Hotel was great with loads of history and very friendly staff felt very welcome when we walked in. Nice village with a lovely abbey opposite . Easy reach to oxford city centre. Free WiFi was good we were in the furthest room away and still able to pick it up. The room was not up to the standard I would expect from a Chapman’s hotel . Tea pot was full of old tea and bags when we arrived, after the first night the plastic cups in the bathroom were removed and not replaced, Tea making tray was not topped up, bed had seen better days, sheets did not fit well could see torn mattress underneath. Generally needs a revamp.

Old Coaching Inn. Outstanding bar which was crowded with a mix of residents and locals - a good sign. 4 different ales on tap. Food was excellent and very innovative / original - cooked local wild rabbit (complete with shot) a good example. Outstanding, freshly cooked English breakfast. Extremely friendly staff. En suite room a good size for the age of the property. Wi-fi didn't connect in our room but worked perfectly well in the bar - which was a bit of a bonus really! Lovely village with 3 inns and pubs all of which were excellent in their own way. Handy for Oxford. Good country walking. Perfect place for a short break. Bed was bit hard and some of the bedrrom furniture needed some restoration but liveable with.

It is an old, homely and very welcoming hotel. Right on the High Street and easy accessible. Excellent bar area with open fire - very welcoming. Food is excellent and staff are friendly. Breakfast is a joy. Our first choice when visiting family nearby. Our room this time was a little untidy. Key fob was Room 9, but room was actually No 1 and had been 'written over the number'. The room was a very large size and very comfy. The bathroom however did need a tidy up - with a shower that had to be hand held and a toilet that would take 15 mins to fill up after flushing it was a good job that this stay was only for one night,. We have used this hotel on other occasions and the rooms have been better before. I believe that this was just a one off and it does not put me of using the hotel again.

Nice atmosphere, very traditional British (although run by a South African!), cracking floor when walking in the corridor or the room. Nice breakfast included in the already low rate The bathroom, more specifically the washbasin with separate faucets fror cold and hot water. This is the sickness of British hotels! If you want to wash you hands or your face, you either burn or freeze yourself. It is not only inconvenient, it's dangerous, especially for children. I am amazed it is still allowed to operate hotel rooms with this feature.

Manager Liam one of most attentive & helpful I've met in a long business career. Staff friendly & helpful. Setting superb & relaxing with excellent breakfast. Menu different & well-cooked. Floor of bedroom 5 not level however (14th c) which took a little getting used to at 63 with dodgy knees & shower difficult to set. Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere where time stands still so plan to stay there again when have next rock n' roll practice in Berkshire before returning to Nottingham next day. With a substantial cooked breakfast for two included in the price acceptable value....a real find! Mike Tayler (Nottingham) Shower difficult to adjust so gave up in the end.

The George Hotel was a really comfortable, relaxing hotel. The staff were very friendly and my room was lovely. I had a room at the front of the hotel with a beautiful view of Dorchester Abbey out of my window. Breakfast was cooked nicely and, all in all, I had a really good stay there. The only thing that might annoy people is the continual ringing of the Abbey bells (might be an idea to bring earplugs).

This is a very quaint hotel offering all the charm of a traditional english guesthouse. The staff were extremely pleasant and couldn't do enough to help us during our stay. The evening meals in the restaurant were a little fancy for our tastes however the full english breakfast included within the room rate was excellent. The only negative I have is although the hotel is conveniently located opposite the abbey this has bells which chime every half an hour which was not mentioned in the information but did not spoil our stay in the least.

The George Hotel can't be faulted. It is clean, comfortable and welcoming and the food is excellent. Liam and Kim, who were running it at the time, are wonderful 'mine hosts' - we have booked again for the summer.

really nice bar. very friendly locals and staff. good beer and good food. great location in a 15th century coaching inn. the room in the stable block where i stayed was bloody awful. in dire need of some refurbishment. not even hot water in the morning. the menu is very limited and pricey.

“Top class accommodation on a real working farm. Very comfortable large room with views over the farm. Everything is done with attention to detail and a quality country feel, without hassles or intrusion. You can wander the private farm tracks down to the Thames river. Free wi-fi works well. Breakfast was fantastic especially the fresh fruit salad. If we ever come back to UK we would spend a few days here just to recharge the batteries.” Susan, Berwick |
