The hostel's location was great for a city trip. Close to public transport, restaurants, supermarkets, the British Museum and lots of parks. The staff were very helpful. We felt very safe coming and going at night. We did have a private twin room which made all the difference for me as an older traveller.Being able to have breakfast 'til 11am was great as was the free left luggage facility when arriving early or checking out with later flight. Having stayed in the Berlin Generator Hostel, which supplied towels and breakfast which included proper fruit juice, rolls, cheese and ham I was disappointed with the limited cereal, toast and sugared drinks on offer in London.

The location was excellent. The facilities were very good - the room and the wc/shower-room was very well maintained. The availability of information and handiness of facilities (wi-fi, breakfast room, coffee shop, information desk, etc) were very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very lively place all the time! We (5 women age 40/41) were on the entrance floor (night time). The noise level was totally unacceptable for the time of night. The security staff were based at the entrance of the lane way into the hostel - there should have been security at the entrance to the hostel itself to ensure the 'guests' kept the noise down for the guests who were trying to sleep. There were people banging on doors trying to get into their rooms. We didn't get much sleep on the Friday night. We made our issues known to the security staff on Saturday night - we did not have the same experience - it was a lot quieter.

Cheap hostel, good for a city break, close to all the tourist attractions and night life. Worth the prize I paid for.

Cost effective and location was fairly good with nearby access to a tube station. Reception and bar staff were great. Don't forget your key card when leaving the hostel or else the door guard will be an ass about it. My friends are a married couple, one had their key and the other did not - the door guard insisted on seeing her key card even after he looked at their id cards (which then escalated into a verbal altercation, which was very ridiculous as New Year's - midnight - was in 10 mins) The food I ordered was disgusting, but you get what you pay for. Some good restaurants are nearby though. There is no soundproofing of the walls, you could hear the hand dryers from the bathrooms and your neighbors going off all night. You have the option to buy a "new" shower towel, but it looked used. Beds, blankets and pillow look a bit rough and could use replacing.

The location is excellent, close to the city centre, to several tube lines and to a couple of railway stations. The price is relatively low. Staff smiling and friendly. &Quot;A basic youth hostel" is a severe understatement. It's very basic - and it's not clear from the internet site description. The breakfast is minimal (cornflakes and toasted bread), its description as "continental" on the web site is a bad joke. The wi-fi supposedly works in the ground floor public areas - but not always (no wi-fi in the rooms). The staff are very nice and friendly, but permanent queues at the reception make it impossible to obtain any service. Before coming, I inquired on phone whether bed linen is provided - got a positive answer - but they failed to mention that "towels" aren't included in the category of bed linen (had to buy them).

The food and drinks were cheap. There was nothing saying that the private room had "shared toilet", just notice when I arrived there and the girls showers in the 3th floor were broken. The security was excessive, they asked for your key to get inside the bar(even when you were already in the hostel), Unfortunately, a cleaning lady invade our room missing 20 minutes for the check out (I repeat, I was in the 3rd floor) , and even I saying that we were inside and naked (changing clothes ) she didn't mind to get inside our room, and didn't leave!! It was really annoying.

I liked the fact that the doorms/rooms only had a maximum of 4 people in them (2 bunk beds) because I needed somewhere to sleep as I had a temporary job in London. It was easy to book at the last minute & other hostels had much larger dooms/rooms which probably would have been a lot noisier. For backpackers traveling it would be perfect, with lots to do inside & lots of facilities. Good food, a bar/nightclub, 24hr reception. The doom/room that I was in was across from the gents toilets which had a hand dryer that was extremely noisy. You're also sharing a room with strangers but the other 3 people in mine luckily were friendly & fairly quiet late at night. But you get what you pay for, so it was perfect for somewhere cheap & central. If you are working in London then it is perhaps a bit noisy at night, but as a late booking & for the price it was ok. For backpackers traveling it would be perfect, with lots to do inside & lots of facilities.

It wasn't great condition but it is very resonalbe if u think about the cost. Very cheap n good location. I think, have to check the room conditions before costomers check in it. I've changed the room once because the room was very dirty n seems nothing organised at all.

Nothing, a horrible place to stay. Just the locality. I did not like anything. Rooms were messy, noisy, no facilities at all. Broken bathroom. One lift which takes 25light years to take you up or down and by chance there r more than 5 people in it. You are stuck forever and will definetly miss your level. Extremely noisy place, feels you r staying in a club. Will not recommend at all. If you think I am wrong, go and better experience yourself. Though staff wasnt too bad, but no facilities.

Generator is a budget backpackers in the middle of London. Location is good and very central. Cafe with wi fi and also bar located in hostel. Restaurants over the road and grocery store nearby. Rooms are pretty small and tight. Shared bathrooms were sometimes closed and had to seek another one on another floor.

Value for money accomodation, that does what it says on the tin. All the facilities a backpacker could want, in a very good location. The noise form the bar went on until well after midnight, a number of rooms are directly above the bar.

Nice localization, helpful staff, breakfast (low quality but still) included, wifi and lots of facilities for youngsters In general, the hostel has major cleaning problems. Toilets and bathrooms are a disaster. The rooms are extremely small, not too tidy (however comparing to bathrooms quite acceptable). The place is in general noisy, people nock your door at any time of nigth. And fire alarms around midnight... Creazy place.

Had a really fun atmosphere for young backpackers - lots of organised events! It also had a pub and common areas in the hostel. It was in a really good location - walk to Russell Square, St Pancras/Kings Cross and Euston. Some nice cafes and pubs nearby. The showers could be a bit difficult - curtains and no where really to hang clothes so they didn't get wet.

The hostel is big, quite confortable and really close to the underground. The bathrooms are clean and there is a large room with wifi. The lockers should be bigger or, at least, we should have the chance to pay for another lockers.

Location in central London. Close to public transport links. Our room was next to the bathroom and could hear the hand dryer all night through the wall, even though we were wearing ear plugs.

It was much better than my previous stay. I had fewer problems. Staff were much better, in particular the manager Alex, the night security and the bar man. Overall I enjoyed my stay and it is value for money in a great location. State of the room - not only occupied upon arrival but not very clean. Door didn't shut properly - glad I took a padlock and few valuables. Only one lift - not always fun queuing for this with people with huge suitcases when you have a hurt ankle and can't do 5 floors of stairs! Above all it had rooms available on 5th November when nowhere else in London seemed to have spaces!

“The staff at Crestfield were absolutely friendly and helpful. The room was small as are all London hotels that are affordable, but I didn't mind it at all. The best part of staying at the Crestfield Hotel is the location. It is a block away from the King's Cross tube stop, which is in the heart of the city. Also, the Pancras International train station is there as well, making easy to grab a train to France/Belgium and the rest of Europe. Can't beat it!” Tony, Studio City |
