Owner Comfort Friendliness Locals Breakfast
Location No toast option with breakfast
The owners were very friendly and helpful. Tasty breakfast. If you are looking to buy a pub, snap it up.
Bedroom facing road so was noisy. Shower didn't work but bath did.
The host, John, was a wonderful character full of old stories and Dorcas, his wife was a very good cook and nice person. The hotel is located a few miles from Durham so unless you have a car or re willing to pay for a taxi or take public transportation, it isn't a viable location. Worth the trip though! The room was lovely overlooking a field of sheep and cows ; the bathroom was huge, but be sure John shows you how the shower works..it is different. The pub is a hangout for the locals and they were very welcoming and lots of fun. All in all a wonderful couple of days; and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous....rolling hills and also close to the ocean.
The only negative is that we didn't get to stay longer!
I was delighted to find the Gables as everything in Durham was booked solid and I had to be at my daughter's graduation. As a result my expectations were low and was very pleasantly surprised. Thewelcome was friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Friendly environment, good food, pleasant ambience, made to feel welcome.
There were no negative aspects.
Good value. would recommend.
The proprietor was a wonderful warm person who was a pleasure to meet I loved it
Nice sheets and clean room. Pleasant owner. Reasonably priced.
The place is in desperate need of renovation and is a bit 'tired' and the rooms are a bit neglected. The room was missing a few things like the TV controller, milk for tea and the information pack was clearly many years out of date. The breakfast was poor (cheap saussages and bacon and no juice offered) and pre-cooked for us rather than done to order. There is nothing that a little TLC would not improve.
The bed was very comfy and the staff were friendly.
The bathroom was separate and had no lock.
The Friendly hosts and locals
A bit dated,for the price.
Very helpful landlord. Very chatty and welcoming. Very impressed that he went to the trouble of getting in some green tea for one our group.
Basic but clean comfortable and very friendly
breakfast and nice and friendly atmosphere and the ale wasn't bad either +jokes and poetry
we new when we booked it did not have on sweet bathroom but would have preferred one
Lovely owners - vey welcoming and couldn't help enough.
Friendly owners, good food, comfortable room
My room was at the front of the building overlooking the road and there was quite a bit of traffic noise as I had the windows open due to the heat.
Food good and well priced.
Accommodation very dated and room cramped but clean. Room 1 located just above bar very noisy.
