“The food was excellent. The hotel is located in a village a few miles east of Durham City, so travel into the city to see the Castle and Cathedral and to shop was easy. The owners were helpful with directions for getting around the area, particularly for a trip into Durham.”

A small family-run hotel with after dinner entertainment provided by the host. It is 5 miles east of Durham city, on the B1283 road at Haswell Plough. John and Dorcas Milner have been the owners of The Gables Hotel for the past 23 years and have lived in the village of Haswell Plough for the past 38 years. The Gables is a small family-run hotel which has a very good reputation for its fine English cuisine. It has been recommended by the AA and Les Routiers. The restaurant is small and cozy. the welcoming reception, friendly atmosphere from the staff and local people. The food was first class, the accommodation was first class. The hotel has easy access to the A19.

Pleasent clientel, humorous company atmosphere of local village pub staff very obliging nice food, good beer, The floor boards were very creakey, and the plumbing was rather noisey, but after the first couple of nights you got used to it

The heating went off at 10.00 pm and the room was cold but we were given a blow heater which did the job in fareness they where not expecting us and they did there utmost to assist in anyway they could I would defiantly stop there again the meal was lush

The breakfast was excellent. The room could do with a refurbishment, especially the beds.As it was a front bedroom there was a lot of road noise and noise from downstairs bar/music although it finished at 11.30 p.m.
