was a towel with a huge black mold spot. 3- I informed that I was going with my 2 years old son. But they put me in a room that we had to walk a long corridor after taking the elevator and going down 2 stairs. It was such a trouble with the stroller. 4- In the morning, there was no hot water to take a shower.

The location and there was plenty hot water The hotel pictures gave the impression of a modern, classy hotel but in reality it is tired, cosy ( a little hot maybe) and more like a bus tours hotel than the smart business hotel it appeared. You have to pay for wifi!!??

Nice hotel Can have a better looking carpet perhaps. It's old looking. Didn't like the revolving door. People can get stuck in between. You need to replace with automatic sliding doors.

We only liked the staff and room. The whole trip was a disgrace as the hotel was closing for renovation and we were surrounded by workmen removing furniture, bedding, not able to get afternoon tea or any service other than basic. A staff party was given the night of our stay and it was rowdy. We were hovered over at breakfast as the poor waiter had been told to get our dishes and us moved on as quickly as possible so the workmen could take our table and chairs. Total disaster. Staff were terribly embarrassed by the whole thing and we should never have been booked in. I booked in September 2010 or so, they knew in November the hotel was closing, and did not advise so we could change hotel or location,. It was underhand and totally bad practice. The Manager gave us a discount after I complained at being swamped by workmen and the elevator was full of furniture so we couldn't get our luggage in or out. The hotel is not cheap and I should have been refunded my whole darned stay!

As a couple with a 12 & 5 year old to find a spacious room that accomadated all of us comfortably and still giving us some privacy was very welcome indeed. The bathroom was also a very good size with a super hot shower. The room was lovely and warm too (we were there in January).the location is excellent for the Roman Baths and shopping etc, being only a few minutes walk.

Prime location, spacious rooms and comfortable bed. At around 17 GBP, the buffet breakfast is a bit overpriced.

The staff are absolutely brilliant. Special mention goes to Nicky (if I have got that name right), the restaurant manager. Although my party (extended family) were not 'singletons', there were several 'singletons' at dinner and breakfast. She was wonderful with them, spending time and effort to make them feel at home, and it was all genuine (she was not doing it 'because it was in her job description'). Heather, a waitress, was charming; quietly efficient and just perfect for this particular hotel and its clientele. If the decor is to be changed (there was rumour that this was to be done in 2012), the staff should never, ever be changed; they are the hotel's usp! For diners who like 'plain, English' food (eg fish pie), the food was absolutely excellent. The bread (which seemed homemade) was another winner, as was the breakfast. Creaky floorboards! This meant that those in the room above could be heard as they walked about, which made the room very noisy at peak times (getting ready for breakfast, prior to going out to dinner).

Location We were told as we arrived that they plan to close this hotel shortly for refurbishment - it does need it. Hotal room was a litte dusky, the in room fridge was diirty. It was cheap but oversold - I would rather spend more money elsewhere.

decor comfort of the rooms Location to city centre and attractions breakfast - the buffet wasn't stocked up as often as prefered so when going up to get food, often there wasn't any and we had to wait. It seemed that there were not enough staff on to help out. Bar - when trying to get a drink there wasn't someone stationed at the bar meaning we had to wait quite a while to get served (and that was after looking round the hotel to find someone to serve us).

Very close to the Theatre Royale and shopping. The staff were friendly and breakfast was good. A nice hotel set in an historic building. Creaking stairs and floor boards which added to its charm. It was a bit tatty in places (but I suppose its not 5*). Unable to get served at bar after 11pm when we returned from the theatre due to staffing issues. Not enough space in the room to comfortably walk around the bed. The netting and curtains in the bathroom were not clean!

Execellent hotel for location and facilities although I wouldn't expect a sizable room as space is at a premium. Also car parking was an extra unexpected charge.

Staff very good and excellent location Hotel is in need of refurbishment. The carpets we very worn and the décor shabby. Too hot in the bedrooms we could not turn down the heating. It would be nice to have a proper shower in the bathrooms, shower curtains are a big no no.

We stayed because of its location near the Theatre Royal and its car park. The welcome was very friendly and the room superb (both in itself and value for money.) The time we were allowed to store luggage after check-out was amazing. We were glad we accepted an-mail offer for a deal on breakfast as it was excellent. The last time we stayed in a Mercure hotel the breakfast was so poor the cost was taken off the bill! An excellent welcoming hotel
