The environment is nice and the hotel has charater. Free wifi and free parking. The bad smell of the bathroom because of victorian age water pipes.

Excellent location in a very historical town with lots to see and visit. There are interesting individual shops and lots of variety of walks of varying length from the town itself. The surrounding countryside is superb and somewhat undiscovered. The quality of the food was excellent.Local produce, fresh tasty vegetables and super breakfasts were served by very helpful staff. Food could be eaten in the restaurant or the Lounge Bar. The Lounge Bar prices were less expensive. The room was very comfortable and well serviced. The water temperature of the electric shower was rather inconsistent. It did improve after we reported this problem.

The service, food and cask ales were excellent. We also liked the general ambience of the hotel and the friendliness of the village. Our only minor criticism would be the poor shower facility in our room. We are also fond of mushrooms with our full English breakfast and they were not on the menu.

The breakfast was excellent - we didn't have dinner there. The bedroom was large and reasonably well appointed and comfortable. The reception we received from the person who booked us in/ took us to our room was not welcoming and barely communicated with us. The person at breakfast was pleasant as were the cleaning staff. I suppose my view is that this hotel is a little tired and dated so I could not recommend in its present state.

The hotel was comfortable without being luxurious with good beer and food. The bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. We were a group of friends on a walking weekend and would recommend this as an excellent place to stay for a walking holiday Slightly tired decor

Comfortable and friendly - excellent breakfast - suprised we were the only people staying there. Room a good size Furnishings and decor a bit dated - and every wall seemed to have a picture, bit cluttered, - but nevertheless we were very comfortable,

A traditional country inn in a delightful village setting. A real sense of family ownership far removed from the bland, characterless group- owned pubs that litter the countryside. A warm and welcoming atmosphere in the lounge and public bar areas. Friendly, efficient staff. Excellent food and service. Easy parking. Good location.

The friendly staff and the cooked breakfast. The room was pleasant. The small shower room. The occasional unpleasant drain smells in the corridor.

Comfortable friendly hotel with good access to countryside for walking. On a busy crossroad so there was a bit of traffic noise first thing in the morning. May be better in rooms at the back of the hotel.

Not much to say here, no beans, mushrooms, hash browns on a breakfast is unheard of! No Sky Sports in the hotel or the town pubs!!! Would not stay here again. Hot water took 10 minutes to come through the shower. Room was small for a double.

Gaskell arms is a very friendly, comfortable hotel. All the facilities are exceptionally clean. The food was well presented and cooked to a high standard. Everyone was made to feel very welcome by all members of the staff, and yes I would willingly go there again. There is nothing to complain or dislike about Gaskell Arms.

The hotel was convenient for the event and had ample parking. The hotel smelt heavily of fish until reaching the upstairs landing when the very strong artificial air freshener took over. The room with integral bathroom smelled of drains but was otherwise clean and comfortable albeit a little cramped. I chose this hotel because I was combining leisure with business and it boasts wifi in all rooms - unfortunately the signal was only apparent in the bar. The cleaner knew this to be usual but the other staff said it was only the end rooms the had no signal and no one was interested further. The breakfast was adequate. The shower and hot water tap took a good 5 minutes to produce luke warm water not suitable for showering in.

We booked this hotel due to its location near Wenlock Edge where we were attending a storytelling festival. The staff were very friendly and attentive but at our request did not disturb us in our room as my husband was severely jet lagged on the Saturday after a trip to USA. The evening meal and breakfast was lovely. We stayed in the Mews accommodation (I had originally booked the Rindleford suite but we were moved to larger accommodation) which we can highly recommend. There is also a quiet relaxing garden in the hotel grounds. A lovely place to spend a weekend. I suppose we would prefer a duvet rather than sheets and blankets but the bed was comfortable and it certainly is not a complaint!

Having booked into the Hotel we were actually located in Mews 2 directly behind the hotel and adjacent to the spacious car park - which was excellent, well beyond our expectations for our holiday accommodation. Excellent food and all staff were friendly. Excellent Cask Ale - a credit to the cellar man. Highly recommended and would certainly return without hesitation.
