Good clean room Good parking
Could not get any food due to Christmas party bookings Expensive £100/night single room no breakfast included
Location, characterful building, tea, coffee and biscuits, bath
The George Hotel is located in the heart of Wallingford, convenient to many shops and restaurants. Parking in the rear of the hotel is convenient. The hotel pub is very busy but friendly.
Breakfast service varied, prompt on some days, slow on others. Third level (second floor by European system) required many stairs, no elevator, difficult for an old person. Parking spaces in parking lot were very narrow.
Court yard for sheltered outdoor drinking. Staff were very friendly
Bedding and curtains were a little old fashioned in style but it's maybe just a matter of personal taste.
The staff. The location.
The furniture was chipped, the paintwork faded and the carpets worn through. There is no meaningful water pressure which meant the shower and lavatory really don't function as designed (electricity can fix this). The cheap, nasty bathroom bin was broken. And the room was priced as if all this would be top class.
The room was very comfortable and spacious. I was pleased to see a hairdryer, trouser press and iron. I was favourably surprised to find that although there was a public bar the room was quiet, I must admit it was away from the public outdoor area. The meals were excellent.
I took my own toiletries so was not concerned that the soap dispenser remained unfilled throughout my stay.
the beutiful and very convenient location
a bit pricey
The hotel is formed around an internal courtyard which makes it charming but rambling. There is very attractive olde worlde bar but by contrast the dining room is a bit utilitarian.
To our surprise rooms did not have a minibar (quite adequate tea/coffee/chocolate making materials however). The bathroom was original 1970 but all the plumbing worked as it should. Prices probably towards the upper limit and certainly much more than chain hotels of a similar standard and location. Whilst the street outside did not spoil our stay, the traffic is fairly horrendous and the prescence of gas sampling equipment right outside indicates problems with atmospheric pollution.
I loved the place. It was really quite and peaceful. Specially after city like London. We had great rest. Breakfast was also good even I had to pay extra. I will come back there for sure.
The bath room was poorly cleaned. The floor.
Quiet hotel very clean good size bedroom
Struggled to get into the bed. The bed was made like a hospital bed
Way too expensive - surly receptionist - noisy drinkers from the bar ....
In town location traditional building and setting Hotel character
Friendly and cooperative staff. Useful and enjoyable courtyard. Main course of meal good.
No capability to deal with hot weather in the bedrooms. Not all food to the standard expected of an hotel charging £100 in that location. Breakfast could be much better using local produce.
Breakfast served quickly, efficiently and by pleasant staff. Lovely hanging baskets, filled with flowers.
Noise from the courtyard below at night.
friendly staff, location
Great location , lovely building ...
Very overpriced , noisy because of drinkers from the bar outside the rooms, unfriendly receptionist , no breakfast included in booking , tiny TV situated too far away to watch comfortably ...
the size of the room was decent and bright. they had a cot ready for my child as requested on arrival. there was kettle, tea and coffee facilities.
there were moths in the room. the bathroom floor and the floor of the room had not been cleaned. it's over priced for a 3 star hotel.
Decent size room & bathroom ok. Convenient location for event I was attending in the town & for walking by the Thames.
Shower was quite weak maybe because I was on 3rd floor.
- Location was great
- Two noisy cleaners woke us up at 8am, shouting down the hall to each other saying things like "it's gonna take f***ing ages to clean this!" After 20 minutes I opened my door to ask them to be quiet, which they did. But morning ruined. - Shower water just trickled out. - Cigarette butt at foot of bed - Dated decor and furnishings - Not worth £120 per night.
Large spacious quiet room
A friendly comfortable hotel. a bit jaded but clean and they let us in early to change for a wedding.
It was farther from the wedding reception than we were led to believe. Breakfast was not included and for what we paid I think it should have been.
The courtyard outside was lovely and the staff were helpful. Didn't eat there so can't comment on that. Location is central so all good there.
The room was dingy with black mould in the bathroom. Shower cream was empty and shower itself was rubbish. Well overpriced at £120 for a Saturday night and that was without breakfast!!
Nice location, friendly staff.
Very tired décor, small single room, quite drab and poor value for £100 a night without breakfast. I stay in many hotels around the country and this is the only one I wouldn't feel inclined to visit a second time.
poor choice of food and the chef wants to learn to cook
Helpful and friendly Receptionist/Manager on arrival The location was good The rooms were a good size The bathroom was good The windows could open!
breakfast was too early an ending for a weekend, 08:00-9:30.
